Chapter 1

3rd person Sophie:

Sophie groaned, sitting up and wiping her eyes. Nightmares were always a regular thing for her, but she thought they'd stay behind in the lost cities, along with all her Neverseen worries. But nope! It's as if she packed them in her bag.

This wasn't a normal nightmare though, it was a time when she was living one.
------------------------------------- Flashback start ------------------------------------------
"Ah, the Moonlark. A very... What's the word... Tricky capture." Gisela taunted. Sophie growled. "Hate to break it to you, but we're not staying for long." She retorted. She already stayed long enough, sitting on the cold stone floors, trying to brainstorm a way out of the cage she got thrown in... And got everyone in the Black Swan or related to Someone in the group thrown in their own separate cages. The huge room was filled with at least 150 cages, every single one filled with the family of the Black Swan member and the Black Swan member. Though, she didn't have Grady and Edaline in her cage, she was alone.

She glanced at her adoptive parents, but as soon as they felt her gaze on them, they turned away. Same with her friends. Gisela laughed. "I'd like to see you try. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to prepare for my son's Legacy, and your death." She turned away and slammed the door behind her, shouting orders to the guards.

"Good job! You achieved your goal! Getting us all killed." Stina sneered. "No, no one's getting killed. I'm gonna get us out." Stina laughed. "You really think that your gonna get hundreds of people out of a very secure Neverseen hideout? Just face it honey, project Moonlark is a failed experiment." No one sided with her, but no one defended Sophie.

Failed experiment... The words seared her conscious. Her head was pounding.. pounding, pounding, pounding. She glanced over at Keefe, the boy she liked, he turned away. She glanced at Dex, her best friend, he turned away. She glanced at Tam and Linh, the twins she helped find a home, they turned away. She glanced at Marella, the fiery girl who saved her from sitting with a bunch of drooly boys, she turned away. Wylie, Maruca, and Biana all turned away. Then she glanced at Fitz, the boy who showed her the lost cities, he turned away.

I'm alone. Those words were on auto repeat in her mind. Not even councillor Oralie denied it. Actually, she confirmed it, thinking no one could hear. "I trust we're doing well in here." Lady Gisela said, entering the room. "Your death is the top priority, so let's get on with it." Two men stalked into the room, carrying thick ropes, ready to tie her up. "And before we get into this," Lady Gisela warned, "don't try any of your fancy inflicting stuff." She removed her cloak and gestured to the chest plate resting over her torso. "We're always prepared."

The men unlocked the cage and stomped towards her. Think, Sophie, think. She tugged on her holster, another nervous habit she'd obtained over time. Then the solution came. If we can't use abilities, we'll have to do this the old way. The men came within arms length of Sophie, but before they could tie her up, she grabbed hope out of its holster, stuck it in one of the men's guts, and kicked the other you-know-where. They both fell to the ground, writhing in pain. "Impressive," Lady Gisela complimented, "good luck surviving this." She called another man into the room and he walked over to the cage that held the Redeks', opening it and yanking Marella out. She tried to burn him, but he didn't even flinch. "Lemme go!" Marella squealed. He didn't respond. All he did was keep marching over to the other side of the room. He neared the cage that the Songs' sat in. He jerked open the door, dragging Linh away from her place next to Tam. "Tam!" Linh cried, "don't let them take me!" Tam tugged on Linh's arm, tears rolling down his cheeks. "I won't." He promised, but all it took was a small tug from the guy taking her for him to lose his grasp. The cage slammed closed, Tam trying, but failing to call on shadowflux. Meanwhile, tears were streaming down Linh's cheeks so fast, it looked like she could cry a river in no time. She whimpered as the man proceeded to drag Linh and Marella away. They crossed the room, nearing Sophie's cage, soon arriving in front of Lady Gisela. They were dropped to the ground, trying multiple times, but failing to escape. "Wh-what do you w-want from us?" Marella quivered. "LET THEM GO!"  Sophie screeched, vowing to not let anyone get hurt. "Now, now, Sophie, they won't get hurt... Yet." Lady Gisela assured, though, she whispered the last part. "Their job is to... Get our Moonlark to cooperate." Gisela ordered the girls to turn around, facing Sophie. "Linh, make a bubble around Sophie." She didn't comply. "Let me remind you girls what happens if you disobey." She mimed a knife across her throat with an evil smile plastered on her face. "Now, let's try again. Linh, make a bubble around Sophie." Linh let one more tear fall from her eye before standing up and gathering all the moisture in the air, forming a giant bubble around Sophie. "Good. Marella, your turn. Make a magenta fire bubble around Linh's water bubble." Sophie shot Marella a look that seemed to say, go ahead. Marella took a deep breath and stood up. Sophie had a plan now. Marella, Linh, I have a plan. Marella, make the bubble when I give you the signal. Linh, remove yours when I give you the signal. Quickly put one on Lady Gisela and that guy, and finally, Marella, remove mine and put it on them. Sophie transmitted, waiting for their approval before counting down on her fingers. 3...2...1! They executed her plan, and in no time, Lady Gisela and the guy were unconscious on the floor. "Quick, get the cage key!" Sophie called. The girls quickly unlocked all the cages, checking on everyone all the while. Sophie pulled hope out of its holster and stabbed Lady Gisela, making sure she wasn't breathing before leading everyone out.

The Neverseen were dumb enough to leave their weapons outside the room. She handed out everyone's weapons, ordering them to protect the ones without. Her mind strayed to Keefe, the expression on his face when she stabbed his mom in the heart. No, she ordered herself. Don't think of him. Don't think of the people who hurt you more than you thought was possible. In that moment, all she was trying to do was save them all. Make up for her mistakes.

Soon, the guards were on their tails, her energy for inflicting was running out, but they were almost there. They would kill the guards after she inflicted, the ones who were stable, anyway. At least five people's minds were broken. They had to be carried by their loved ones. When mostly everyone was out, she let her photographic memory scan the place. Once everyone was out, she would go back. They found a cliff, joined hands, and jumped off, arriving at eternalia. She quietly went back and searched the place. The Neverseen were gone.

------------------------ flashback end ------------------------
Sophie was crying a river by then. Thinking of those horrible people really had an effect on her, but her stubborn heart couldn't manage to let them go. She got out of bed and lifted her mattress, revealing a secret compartment where she stored photos. Photos of them. She grabbed one of all of them, smiling and having fun.

(A/N this is not my art, so the credits go to whoever drew it.)
She wiped her tears and put it back, finally ready to start the day.
