Bright and early at 9 AM, Pippa sat on the couch in the resort room feeding Enzo as per usual. It took 20 minutes for Enzo to feed and 12 for him to burp. Once, he was done, he laid his head on Pippa shoulder and fell asleep. "Let's go get Lesley up," she whispered. Phillipa got off the couch and walked to she and Lin's room. She placed Enzo in the bed with Lin, and turned to the other queen sized bed. When Pippa turned on the desktop light, she knew something wasn't right. She looked over to see Lesley struggling to breath, and Pippa's own breathing started to pick up. She ran the bed parallel of she and Lin and sat next to Lesley. "Lesley," she whispered. The child's lips, started to turn blue and her breathing picked up. "Lesley Charlotte," Pippa said louder. "Lin!" She yelled, not caring that she woke up Enzo. Lin started to stir, but moved slowly. "Lin, she can't breath!" Pippa screamed. Lin's eyes opened quickly.

"What? What is going on?" Lin freaked.

"I don't know! All I know is that my child can't breathe!" Pippa answered. With a quickness, Pippa ripped her phone off the charger and called 911. As she was on the phone, Stevie and Lauren heard the yelling and rushed to her parent's room.

"What's happening?" Stevie asked. Lin picked up Enzo and gave him to Lauren. She gladly took the baby and tried to bounce him, but both she and Stevie were a mess as well.

"We don't know. All we know is that Lesley can't breathe. The nearest hospital is about 5 minutes away, and that's where I'm headed," Lin said, putting on his shoes. He wrapped Lesley in a blanket and picked her up. He saw Pippa still on the phone. He snatched her phone and hung up."Pip, let's go! We don't have time for an ambulance. She could be dead by then," Lin shouted. He grabbed his keys and ran out of the room carrying Lesley. Pippa grabbed her phone and ran after him. Stevie shook her head and started to go after them but Lauren pulled her back with her free arm.

"No! Let me go! I have to be with my sister!" She screamed. Lauren pulled her back into the room and shut the door.

"There isn't anything you could do right now. When they get anything they will call us. But, for now, we have to take care of Mason and Enzo," Lauren said. She slowly let go of Stevie and watched her sink to the floor.

"What did she do to deserve this? She's just a baby!" Stevie cried. "She never did anything. She's just an innocent little girl," she whispered. Lauren sat next to her girlfriend and rubbed Stevie's back.

"It's going to be okay. She will survive. She is tough," Lauren said. Stevie shook her head.

"What if she doesn't? Momma can't take another heartbreak like that. It will crush her. She will literally be done," Stevie said. Lauren shook her head.

"Don't do that! Don't dwell on what if. Lesley will pull through. And she will come home just fine," Lauren proclaimed. Stevie nodded, and let the tears rain down her face.

At the hospital, Lin ran inside with Pippa behind him to the front desk. "What seems to be the problem?" A bored nurse asked. Clearly, he didn't see the desperation on their faces.

"My daughter can't breath!" Lin said. The male nurse looked up quickly and paged a doctor over the intercoms.

"Come back this way! And put her over there," he said. Lin ran to the side doors with Pippa and laid Lesley on the gurney. "How old is she?" He asked. Lin held onto Pippa, as she cried into her hand.

"She turned one today," Lin answered. Tears were threatening to fall, but he was trying to stay strong for Pippa.

"Alright. Is she allergic to anything?" He asked. Both Lin and Pippa shook their heads. "Okay. I'm gonna take her and we take good care of her. There is a waiting room down the hall to the left," he instructed. As they were wheeling his daughter away, Lin caught up with them for one last thing.

"Her name is Lesley," he added. The nurses nodded and went into an area Lin wasn't allowed in. He ran his hands through his hair and punched the wall. Pippa ran to him and engulfed him in a hug. "It's okay baby," he whispered. "It's gonna be okay," he reassured. Pippa cried into his chest as he walked them to a private waiting room.

An hour past, before a doctor came out to talk to Phillipa and Lin. They went to stand up, but the doctor shook her head and sat in front of them. "How is she? What's going on?" Lin asked. Pippa placed her hand on his leg to calm him down.

"Your daughter's lung collapsed," the doctor answered, "We have a tube in for now, and we have drained most of the blood in her lung. You're lucky you brought her in when you did. Any longer and she would've drowned in her blood," she finished. Pippa looked at her confused.

"Why was she bleeding into her lung?" Pippa asked. The doctor shook her head.

"We don't know. There seemed to be a tear in the lining of her lung that we patched up but," the doctor trailed off. Pippa started to freak out.

"But? But what?" She almost yelled.

"We don't know how long it will hold. And if she starts to bleed in her lung again we may not be able to stop it. I hate to say it, but If I were you I would start thinking of funeral arrangements," The doctor said before she got up. Lin was at a loss for words, and Pippa was hysterical.

"Can we see her?" Lin asked. The doctor nodded and took them to Lesley's room. She was lying in the big hospital bed, with her gown and diaper own. There was a tub going down her trachea to keep her breathing, four wires attached to her chest to make sure her heart rate didn't fall, and IV's hooked to both hands. She was truly helpless.

"We have her in a medically induced coma until you figure out what you want to do," The doctor informed, before peacing out. Pippa rushed to her daughters' side and got into the bed with her.

"Mommy is right here baby girl. Just hang on," Pippa whispered. "Just hang on," she begged. Lin pulled out his phone and texted Stevie the update.

🦋🦋🦋

Stevie chucked her phone across the room at the sight of text. "Bullshit!" She yelled. "Alright. Big man! If you do everything they say you do, then go ahead! Bring Lesley out of this alive!" Stevie challenged. Lauren shook her head and rocked Enzo.

"That's not how God works," Lauren said. Stevie rolled her eyes and got dressed quickly. "Where are you going?" Lauren asked. Stevie grabbed her bag and threw it over her shoulder.

"I'm going to be with my baby sister. Fuck waiting!" She said. Lauren shook her head and continued to calm Enzo down.

🦋🦋🦋

Stevie came into her sister room to see Pippa asleep next to the baby and Lin staring out the window. "How is mom holding up?" Stevie asked. Lin pulled her into a hug and, kissed the top of her head.

"She's seen better days," Lin sighed. Stevie sat on the couch and put her head in her knees.

"So, they just don't know anything?" Stevie asked. Lin nodded.

"Pretty much. All they know is that she has a higher chance of dying than pulling through," Lin answered. Stevie wiped her tears and took a deep breath.

"Do you think she'll revert?" Stevie asked, staring at Pippa. Lin shook his head.

"I don't," he replied. "She has Enzo now and no matter what happens, he will still need her," Lin explained. He took a seat next to Stevie and watched his wife sleep. The sorrow ridden father bowed his head. "Lord, if you can hear me, please provide a way out of this for Lesley. You know that we can't afford to lose her, but we also want you to have your way. Please protect her for as long as you deem fit," Lin prayed. Stevie looked at him in disgust.

"You are sick! You prayed that she would die?" Stevie screamed. Lin shook his head.

"No! I just asked that his will be done," Lin said. "Listen, we are like an unfinished puzzle. With every move, we see a little more, but we will never see the full picture. Only he will," Lin said. Stevie shot up and shook her head vigorously.

"No! That's not fair! She is an innocent, sweet little girl! She doesn't deserve any of this!" Stevie flipped. Lin nodded and looked at his shoes. "And you're just gonna sit there!" She screamed. Pippa's eyes started to flutter open, as Stevie went off. "Why aren't you doing anything!" She yelled.

"What is there for us to do?" Pippa asked. Stevie jumped at the sound of her mom.

"I-" she stuttered. Phillipa got out of the bed and folded her arms.

"You come in here, yelling and screaming about wanting to do something. But have no ideas. You want to see change but won't change your own attitude. You want all these things and can't provide. But, let me help you out. Zip it," she said. Stevie gasped. "Shut up. My baby is in here fighting for her life but you want to be the martyr. I was told that I may have to think of funeral arrangements for my child on her first birthday!" Phillipa yelled. "This isn't about you! This is about that little girl lying in a coma at age one! If you are too damn selfish to see that then go back to the hotel room," Pippa said, coldly. Stevie scoffed and walked out of the hospital room. Lin stayed quiet and watched his wife crawl back into bed with their baby.

After leaving the room in a fit of rage, Stevie wandered the halls until she ended up at the chapel. "Yeah right," she whispered, bypassing it and heading it the cafeteria. She gave up on God as soon as she saw Lesley lying in the hotel room struggling to breathe. Her relationship was strained with him before, but after today it was almost severed.

In the cafeteria, she sat at an empty table and picked at her muffin. "I'm selfish? Sure. I came here didn't I?" She folded her arms, and mutter to herself about how unselfish she was. Like people actually cared.

At 3:36 PM Lin and Pippa were forced out of sleep when the machine hooked to Lesley's heart monitor went haywire. Phillipa jumped out of the way of the doctors and watched them pulled to tubes off of the small chilled. Pippa started to cry into Lin's chest as a team of 7 nurses came in and started to revive Lesley. "Get them out of here. Now!" A head nurse commanded. Lin pulled Pippa towards the door kicking and screaming for her baby.

"I need to stay with her!" Pippa screamed as Lin dragged her out. "No! I'm her mother! NO!" She cried. Lin finally got her out of the room, and two sat on the floor across from the door. They watched for 6 minutes as more and more doctors came into the room. Before Lin and Phillipa knew what had happened, the wild beeping stopped completely. "What is going on," Pippa asked. She watched as the wheeled some of the machines out one by one.

"I'm sorry, but your daughters kidneys shut down. If we can't find her a transplant by next week, she won't survive," said the female doctor that did Lesley'a surgery. Pippa turned away from the desolate room and curled into Lin. "We'll get her on the list, but we have some many patients that... I wouldn't get my hopes up," she said, walking away.

"I can't lose her Lin! I just can't," Phillipa yelled. Lin nodded and stroked her hair, soothingly.

"Like a comet pulled from orbit, as it passes the sun..."
