Chapter 15
I woke up on my phone ringing. I turned in bed, my body hurt. I thought I caught a cold. My throat was sore. I coughed as I sat in bed. Kylie was calling. I slept till late that day. I couldn't really sleep the other night, after the kiss I shared with Zack. I sighted as I canceled the call and pulled on a pair of black sweats.
My hair was so frizzy that morning. I pulled it into a back braid and headed to the police station. I went into the police station after leaving the uber I was riding. The sky was cloudy, that day. I took a deep breath through my runny nose and went into officer Alkaline's office.
"Good morning, miss Brown." He smiled at me with his crooked teeth. I took a seat in the empty chair, beside Kylie. She was chewing gum. "Well, miss Collins, we just want your testimony. The story of how you got kidnapped." He nodded to Kylie, to talk. "I was in a grocery shop. I wanted to get some chocolate." She shrugged. He nodded. "I noticed that there was a weird guy following me since I got into the grocery shop." She continued.
"Can you describe the guy that was following you?" He asked. I watched them. I watched Kylie. She was so causal about the damn thing. It was frustrating for me, really. "I am not entirely sure. I think he was wearing a cap, I couldn't see his hair. He was fair skinned, I guess." She shrugged once again. "Please continue." He motioned for her to go on with her story.
"When I got my chocolate off the shelf, I turned and he was just causally standing at the end of the alley. I thought that it was all okay. But, as I got to the end of the alley, he stood in my way and drugged me with some kind of spray, I guess." She said. "Then, what happened?" Alkaline asked. "I woke up tied to a chair." She leaned back into her chair.
"You didn't see the face of the suspect again?" He asked. "No." She shrugged. "Well, I hope your arm is getting better, miss Collins." He smiled at her. She smiled back. "Miss Brown, I have some unsettling news." He turned to me, his smile wiped off.
"Unfortunately, the phone number that the suspect contacted you from was off service as well." He said. I really didn't like that. That the psycho chasing Zack and Kylie was that good. Never leaving a trace. "But, I promise you we are trying our best to get him." He gave me a reassuring smile.
"Thank you, officer." I nodded. "If there is any other news, I will inform you." He nodded to both of us. Kylie stood up and left. I thanked him and went after her. "Where is our ride?" She asked. "What do you mean?" I frowned.
"Zack didn't drive you here?" She asked. "He's not my driver, Kylie." I rolled my eyes. "Yeah right, he's your friend." She quoted. "Stop that." I came back at her. I have had enough with her shit. Zack was right, screw her. "Whoa, someone is angry." She smirked.
"Yes, Kylie. I am angry!" I stomped my foot. "Why exactly are you angry?" She chewed her gum. "You're being a bitch!" I yelled. I didn't usual cuss or yell at Kylie. "I am the bitch who is going to get us all killed?" She crossed her arms. "I don't even know what does that guy want!!" I angrily said.
"Maybe you're not that angel you claim to be, Jane." She said. "Oh, me?" I threw my sarcasm in. "I am not trying to be someone I am not, Jane. I have always been like this." She smiled.
"You know what, Kylie. Go fuck yourself." I said. "Listen to yourself and you will know exactly what I am talking about." She popped a ballon with her gum and left.

Kylie's words were stuck inside my head. I was sure she was talking shit. I wasn't pretending to be someone I am not. I wasn't claiming to be an angel, either. We all have our flaws. I am just better at hiding them than most people. I sighted as I closed my book, knowing my mind wasn't in a state to study. My writing assignment was left in my emails, waiting for me to even try.
The room's door knocked. I looked up at it. Normally, I would just get up and open. But, I have a psychopath on my trail. I got up slowly and stood behind the door. Kylie didn't come back to the room, so I figured that maybe she went to see her toxic boyfriend. "Who is it?" I asked with a racing heart.
"Zack, are you okay?" His voice calmed my nerves. I opened to see his concerned face. "Hey." I smiled. "You okay?" He asked again. "I am good." I nodded, letting him in. "Nice place." He looked around the room. It was his first time in my room. "Thanks." I shrugged. "How did it go, then? At the police station." He sat on my bed. I wondered how he knew it was mine, maybe the neat sheets gave it away.
"It was weird." I sat beside him, recalling my fight with Kylie earlier. It seemed that all we did was fight. I didn't like it. We were supposed to stick together. Forever. So, much for childhood dreams. I sighted. "What is it?" He looked at me. "I don't know. I guess I am just tired." I hugged my knees to my chest. "Look if this is about that attacker, we will figure it out, alright?" He squeezed my shoulder.
I smiled. "I just want my old boring life back." I said. "What about me?" He clutched his chest, dramatically, making me laugh. "Just with you in it." I smiled. "We should cheer you up a bit. Want some ice cream?" He smiled. I nodded with excitement.
