It was 11:30 am in cloudy New York City. Steviana Carpenter was making her way to the clinic to get the morning after pill as a part of her usual Thursday ritual. She was walking Non-Stop, her favorite Hamilton song, came on. She knew all the words and the song actually put a pep in her step. That was until she got to the clinic. "What up Janice?" She said greeting the nurse sitting behind the reception desk. Janice rolled her eyes and looked at her computer.

"Well, well, well, if it isn't the neighborhood whore," Moriah Kelly, another nurse, said as she was coming from the back. Stevie flipped her off and took a seat. While she was sitting looking through her twitter, a tall, slender woman came in. She had long, bone straight, brown hair, and wore sunglasses. Stevie didn't even pay much attention to the woman, she continued to listen to, now, Guns and Ships while waiting for her name to be called.

"Name?" Janice said nicely. The woman took off her sunglasses and set them in her bag.

"Pippa Soo," she said. Janice wrote it down and gave her a clipboard. Pippa took it and found an empty seat, two chairs from Stevie. As she was filling out the questions, Pippa found herself looking around the office. There were kids playing, pregnant moms, nervous teens. It was a whole array of angst. But, her gaze landed on Stevie and for some reason, she couldn't look away. Stevie, however, didn't like that. Without even processing who it was or think twice Stevie responded. She took out her headphone and looked at Pippa.

"The fuck are you looking at?" Stevie snapped. Pippa bit her lip and looked back down at her papers again. Stevie rolled her eyes and put her headphone back in. She started to scroll through her phone again.

"Stevie!" Janice called. The teenager popped up from the seat and grabbed the bag from Janice. Phillipa couldn't help but look at the young girl again.

"See ya next week," Stevie called, as she left out. Phillipa finished the papers and gave the clipboard back to Janice.

"The doctor will be with you as soon as possible," Janice smiled. Phillipa nodded and grabbed her phone from her pocket. The twenty-six-year-old sat back down and started to text her best friend, Reneé.

Pip-Pip Hooray🎉💘: hey...
Golden Berry🍇💛: heeey girly! What's up??
Pip-Pip Hooray🎉💘: I'm still not feeling the best😣
Golden Berry🍇💛: jaz and I are still praying for you🙏🏾

Golden Berry🍇💛: I hope so! i love you💘 let me know what happens!
Pip-Pip Hooray🎉💘: will do!

Pippa sat her phone down and looked around as she waited for the doctor. It wasn't long before her name was called and she was in the back. "Hello, Phillipa. I'm doctor Laine. What can I do for you today?" She asked before she washed her hands. Phillipa played with her hands and looked at the floor.

"I need an...abortion," she said quietly. Dr. Laine looked concerned. A protest arose in her throat, but she nodded and went to get her equipment. Phillipa put her hand on her stomach and let a tear fall. "I am so sorry baby," she whispered. "I truly am," she said one last time before stripping into the gown she was given.

At the theater, an hour later, Phillipa came in walking slowly and wearing her shades, again. When she got to her dressing room she laid on the couch and tried to relax. The doctor said she would need a lot of rest but she didn't have time for that. She had two shows and a #Ham4Ham to do. Once she laid on the comfortable, leather couch she started to fall asleep when Lin-Manuel Miranda burst into her room. "Pip! Guess what I found on-" He stopped when he noticed she was snuggled under a blanket on her couch. "Pip, you okay?" Lin asked, sitting next to her torso. Pippa nodded and took off her sunglasses to reveal her bloodshot eyes. "Oh, Pippa. You didn't," he whispered. She nodded, while he pulled her into a tight hug.

"I had no other choice," she cried. Tears streamed down her face and her heart broke with every sob. Lin took a deep breath to keep from crying himself. He couldn't stand to see the sweetest, kindest, most generous person he knew caught between a rock and a hard place like this.

"It's gonna be okay," Lin reassured. He rubbed her back, and softly sang For Good from Wicked as if it were a lullaby. That always calmed Phillipa down.

On the other side of town, Stevie was about to take the pill she got from the clinic when a knock on her friend's door sounded. She put the pill on the package and walked to the door.  When she opened it she dodged to miss being hit by a fist. "You bitch!" He yelled. Stevie screamed and ran around the small apartment as this guy chased her. He was clearly a twenty-year-old man, who was upset that the woman he paid for was indeed not a woman yet. She grabbed her backpack and left the pill sitting on the table as she bolted from the apartment and won't be hall. "I'm gonna kill you bitch!" He screamed down the street. She sprints for four blocks before deciding it was safe to stop.

"Holy shit," She whispered. Stevie turned the corner into an alley behind some sort of play building and opened her bag. There was a set of clothes, her money jar, a wallet, toothbrush, and phone charger. "Now where am I supposed to go?" She asked, sitting on the steps of a door in the alley.

🕯🕯🕯

During the song That Would Be Enough, Phillipa barely made it through the second line before running off stage, bawling. The lyrics were to moving, and to early for her to sing about. Thankfully, Carleigh was ready in a matter of minutes to go on for her. Pippa ran through the theater and to the back alleyway before throwing up near the fire escape. The nerves and the feelings could not be contained anymore, and they came out in the form of vomit. "That's disgusting," Stevie said as she watched from across the alley. Phillipa rolled her eyes and shook her head.

"What are you doing back here?" She asked, grabbing a towel from right inside the door and wiping off her mouth.

"I could ask you the same," Stevie responded. Phillipa shrugged. "Aren't you supposed to being singing right now?" Stevie said. Phillipa shrugged again. "Do you talk?" Stevie asked. Phillipa once again just shrugged.

"Yes. I am supposed to be singing but I'm not because of personal reasons," Pippa said. Stevie put her hands up in defense.

"Well okay then," Stevie said. She zipped her bag and stood up.

"You heading home?" Pippa asked. Stevie held her hand out and twirled.

"The streets are my home," Stevie answered, walking out of the alley and disappearing from Pippa's line of sight.

"Interesting," Pippa said, before heading back into the building and straight to her dressing room.
