Chapter 16

Sophie POV:

Ohnohnohnohnohnohnohnohnohno! It can't be true! No, it isn't, I refuse to believe it! That doesn't excuse the fact that I completely forgot about the Neverseen! First I got hospitalized, then inflicted on Keefe, then spent months at his bedside! Everything was going wrong.

Keefe was lucky enough to get out of the hospital early, and he insisted on walking me to my dorm. He told me about his roommate, and how he was a nice guy, but that only made me wish that Irena was around.

I didn't tell him what happened, so he noticed my nervous face and asked. "Well, my new adoptive sister, Irena, she got kidnapped, and I'm assuming by the Neverseen..." He paled, and then stopped walking.

The moment we had was awkward, but it consisted of him about to give me a hug, then deciding to settle for a side hug. I turned it into a full hug, cause I needed one. He smiled a bit and we continued walking.

"So," I started. We had a few more minutes until we arrived at my dorm, and the silence was unsettling. Breaking the silence was Keefe's thing. "Why did you leave the Lost Cities?" I continued. "Well, after you left, I realized my dumb brain mistake, how we'd all just let you leave. The heart of the Lost Cities. Life became so unflavorful, I left. The mood of the Lost Cities, so bleak and plain, added on to the pain I felt after losing you... It became too much."

That... Was sweet. But was it true?

I mentally scolded myself. He had no reason to lie, and I believe him. I need to learn to trust again. "Biana also realized her mistake, but the others stayed dumb. We often talked about you. If we restart here, we should bring Biana. Her personality was sucked out of her. She's so plain, now."

I wondered how my leave from the Lost Cities made such an impact, because last time I checked, I didn't really matter...

Apparently I said that aloud, cause Keefe stopped again, turned to face me, and chuckled. "Foster, Foster, when do you learn? You were the life of the Lost Cities, and if those uggos can't realize that, they are not worth your time." He said those words with such confidence, that I almost believed him. Note the 'almost' in that sentence.

After one minute of walking in silence, we finally reached my dorm. I didn't want to rush anything, but I didn't want to be alone. "Will you stay with me?" I asked quietly. He smiled, walking up to stand beside me. "Always." (A/N THG ANYONE???)

~<---------------------------------------->~

Me and Keefe had fun. We watched a movie, ate ice cream, played some Uno, and that took my mind off Irena, but as soon as we exchanged numbers and goodbyes, I was back to crying under my covers.

This never should of happened! Maybe if they'd just chosen a different Moonlark, one that could get things done... Thunder rumbled outside, and the sounds of the rain hitting the window made me a bit sleepy. Maybe I can close my eyes for a second...

My dreams were good for a change, letting me relive one of my favorite dates with Keefe.

(Idea credits to @Arudenandsokeefeotps! Thanks again!)

I blinked the light out of my eyes as I took in my surroundings. We were in a forest, pine trees covering the earth like a blanket, leaving almost no gaps except for the clearing we were standing in.

I would've enjoyed just laying down on the ground and cloud gazing through the little hole at the tops of the trees, but apparently Keefe had a different agenda. "Welcome to the Trees of Trust!" He chirped, wrapping his arm around me, preventing me from doing my earlier plans.

"Why is it called that?" I asked, curious. He pointed towards all the trees, signaling for me to look closer. I saw little leaves on the trees' barks. "Those leaves," he started, "contain lots of little secrets. It's a way we learn to trust each other and nature. We trust each other not to tell the secrets, and we trust nature to never let them fall into the wrong hands."

That was really inspiring. I wonder why the humans can't be like this, like, what about this is unappealing? "You can put one up," Keefe said, handing me a pen. I picked up a leaf. What should I write? I didn't have many secrets. Keefe didn't say that people can't read the secrets...

I decided on a small 'hi'. The tree was naturally sticky, so I just pressed the leaf onto the bark and turned back to Keefe. He smiled. "Now, it's time for the real date." His smile turned into a smirk. I followed his eyes to a trail I hadn't noticed before, inevitably littered with sticks and stones, practically begging for me to trip on them.

"Can't we just-" I started in attempt to prevent my demise, but Keefe interrupted me. "Nope! Come on, Foster! I promise it will be worth it!" He gave me puppy dog eyes, and coming from Keefe, who could resist? I bet you wouldn't be able to.

So up we went. My first trip happened two seconds in, making Keefe lunge to catch me. He muttered something under his breath that sounded like 'this is gonna be a long day' but was probably something about pranking, knowing Keefe.

After much more tripping, Keefe tried to take it to his advantage. I tripped again, but Keefe caught me in the most romantic way possible, leaning down to kiss me. He wasn't successful. The only thing he was successful in was making us fall and tumble down the trail all the way to the bottom.

He decided he should carry me after that.

Finally, 10 minutes later, he told me to close my eyes. I slowly lifted my hands over my eyes and prayed this wasn't a murder attempt. It wasn't. When he told me to open my eyes, I opened them to the most beautiful sight to possibly see.

We were standing on a cliff covered with grass, three trees, and a beautiful sunset. One tree was facing the cliff edge, and that tree had a swing.

"Go on," Keefe said, setting down our stuff, "I'll push you." I carefully walked over and sat on the seat, Keefe in tow. He pulled the swing back and pushed. It was quite an experience, feeling the wind through my hair, but what topped it off was when I leaned back, stretching my arms out. Keefe gently grabbed my head and whispered my favorite words in my ear. "I love you, Sophie Foster." And then he kissed me.

Another chapter done! This one was stalled because A. I was super lazy, and B. Check my conversations on my profile.

Anyway! If you haven't already, can you please go back to last chapter --I think-- and vote on what story I should write after this one? Also can you press the little star in the corner? It would help a lot!
