Chapter 7

The next day, I skipped my classes to stay with Kylie. I tired my best to brush her hair to be better. She told me that she was so devastated that she just cut her hair like that. I cut it into a pixie cut to make it look better. "Thank you, J." She smiled as I cleaned the floor. I gave her a smile back.

I sat beside her on my bed. Her eyes were starting to get better that she stopped crying. "Why couldn't I see you that last week?" I started. She sighted. "I was angry about the video." She said. "Kylie, I didn't leak it. You have to believe me." I begged. "It's okay, J. I believe you. I need to find whoever did this." She nodded. I was relieved that she believed me.

We both stared at the ground. It seemed as if we didn't know each other. "I am sorry about punching you." She shrugged. "I am better now." I smiled. "Good." She looked back at the ground. I thought about telling her about the message. "We should go have dinner." She got up. "Are you sure you want to? I could just get you food here." I stood up as well. "I need the fresh air, J." She patted my shoulder.

The cafeteria was packed with people getting dinner after a long day. I looked at her as she ate her food in silence. "Hey." Zack said. We both looked up at him. "Hi, Zack Lakes." She waved at him. He sat beside me. "Nice hair." He smiled. "Oh, I needed a make over." She chuckled. "How are you?" He turned to me. "I am good". I nodded. He smiled. "You guys seeing each other, then?" She had her hands on her cheeks.

"Come on, Kylie. You know me." I shrugged. "I am trying to get there, really." Zack added. "You guys are so cute." She smiled. I was kind of glad that Kylie didn't make a big deal of me being friends with Zack.

"I am on my way there, Zack." I said as I got out of the library. It was a cold night as winter started to kick in. It was 10:00 pm. I hung up with Zack as I walked. I decided to take a short cut to Zack's sorority house. It was a dark road. My phone started to ring again. I sighted as I answered. "I said I am coming, Zack!" I whined into the phone. "You are? How wonderful!" I froze in my place. It was the same voice, I recalled it from the message.

I gulped, looking around. "Surprised to hear from me again?" The voice asked. It was a guy's voice. It ringed through my ears, sending shivers down my spine. "W-what d-do you w-want?" My voice was shaking along with my hands. I tried to steady my breath. "Keep walking." He said with a hard voice. I gulped as I started to walk again.

My legs felt weak as I tried to steady them. "Now Jane, let's play a little game. Just the two of us." He said. "I don't want to play anything with you!" I tried my best to make it sound strong. A cold hard laugh emerged through the phone, touching my inner ear. "You really wouldn't want to make me angry, right?!" He said the last word with such fury, it made my inner organs shift.

I took a deep breath. "Good girl. Now, let's play." He said. I gulped. "Zack, he's a great guy, don't you think?" He gave me another cold laugh. "Please, don't hurt him or Kylie." I begged. "Oh, and Kylie, you're best friend since you were kids. Such an amazing friendship, right?" He said. "Please." My voice broke down and my vision started to become blurry.

"We all have to pay sometimes, Jane. We all have to pay." His voice seemed to eco through the phone. I turned around to search for anything. "I am right here." I gulped as I looked back in front of me. A tall figure with a mask covering his face, was holding a gun straight at me. I dropped my phone, my hands shaking. "I am glad we got to meet." He said.

"Why are you doing this?" I choked on the words. "Revenge, Jane. It has such a sweet taste." He walked closer to me. I tried to walk away. "I wouldn't do that if I were you. The safety is off, you see." His gun clicked. My tears fell silently. My phone started to ring, interrupting the silence.

"Who would be calling at such an hour?" He tilted his head along with the gun. I looked slowly beside me at the phone. The screen was cracked but I could see the caller's name. Zack. It felt as if my heart skipped a beat. He came closer to me. He leaned down, his gun sticked to my chest. I breathed heavily as the metallic gun pushes against my heart.

He got back up with my phone buzzing in his hand. "The boyfriend? Am I keeping you from a date?" He said. His eyes were visible through the light. They were greenish brown. They intensely stared into mine. "You should answer." He nodded as I shook my head. "But, don't try any bad tricks, okay?" He placed a finger onto his lips.

I gulped, trying to steady myself. He placed the phone on speaker. "Where the hell are you, Jane?" Zack's sweet voice came through the phone. I looked at the guy. He nodded. "I-I am on my way. I h-had to grab another b-book." I tried my best not to shake. "Do you want me to come get you?" He asked. "No! No, don't bother." I answered quickly. "Are sure you're okay?" He pressed.

"I am fine, Zack." I watched him. His gun seemed so steady. "Alright, see you in a while." He said. "Yeah." I said, not even sure if I will ever see Zack again. He hung up. "Now, you're coming with me. No parties for you." He grabbed my arm. He walked me beside him, holding the gun to the side of my skull. The cold metal was pressing against my head, making me feel dizzy.

We walked through the dark road. I almost tripped twice as he pulled me. My heart was racing. After a couple of minutes, a street lamp came into my sight. I saw some kind of figure beside it. I really hoped that he didn't notice. He kept on pulling me. I took a deep breath and decided that calling for help would be reasonable in my situation.

I tried my best to collect all the energy I had left to call for help. "Help!" I shouted. Everything after that went so fast. My head pounded as something hit my skull with a lot of force. Pain stretched through my head as I fell to the ground. "Miss? Are you okay?" The voice seemed so far away. The pain behind my eyes stung as I tried to open my them.

Last thing I saw was some kind of a blurry face, then everything was covered in black as I slipped out of my concise.
