Chapter 2

-Next morning-

Wheeljack yawned, poking his head out the doorway of his quarters. He heard footsteps and ducked back in, hearing someone grumble about something. Ratchet walked by his room, rubbing his optics.

"Bingo.." Wheeljack chuckled, tiptoeing to the break room after Ratchet had passed by and was out of sight.

He slipped into the break room, glancing around before walking over to the energon machine. He opened a storage container and looked through the cups, trying to guess which one was Ratchet's

He found one with science beaker on it and figured it was Ratchet's. He placed it under the energon machine and pressed the button for mild. Steaming hot energon slowly poured into the cup, warming Wheeljack's hand.

Before he left, he filled up his own cup of energon and took a sip. "Oh yeah.." he sighed, walking out of the break room towards the main part of the base.

When he came to the end of the hallway, he noticed that Ratchet was the only one there at the computer. What he didn't notice was Ultra Magnus standing in the corner watching his every move like a hawk.

Wheeljack walked over to Ratchet and tapped his shoulder to get his attention.

Ratchet turned around, a sour look on his face. "What is it now? Oh.." his gaze softened when he saw the energon in Wheeljack's hand.

"Figured you could use some fresh energon after staying up so late, sunshine." Wheeljack smirked, handing Ratchet the energon.

Ratchet blushed when Wheeljack called him 'sunshine', quickly turning away to hide it. He took a slow sip of energon, savoring it's rich taste.

"Well? Did I make it right?"

Ratchet looked at him in confusion. "You made this for me? Well... that's very nice of you." Ratchet's optics glanced off to side as he blushed more.

Wheeljack chuckled, feeling himself blush and snicker. "Thank you." He smiled and walked away, giggling quietly.

It wasn't until he heard someone clear their throat that he realized he wasn't the only one there.

"Interesting behavior, soldier. You do know the rules around here, don't you?" Ultra Magnus grumbled, leaning forward.

"Uh, there's nothing in the rule book that says you can't show feelings to another mech 'sir'." Wheeljack growled, his temper getting the best of him.

"It is inappropriate to show such feelings in a base of operations such as this one. I suggest you keep it to yourself and tone it down. Ratchet probably doesn't like the way you act towards him anyways." Ultra Magnus retorted, lumbering past Wheeljack.

Wheeljack stood there, completely crushed by what Magnus had said. "B-but why is he acting so nice towards me?! Is it just a fake?" He said to himself, pacing back and forth. "No, it's not fake. I don't care what 'shoulder pads' has to say about my choices. I'll do whatever I want." He huffed, crossing his arms across his chest.

"What was that?" Ratchet called over his shoulder.

"Oh! Um, it was nothing Ratch." Wheeljack sighed.

"Ok then.. Hey, could you help me for a moment? I need help with sorting this information."

Wheeljack's optics lit up and he smiled, turning around and walking back towards the computer where Ratchet was waiting. "Sure thing, Doc."

Ratchet chuckled and sighed, moving over so that Wheeljack could stand next to him. Wheeljack showed him what to do, gradually shuffling a little bit closer to him. Soon, he was so close that their armor brushed up when Wheeljack lifted his arm.

Ratchet felt his spark jump at the touch and flinched a bit.

Wheeljack looked at him with concern. "You okay?"

Ratchet sighed. "Yeah, I'm fine. Lets continue."

Wheeljack shrugged, continuing to show him what to do.

-A few hours later-

Wheeljack had just finished up and left to go on a drive, so Ratchet decided this would be the perfect time to talk to Bulkhead.

"Bulkhead!" He called out, scanning the room for the green mech.

"What Ratch? I didn't break anything did I?" Bulkhead said sheepishly, rubbing the back of his head as he walked towards Ratchet.

"No, that's not what I want to talk to you about. It's something important."

Bulkhead straightened up and tilted his head. "Okay... What is it?"

"Do you know why Wheeljack is acting weird towards me? He keeps blushing when he looks at me and my scanners indicate that his spark pulses at an unnatural pace when he near me."

"Umm...."

"Bulkhead.." Ratchet frowned, narrowing his optics.

Bulkhead sighed, smacking himself in the face. "Oh Wheeljack's gonna hate me for telling you this but.... he likes you."

"H-He likes me?!" Ratchet was stunned, his face turning a shade of pink.

"Yeah, he's trying to earn your respect and, Uh, flirt with you I guess..."

"I never thought that a bot like him would be interested in a boring bot like me! How long has this been going on?"

"Ever since he got here. He told me he knew you were the one when he laid optics on you." Bulkhead chuckled.

By this time, Ratchet was red as a tomato. His spark was pulsing so fast he thought it would burst out of his chest. "I-I don't know what to do.."

"Wow, I've never seen you act like this before! You must like him too, eh?" Bulkhead grinned, nudging him with his elbow.

Ratchet sighed in defeat and smacked Bulkhead's arm away. "Yes..."

"Haha! I bet Jackie will be happy when he hears this!"

"Don't tell him yet! I... I want to tell him how I feel. It will be more personal that way.." Ratchet smiled a bit, blushing madly.

"Okay then, have fun!" Bulkhead snickered, lumbering away into the hallway.

Ratchet took in a deep breath and sighed. He hadn't felt this way in a long time. Ever since they left Cybertron, he didn't really have time to have a love interest. Now he had tons of time and no idea how to use it.
