Chapter 23
Annabeth POV (yes, this is apparently a crossover now):
"Piperrr..." I whined, regretting all my life choices (well, not ALL, but most of them. Especially the ones that included coming with Piper today.) "Annabeth, c'mon, it'll be fun! A Halloween treat! You know it probably won't be anything except an old house with squeaky floorboards and dust." She tried to console me, but it wasn't the sound of the floorboards I was worried about.
"Piper! Haunted Houses are guaranteed hiding spots for all the spiders of the world to go and terrorize people like us!" I retorted, trying my best to get her to stop the car without crashing us. We both know that if we see a spider, she will leave it, just to see me struggle. She will laugh, and I will most definitely run outside, climb into the car, and drive away, leaving Piper to walk the miles to get to civilization. I should've brought Percy...
_MEANWHILE WITH PERCY_
Percy POV:
I should've brought Annabeth!!!! Hanging over a pit of lava with Nico, getting threatened by a Cyclops was the last thing I wanted to do this Halloween! But nooo, Aphrodite HAD to decide that I was the best person to get her compact mirror when I should've been swimming in blue candy!
Oh, there's Will, the hot boyfriend savior. Wait- who's that behind him..?
"BRO!" Jason swooped in, beheading the cyclops with his sword.
"You're my savior, Bro!" I said as he cut the rope that tied me and Nico together. "Uh, I'm here, too!" Will pointed out from below, giving a sarcastic wave. When we were on the ground, Nico reassured him. "Don't worry, Solace. You're MY savior. Besides, ignore their bromance, we have something better." They began to walk away sassily, which annoyed me, since I was supposed to be the sassy one. I snatched the compact mirror from its place on the ground, running to catch up with Jason, who was walking behind them.
Annabeth POV:
We were coming to a stop in front of what was supposed to be the most scary haunted house in the US, according to the stoll brothers, who got reunited this Halloween. It... wasn't scary at all!!! It looked clean, like free of spiders! Now, this is a Halloween I can enjoy.
"Huh, it's not scary at all." Piper noticed, opening the door. I was shaking, but not with fear. I struggled to hold back laughter as I plastered on a frightened expression. "L-look! I'm s-shaking with fear! Let's do this and then go trick or t-treating." I fake whimpered. Trick or treating was another thing I was not looking forward to, since Percy was going to be spiderman. I knew he was going to insist on doing the kiss, and I'm not kissing a spider willingly.
"Alright, fineee." Piper said, giving in. We stepped out of the car, and Piper didn't even bother locking it, since we were in the middle of nowhere. The house looked like it might've been haunted at a time, but it had a good clean up. We approached the door, and Piper peered through the windows. "C'mon, Annie, there's nothing in the-" she was cut off by a banging noise coming from upstairs.
Surprisingly, she was the one that went in first, curious to investigate the noise. We creeped up the stairs, our daggers drawn, prepared to face whatever was up there.
Upstairs, the whole floor was all one room, and in the center of that room, an old man strapped to a chair. The man had the typical old man appearance, exceptions being his quite big middle (I'm not fat-shaming, just describing what I see), and the knife wounds that littered his visible skin. Blood covered the floors, and a bloodied knife sat in the middle of a puddle.
He shook his head in disapproval. "You kids can't stay away from trouble for a minute." He scolded. "We were doing just fine before this..." I mumbled, watching his eyes trail onto our daggers. He could see them, why wasn't the mist covering them? His eyes widened in surprise, and he looked back at us, a hint of a smile tugging at his lips.
"Something tells me that you aren't regular kids. Perhaps you are the type for mischief? Carrying daggers around, that's not something normals kids would do." He pressed, and Piper picked at the dirt under her nails with the tip of her knife, bored. "Well, regular old men don't go around getting tied to chairs in the middle of nowhere either, so they?"
The old man's eyes widened, and his brow furrowed in concentration. His eyes then widened in surprise. "Anything we should know, old man?" I asked, also becoming bored. This was better than kissing spiders, though. "Hmm, interesting... Gods... Demigods? I didn't know such things existed," his comments caught me and Piper off guard, and she cut herself a bit.
"What!? No! We're just humans! Where would you even get that ridiculous assumption!?" I panicked, praying to Athena that the mist would start working. "Hmm, maybe I should tell you... Very well. So, you know elves? Yes, they're real, and I'm one of them. Most of us have special abilities, and I'm a telepath, which means-" "We know what it means!" I cut him off. He just dumped that all on us without letting us process it.
"Okay, now if you'd very kindly free me-" his eyes narrowed as the thought 'run' came into my mind. "No can do, Forkle. These girls are in our custody now, thank you for keeping them for us." A voice spoke behind us, and two hands were placed on me and Piper's shoulders. I didn't dare look behind me, because the voice was coming back into my memory.
"Annabeth Chase... What a shame you didn't join us, you'd be better with us than you are alone..." Ruy spoke, his cold voice leaving me chilled through. "Nah, I'm good, I don't join random cults." I spin around, raising my dagger, when suddenly, a flash of light surrounded me and Piper. It was a force field. "Sir- Ruy, you want to let us go, don't you?" Piper spoke, her voice sickeningly sweet.
"You want to trap yourself in a forcefield, and stay there until we're gone," Piper tried again. He obeyed without question.
The next few minutes were a blur, but the three of us were soon in the city. I iris messaged Percy, telling him I wasn't going to be back in time for trick or treating. This man now has us wrapped up in his business.
Yay!!!! I finally finished!!! Ik that the time makes no sense compared to the rest of the story, and California and NYC are far away from eachother, but you just have to pretend✨✨
I hope you enjoyed!
