Chapter 17
I turned the key inside the front door's lock, opening it. Zack followed me into the house. We walked right into the living room. The air smelled dusty as if the whole place hasn't been cleaned in a while. That there was no life existing in the house at all. I sighted, wishing my parents would at least clean up.
"This place really lacks any sprit at all, let alone a Christmas sprit." Zack beside me said with his hands on his hips. "I am sorry." I said as my cheeks burned with embarrassment. "Oh, I don't think it's fair to blame you, Jane. You were gone for like three months." He shrugged. I still felt quite embarrassed.
I got into my room. I wasn't really spending a lot of time in this room as a kid or even as a teenager. I was at Kylie's most of the time. My parents were barely home. I would spend most of my days hanging out with her. I liked it. I wanted us to get over our issues. But, just for once I didn't want to be the first one to apologize.
"Nice room." He was looking around, I seemed to forget about him. "Thanks." I smiled. My room wasn't any different from the living room. "You sure do read a lot of books, Jane." He ran his fingers across the stack of books that laid on a shelf. "I love books, specially poetry." I shrugged. "That's why you write poetry." He turned to look at me. I nodded, happy that he actually remembered.
"I really wonder if you ever wrote a poem about me?" He walked up to me. I wrote one poem about him. It was beautiful. One of my favorites actually. "That's for me to know and for you to find out." I smirked. "I can't believe you've learned teasing already." He shook his head. I laughed. He was smiling and looking at me.
"You wanna introduce me to Queens, then?" His hands were holding my shoulders. "I gotta tell you I don't know much around here, I didn't exactly go out that much." I pursed my lips. "Mmm, well, let's explore it, then." He smiled. I smiled back, bitting my lower lip. I was really happy that Zack was here. That I wasn't alone.

"Don't you just love hot dogs?" He said with a full mouth of hot dogs. I laughed at his muffled voice. He chewed with a smile. The park was coated with snow already. Some people were walking by, even going for a late run, or just walking their pets. I looked up at the sky. It was starting to get dark, the sun was sinking slowly, promising us a long night.
"What are you thinking about?" He asked from beside me. "Nothing, I am just watching the sky change colors, it's very pretty." I said, eyes still gazing at the sky. "You're actually right." I looked at him and he looked up the sky as well. His dark hair was covered by a dark beanie. His jawline seemed to gaze at the sky alongside him. I placed my head on his shoulder. "I have to figure a way to hide you." I mumbled. "Hide me?" He asked.
"Remember my parents think you're a weird psychopath that wants to kill me." I said. He laughed. His laugh ringed through my ears, making love to my eardrums. "I will hide under your bed." He looked at me. I looked up at him, my chin on his shoulder. Our lips were just inches apart. "That might just work." I smirked. His eyes skipped between mine and my lips.
He leaned in to let his lips collide with mine, with a mix of passion and tenderness. It wasn't a long kiss. But, it was enough to fuck up my insides, in a good way. "You're really beautiful, Jane." He smiled. I smiled back, happy as ever.
I walked into the house along with Zack once again. The living room was dark. They didn't come home yet, I thought as I made my way into the kitchen. Zack placed the grocery bags, we got on our way here. "Where is the frozen pizza?" I asked, looking into the first bag. I slid it out of the second bag. I unwrapped it and pushed it into the microwave.
"You think your parents keep booze here?" Zack asked leaning on the counter. I shrugged. I opened the fridge and a wine bottle was setting in the door. I took it out. "It's your lucky day." I said. He chuckled. I gave it to him as I searched for some cups. I ended up getting two mugs. "Wine in a mug, you like to go out of style, huh?" He said as he poured the wine.
"I am sure it will still be wine when we drink it in mugs, Zack." I rolled my eyes playfully. He smirked, handing me a mug. The microwave beeped. I got the warm pizza out of it. "The perfect dinner." I said. "Agreed." He took a slice. I watched him as he chewed his pizza. "Like what you see?" He asked. I smiled.
"Don't be so cocky." I sipped some wine. It tasted really bad. I placed the mug on the counter knowing the rest would go down the sink. "I ruined you, I just know it." He leaned against the counter. "Maybe I wasn't all good from the beginning." I shrugged, remembered Kylie's words. About me pretending to be so innocent.
"What do you mean?" He asked. "Never mind." I shrugged. "No, really. What's wrong?" He walked up to me. "It's just, maybe I am pretending to be someone I am not, you know?" I sighted. "I don't think you pretend when you're with me." He held my chin between his fingers. "I think this is the real you and I like it so damn much." He smiled softly.
I smiled, despite the tears in my eyes. He pecked my lips softly, then pulled me into a tight hug. I lost myself between his arms. I felt so safe, with him. I liked the way I was feeling around him. I really did.
