Chapter 29 (Amy)

I looked around at the sparsely furnished cabin those mutts dragged me to.  The only furniture to be seen was a full size bed and a small table with a broken lamp sitting on top it.  My body ached and the heat was riding me hard.  I was determined that I would not ever beg for that Alpha.  I would revel in my own pain rather than stoop to his level for relief.

The cramps were coming more often and all I could do was slink off into the corner and curl into myself.  I kept the light off and once again prayed to the Moon goddess to give me the strength needed to get out of this mess.

            “Princess?”

I stilled at the sound of the mental call in my head.  Could it really be?  Did the Moon Goddess finally answer my prayers?

After the initial shock I tentatively answered, “Stevie?”

Tears welled in my eyes; it just had to be him.  There is no way my mind would play that dirty of a trick on me.  It just had to be my Mr. Hunky Chocolate Brown Eyes.

“Thank the Moon Goddess,” he quickly answered and all I could do was fall back in relief.  It was him.  Before I could respond he started rapidly firing off question after question.

“Are you okay? Where are you?  What happened?”

I smiled at his obvious concern but starting to feel the weight of the pain from the heat I struggled to answer his questions.

“Baby, where are you?” he asked as I tried to breathe slowly through another cramp.

“I- I don‘t know.” I responded feebly.   My voice was fragile as I tried desperately to focus on our mind connection.  I knew that our mental bond may be my only hopes of rescue so I fought heartily to hold on to it.

“Amy, Princess.  I need you to think for me.  What do you see around you?  Have you heard them say anything that may tell us where you are?” he asked.  His voice was now sounding tense and I could tell that he was straining to hold on to his wolf.  He sensed my pain and his wolf was clawing to get out of his skin.

After several moments of terse silence I heard him ask me again, “Princess, are you still with me?”  Fisting my hands tightly I wrapped my arms around my legs and breathed through the pain.

“Yeah, he- he said something about his cabin.  The Alpha’s cabin,” I finally managed to rattle off in my head.

“Princess, hold on baby.  I know where you are.  We’re coming and I’m bringing the cavalry.  Just hold on a bit longer for me, okay?” Stevie told me.  He exuded confidence through the bond and I was sure that he would do what ever it took to get to me.  I just had to do my part and hold on for a bit longer.  Damn this heat, I swore silently.

“Okay," I finally whispered to him mentally.  "Love you.”

He answered quickly back with, “Love you too,” and the bond was quickly cut, like a telephone call being disconnected.  All I have to do is hold on, he’ll be here, I promised myself.  My mate was going to save me.  That much I had to believe because the alternative was absolutely unbearable.

I sat in the corner of the darkened room and rocked myself.  The back and forth soothing motions did much to help keep the excruciating pain from the cramps at bay.  Time passed and I found myself continually looking out the window for any sign of my mate.  “Hurry,” I whispered into the silence of the room.  “Please hurry,” I repeated.

Minutes later the door opened and I knew instantly who had arrived.  I heard his foot steps as he stalked into the room and went to the table to turn the lamp on.  He turned and narrowed his eyes on me.

“You smell like sweet lilacs,” the Alpha said as he slowly started to come towards me.  “It is a heavenly scent, if I do say so myself,” he continued.  He sat on the edge of the bed and started to remove his shoes.

I scooted back in the corner as far as I could go and wrapped my arms around my legs even tighter.  I didn’t want the Alpha anywhere near me.  The closer he was the more my body wanted to react.  It was reacting to the hellish heat and to the simple fact that he had testosterone.  Being denied my mate, my body was looking for the next best thing and that just so happened to be the Alpha sitting across from me.

My heart rate quickened and my gut churned wildly.  The heat had me calling out for relief, any relief that I could find.  The humanity in me was fighting that urge and I didn’t know how much longer I would be able to hold out.

“You are a pretty little thing aren’t you?” the Alpha continued with his own conversation.  He lifted his nose to the air and closed his eyes.  He breathed in deeply and a smile landed in his face as he started to unbutton his shirt.  “You are ripe my little femme wolf.  The time has come.”

Fear pounded into me like a sledge hammer.  I stayed motionless as I watched the Alpha completely disrobe in horror.  This can’t be happening.  Not when Stevie was this close to saving me.

Then I smelled it.  He was here.  A new confidence bloomed because I not only picked up my mate's scent, but an array of other familiar scents.  He brought the cavalry.

Feeling braver now I stood up and stared the Alpha down.  “You stay away from me,” I stated very calmly.

“You want this, you can’t deny this,” the Alpha answered.  He was now completely nude and to my own disgust he stroked himself trying to entice me.  News flash buddy; it’s not going to happen.

“Huh,” I told him flippantly.  “You couldn’t do anything for me with something that small.  My mate is twice the size of you.”

I wanted to antagonize the bastard.  I wanted to throw him off his game so that Stevie and the pack would have the element of surprise.

“Princess, shut up,” I heard the mental demand in my head.  “We’re here, just back into a corner and stay out of the way.”

I smiled at his command; my mate was forever the thoughtful one.  Unfortunately I had too much of my Mama in me to listen.  I wasn’t done with the jackass that had made the last twenty four hours of my life a complete hell.

“Hell, I’ve seen poodles with bigger man hoods than you.  How do you expect to father pups with something that small?” I pressed forward.

“Submit to me,” the Alpha ordered with a ferocious look on his face.  I almost faltered at the stern request but I quickly regained my confidence.

Raising my brow at his order, I wanted to dare him.  Dare him to touch me.

“Go to hell,” I answered him with a snarl of my own.

His hand came across my face so fast that I never had a chance to see it coming.  Blood trickled from my nose and as I brought my own hand up to where my cheek stung I glared in pure hatred at the Alpha.

Before I could speak another word a large white wolf was standing in front of me fiercely growling at the Alpha.  Stevie.  Electricity filled the air as the Alpha swiftly shifted into a large black wolf.  The two wolves were about the same size which was odd considering Stevie was not of an Alpha blood line.

Growls and snarls filled the air as the two wolves roared and snarled at each other.  I heard sounds of fighting outside of the cabin and was sure that all hell had broken loose.  I had faith in our fighter wolves; they trained with the best.  My worries rested on the white wolf standing before me.  My mate.  Does he really have what it takes to beat an Alpha?

Then the black wolf struck like lightening.  He was quick and instantly went for the killing bite on my mate’s neck.  My eyes widened in alarm.  This wasn’t happening.  I would be damned if I was going to sit here and watch my mate die in front of me.  Looking around the room I grabbed the only weapon I could find - a broken lamp.

Running full throttle at the two wolves wrestling on the floor I lifted the lamp high above my head and with everything that I had in me I brought it down against the black wolf’s head.  A yelp escaped his lips as I watched in satisfaction blood gushing from a gash behind his ear.

The blow was enough to startle the Alpha and it forced him to make a deadly mistake.  He glanced back in my direction with a warning growl and that was all she wrote.  Stevie pressed the advantage and struck with the killing blow.  His monstrous canines closed on the Alpha’s throat, effectively crushing his windpipe.  The Alpha flopped around for several long minutes as he gasped his final breaths.

Stevie released the Alpha and I watched in slow motion the dead wolf’s body slump to the floor.  It was over.  The Alpha was dead.  Stevie had killed the Alpha.  Stevie would now be expected to assume the Alpha position.  Thoughts ran through my head like a freight train.  What are we going to do now?  Suddenly he was a pack leader.  We didn't have plans for this.

Warm arms crushed me into a familiar chest.  My body was trembling from the left over adrenaline.  Stevie tucked his finger under my chin, forcing me to look up at him.  He used the pads of his thumbs to wipe away tears from my face that I hadn’t even realized had fallen.  It was such a tender moment in the wake of the violence that was just shed.

“I love you,” he whispered as his lips came crashing against mine.  He flicked out his tongue and licked along my lower lip demanding entrance.  I was a lost cause.  I obliged him and then reveled in the burn that started to build deep in my belly.  His tongue lavishly explored every inch of my mouth as I tried to find a way crawl into him.  I needed my mate.

My mate was here.  He was holding me.  This was the way it is supposed to be.  The intensity of the moment left me mindless to anything except Stevie.  This is what I needed.  Stevie was my life line, my soul mate, my heart.  He was my everything.

Exhausted from the whole ordeal I collapsed into Stevie’s arms.  I felt the ground leave my feet and knew that Stevie had picked me up.  Turning my head into his chest I buried my nose in his scent.  I was safe.  My mate had me in his arms and nothing else in at this point in time mattered.
