Chapter 19

*two weeks later*

Christmas and winter break were very nice. I spent the new year's eve with Zack. Mom and dad were working most of the time. They didn't seem to care about Zack staying. I wondered if they even still remember the whole thing. "How was your holiday?" I asked, cutting through the tension that got built in the room. "It was good. Alexander came home with me." She shrugged. Of course, he did. It angered me beyond everything that she was still with that abusive bastard.

"Great." I said. "You spend it alone?" She asked. "Oh, no. Zack offered to join me." I explained. "Really? That's great." She gave me a weird smile. How is that someone you couldn't stop talking with, turn into such a stranger within no time? It pained me how far we were, despite living together in the same room.

"I am going to class." I zipped up my bag. She didn't say anything. I rolled my eyes as I made my way out of the room. "Welcome back, dear students. I hope you all had an amazing time in break and that you took it as an opportunity to practice your writing." Professor Harries smiled with her pearly white teeth. She started talking about the basics of being a great writer and how it is connected to our personalities.

After class I hurried out, avoiding another conversation about how my assignment was doing. I wrote exactly four lines, since winter break started. I was so disappointed, I didn't want professer Harries to be disappointed as well. I went to the cafeteria. Zack was sitting at our usual bench, head buried in his notes. "Hey, nerd." I teased.

"Oh, hey, superior nerd." He teased me back. I chuckled as I sat beside him. I gave him a kiss on his cheek, since I didn't like kissing him with people watching, it weirded me out. I was glad that he respected my want. "Hey, I have a game tonight, you're gonna be there, right?" He said. I have never been to any of his games. I would always come up with some kind of excuse not go.

"I don't know, Zack. You know it's not that easy for me. Plus, you're gonna be playing. I will be all alone." I shrugged. "I want you there, to cheer me and stuff. I will take you out after it. It doesn't have to be with the team if you don't want to." He held my hand. I sighted. I wanted to support him, I have came out of my comfort zone a lot of times, for Zack. For Kylie. They both held special places in my life.

"It's tonight?" I asked. "Yeah." He smiled. "Alright, I will try my best." I huffed. He hugged me tightly, I could hear him chuckle. I smiled. I liked that he was happy. I liked making him happy. I smiled as he turned back to his notes with a wide smile.

                                   ~~~~~~~
I took a deep breath as I made my way into the crowded benches. A whole lot of people came to these games. I never knew what was so excited about football anyway. It was so violent. I found an empty chair at the second row. I was surprised that someone could actually leave an empty chair at the second row. The field was still empty, except for the referees. Beside me was a guy. He seemed so silent unlike everyone around us. He seemed familiar for some odd reason as well.
I looked away from him as I heard the teams come out into the field. Zack was walking in his playing uniform. His sandy hair seemed wet. "Well, let's all give it for your champion Zack Lakes!!" The speakers said, as the crowd roared. Zack waved and smiled at everyone. I just watched. Zack and I were quite the opposite. But, you know what they say, opposite attracts. As cheesy as it sounds, I still believed that Zack and I weren't the most perfect pair to each other.
But, I still felt so comfortable around him. The players stood to start the game. It was all so fast, I hardly kept track of Zack. He was incredibly fast and smooth. The crowd cheered as he made his first touchdown. I smiled as our eyes meet, while he threw kisses into the crowd. He smiled back, passing me a wink. I chuckled as I looked away. The game went on, with the crowd going even more and more crazy.
Something about the guy beside me was quite interesting. He was as quite as me. As if he as well, didn't want to be here in the first place. He was just watching the game, not even reacting when a touchdown came. I wondered why he was so quite, but my social anxiety made me just shut up and focus on the game.
After our team kicked the other teams's ass, with almost half of the touchdowns scored by Zack. As the game ended, people started to head to the after party at the football team's sorority house. I got up as well. The guy beside me joined me. He seemed to be following me. It kinda of scared me. Could he be my attacker? I was too scared to even think about it. I skipped to the showers rooms. I waited there.
The mysterious guy was standing a couple of meters away. Just casually leaning against the wall, his hands buried into his pockets. I took out my phone and played with it to ease my anxiety a bit. My hands were shaking. Zack came after ten minutes or so, making my breath easier. "Hey." He smiled. He smelled so fresh with his wet hair. "Hi, congratulations." I smiled back.
"Yeah, it was cool, right?" His teeth showed up. "Yeah, sure." I shrugged, as I don't even know when is it supposed to be cool. Zack looked at the guy. "Hey, Mike!" He called. Mike as Zack called him walked our way. "That's Mike, my brother I told you about, Jane." Zack introduced him. That was how he looked familiar, I thought.
"Hi." I offered him my hand. He took it into his soft hands. His hands were smaller than Zack's. "Mike, this is Jane. My girlfriend." He placed his hand around my shoulders. "Nice to meet you, Jane." Mike spoke for the first time, since I saw him. His voice was sore and raspy beyond normal, it made me wonder if his vocal cords were okay. "You, too. Mike." I smiled, not knowing that Mike had a long story I was about to unfold.
