14. I also want Appa

Jia continued to glance at the excited boy sitting on the passenger seat while driving the car. She was just as excited as her son to go to their favorite restaurant for dinner. The restaurant was more than 30 kilometers distant from their home, but she couldn't care less at the moment.

It had been a long time since the mother-son duo went out to eat. Jia had been too preoccupied with her café to spend more time with her kid, which she regretted. But today, she felt like spending some time with her son. Also, she decided to take a break as it was the weekend.

As his mother drove, Ji-hu continued to observe the trees, houses, and automobiles pass by. Something occurred to him shortly after. Going to kindergarten and meeting new people was a fun experience for the boy. But something bothered him every time he went there. He looked at his mother, who was singing along to the tunes on the radio with her full attention on the road.

The child looked down and fidgeted with his fingers, unsure whether or not to ask the question he was about to ask. "Eomma, why I have no appa? My friends come with Appa. I also want appa." Ji-hu pouted and looked innocently at his mother.

Jia knew that she would see this day. But she never saw it coming this early. She took a deep breath and slowed down her car, which was an old one. She didn't want to drive at the same speed because her car had the habit of stopping at the wrong time, always.

"Baby, your appa is working." Jia lied because she couldn't think of anything else.

"Don't he miss me? Where he working?" In a not-so-fluent language, the three-year-old boy inquired.

"Baby, we-" Before she could continue, her car ditched her yet again. She had to park on the side of the road with caution. She cupped her son's cheeks as she looked at him. "Baby, I'll have to go out and check what's wrong with the car. Please don't come out, okay?" She inquired gently, earning an innocent nod. She pecked his forehead and looked at the rear-view mirror before getting out.

"Where are you going, Tae?" Jin asked his cousin, who was playing with the paperweight while sitting in the former's cabin.

"Home. It seems like I bought an apartment here for an investment and nothing else." Taehyung sighed before continuing, "I need some alone time, hyung. Since the day I saw Jia and Ji-hu, I'm unable to rest." He concluded by finally looking at the elder, who sat behind the table in the opposite chair.

"Sure! Take a break for this weekend. According to the forecast, the weather will be unpleasant. It would be better if you leave right now and reach home as soon as possible. I'll see you on Monday." Jin flashed a smile.

Taehyung got up and double-checked his appearance before putting on a mask and leaving the office.

Lately, the idol had been busy working on his new song. They were working on a new album that would include some solo songs of all the four idols including Suga, with some group songs.

Taehyung had no time to reflect on himself or his future. He was thirty years old at the time. He had been looking for Jia for the past three years, but he couldn't. He made the decision to focus on his career and had no plans to move on with his life. Okay, he may have thought to move on at one point but here he was, still waiting for her to forgive him. He was well aware that he was to blame for all that had occurred previously. But he had changed. The idol was no more the playboy he used to be years back. He no longer had commitment issues.

Taehyung sat in the car, looking out the window. "It is going to rain. I guess you want to cry for my bad luck, don't you?" He mumbled while looking at the clouds. He let out a bitter laugh and began to think about what he should have for dinner. He thought about all the dishes he had been craving for the last few days but couldn't eat because of his busy schedule. He wished to eat like a pig and procrastinate for the next two days.

Not long after, a figure standing near a stationary car grabbed his attention. He urged his driver to pull over to the side of the road before stepping out to assist the girl.

"How long will I have to wait? I've been here for 20 minutes and have yet to see anyone." The girl was screaming while talking.

Taehyung coughed in order to grab the attention of the girl, who had her back facing him. "You better come here fast, sir. My son is hungry and I can't spend a whole night on the streets." She yelled before disconnecting the call.

On turning, Jia saw Taehyung standing in front of her with soft expressions. "What do you want now?" She asked, crossing her arms near her chest.

"Shall I drop you off if your car isn't working?" Taehyung inquired. He cocked his head to peer inside the vehicle. His attention was drawn to the small sleeping boy in the passenger seat. "Jia, get in my car over there." He pointed at his back and continued, "Let me pick up the boy."

A hand stopped him as he was about to approach the sleeping person. "Just go! We can manage." Jia spoke up, acting like the obstinate young lady she was.

"Just the way you were for the last 20 mins!?" Taehyung deadpanned. He sighed and continued, "Don't be stubborn. The weather isn't good today. It's better to take my assistance than to literally sleep here on the streets. And I won't let my son suffer because of your stubbornness. So, please!" Taehyung spoke as he jerked her hand and walked to take his son.

The sudden lightning made Jia give up on her stubbornness. She knew Taehyung was right. She walked to the car and grabbed all their belongings. She locked the car and waited for Taehyung, who had almost paused while looking at the sleeping boy in his arms. He had a smile plastered on his face which made Jia's heart skip many beats.

🥀

Taehyung continued to look at the innocent face of his son, who slept on the former's lap. The little boy squirmed a little at first, but after relaxing, he nestled close to the elder, pressing his face against his father's baby stomach.

Taehyung ran his hand on Ji-hu's head. "Where should I drop you?" He asked his ex-wife, not looking at her.

"I think we should go home now," Jia replied with a sigh. She was too exhausted to be a brat just now. She closed her eyes, not wanting to talk or do anything. She was soon engulfed by slumber.

Taehyung gazed at his ex-wife, who was leaning against his shoulder and then at their son, who was laying on his lap. A few minutes back he thought that he was unlucky. But he couldn't feel luckier now. The rain outside strangely soothed him, as if the weather was congratulating him on his happiness. He wished to have a complete family again if that was even possible. With a smile on his lips, he put his head on the girl's head and closed his eyes.
