Chapter 20
Mike looked older than the picture I saw back at Zack's room. His black hair was longer and shaggier. His cheekbones were high like Zack's, he also shared Zack's hooked nose as well. His eyes were wide and green, just like in the picture, except for the black eye bags that circled his eyes. His lips were so thin.
"So, how is Paris, man?" Zack broke the silence as we waited for Hana to get us our orders. "It's good." He shrugged. "You study in Paris?" I asked. "Yeah." He nodded. "The bastard got a scholarship." Zack chuckled. "Some of us actually work hard, Zack." I rolled my eyes playfully at him. "I can't believe you're being sarcastic. You must have some kind of magic, bro. I have been trying to get her to speak sarcasm for almost a month now." Zack joked.
I shook my head in disappointment. "Did school stop back at Paris, then?" I asked, curiously. "Oh no, mom thinks Mike needs to take a break for his-" Mike cleared his throat, glaring at Zack. "He's taking a break." Zack shrugged. I nodded, getting that why he's taking a break was not my business. Hana got us our food. "George and Oliver wanted you to come over, to the party." Zack chewed his fries.
"I don't recall the last party going so well." I sighted. "Come on, not because you got drunk once and danced for a bit, you won't party ever again." Zack said. Mike seemed so caught up in his thoughts. As if we weren't even here. That he was all alone. "Is he okay?" I whispered to Zack. "Hey, Mike, buddy. You okay?" Zack snapped his fingers, getting Mike out of his own head. "Yeah, yeah. I am good." He nodded, nervously.
I jumped out of the car. "Sure, you don't want me to walk you upstairs?" Zack asked from the car. "Yeah, you guys head home." I said. "Alright, then. Good night, Jane." Zack waved at me saying, while Mike just gave me a small wave from the backseat. I watched both the Lakes brothers as they drove away. There was more to those two than what meets the eye, I just didn't figure it out yet.

I got a text the next day from Zack. He was asking if I would like to come over and hang at his place. Since Kylie wasn't staying here most of the time, due to our unknown fall out. I got bored staying all alone at the room, even when I did nothing but study and write, which was the usual thing. I thought it would be cool, since George and Oliver were nice to me, despite George's teasing. It didn't bother me as much now, since well, me and Zack were together.
I pressed the doorbell, waiting for a response. The weather was chilly and nice. Spring came with its nice breeze, making my loose hair fly behind my neck. Oliver was the one to open the door. A hoodie covered him up, the hood covered his dark hair. "Hey." He smiled as I went inside. "Hi." I gave him an awkward wave. I still got anxious around Zack's friends. I didn't want them to think I was weird or anything.
I followed him into the living room. George was swinging a bottle of beer to his mouth. They were all seniors. Zack was going to graduate next year, I didn't want to think about it much. "Hey." Zack met me between his arms, planting a soft kiss onto my forehead. I smiled as we pulled back. I sat beside him on the couch that Mike was sitting at the very end, so quite just like yesterday.
"Want a beer, Jane?" George offered. "I am good, thank you, George." I said. "We missed you in last night's party, you guys." Oliver sat at a nearby armchair. "Yeah, it was so fucking lit." George excitedly said. "You guys know, I don't do well in parties." I joked. Thankfully, they laughed. The doorbell rang again. "That must be the pizza. Hope you like pizza, Jane." Oliver said. I smiled. "I will go get more booze." George walked away. "You good, right?" Zack asked.
"I am fine." I assured him. It made me happy that he cared, if I was comfortable or not. "I will go get something from upstairs. I won't be long." He smiled. I nodded. I was alone with Mike. I looked at him. He was gazing at his own hands. "Everything okay?" I asked, finally finding the courage to say something. "Hm?" He seemed to gain focus. "You okay?" I asked again. "Yeah, yeah." He nodded, gulping.
"Zack didn't really tell me anything about you, no offense." I said. "Non taken. He doesn't usually talk about us." He said. His jawline was sharper than Zack's. Dimples were piercing through his cheeks, every time he talked. "What do you mean us?" I wondered. His mouth was open, but no words came out. His eyes weren't looking at me. "Mike?" I thought he went back into his thoughts. "Never mind." He smiled nervously. I was confused. I knew he was hiding something. I wasn't going to egg him into telling me.
"Pizza is here!" Oliver came along with George who had a cluster of beer cans. "Where is Zack?" Oliver asked. "I am here." Zack came into the room. "Where were you man?" George asked. "I was just upstairs, getting something." He sat beside me again.
"He was running so fast, I thought that bastard was gonna make it. He was going for the touchdown. Then, out of nowhere, boom. He's down!" George said. We all laughed at the story. "Last night was a tough one, really." Oliver said. I could guess that he and Zack are both having muscle spasms. George on the other side didn't play last night. Zack was holding my hand in his the whole time, as we all listened to George tell another story.
"Here." We both stood in front of my place. "Are you okay?" I asked. "Yeah, do I look not okay?" He asked. "No, it's just. You seemed distant, today." I held both his hand in mine. "You're worried about me, Brown?" He grinned. "Shouldn't I?" I smirked. "God, that's hot." He leaned in. His lips meet mine. Our lips moved with sync. His hands left mine, to hold me closer to him. My hands held his neck. I went with the flow. My mind didn't seem to care about his hands squeezing my hips, or even as they held my thighs up, around him.
I didn't even know if I couldn't feel shy, to do the things that Kylie told me about, and my cheeks wouldn't go red, because I did them too. I just didn't want to be in control for once and I fucking loved it.
