Chapter 12

The excitement in the air was palpable as Sara's house buzzed with preparations for her engagement to Shubman. Aditi, her best friend, was by her side, helping her get ready for one of the biggest days of her life.

Sara stood in front of the mirror, dressed in an exquisite cream-colored lehenga that exuded traditional elegance and modern sophistication. The blouse was perfectly fitted, with short sleeves and a deep neckline, its edges adorned with intricate embroidery. The delicate detailing along the borders gave it a refined yet luxurious feel, making her look every bit the regal bride-to-be.

The lehenga skirt was a masterpiece in itself. The voluminous cream fabric swirled gracefully around her as she moved, embroidered with rich gold threadwork that cascaded down from the waist and intensified towards the bottom hem. The bottom border was particularly striking, featuring ornate black and gold motifs interspersed with small embellishments that glimmered in the light. The combination of colors and textures created a look that was both opulent and graceful.

Draped over her shoulder was the matching dupatta, equally rich in its craftsmanship. The golden threadwork on the borders mirrored that of the lehenga, and the small, dangling beads along the edges added an extra layer of elegance. Sara's fingers lightly brushed over the dupatta as she admired the detailing in the mirror, the intricate work making her feel both grounded in tradition and ready for the future.

Her look was completed with stunning bridal jewelry. A statement necklace sat perfectly on her neckline, drawing attention to her glowing skin. A maang tikka adorned her forehead, while large earrings and layered bangles clinked softly as she moved. The pearls and gemstones in her jewelry were set perfectly to complement her outfit's understated elegance, creating a rich, ornate look without overpowering the ensemble.

Aditi stepped back to admire her work. "Sara, you look breathtaking."

Sara smiled, her heart fluttering as she looked at her reflection. Her hair was styled in an elegant updo, adorned with delicate floral accessories and a traditional hairpiece. Her makeup was soft but striking, with a glowing complexion and subtle eye makeup that enhanced her natural beauty.

As Sara stood there, taking in her appearance, her phone buzzed. It was a message from Shubman: "Ready for this?"

She smiled softly, butterflies swirling in her stomach. She quickly typed back, "As ready as I'll ever be."

Aditi peeked over her shoulder and grinned. "Nervous?"

Sara nodded, feeling a mix of excitement and anxiety. "A little, but it feels right."

The door creaked open, and Sachin poked his head in, his eyes lighting up when he saw his daughter. "Sara, you look beautiful, beta," he said, his voice full of pride.

"Thanks, Baba," she replied, her heart swelling with love.

"It's time," Sachin added, a soft smile on his face as he stepped into the room fully. "Everyone's waiting downstairs."

Sara took a deep breath, nodding as she gathered herself. "Let's do this."

Aditi squeezed her hand. "You've got this."

As Sara stepped out of her room and made her way downstairs, the excitement in the house only grew. The Tendulkar family was overjoyed, and the Gills were equally excited to welcome Sara into their family.

When she reached the engagement venue, her eyes immediately sought out Shubman. He was standing near the stage, looking dashing in his sherwani, talking with his friends. Their eyes met across the room, and Shubman smiled warmly at her, his gaze full of admiration.

Sara's heart skipped a beat as she walked towards him, her lehenga swirling around her. It was finally happening—this was the beginning of a new chapter in both of their lives.

The venue was lit up with soft, warm lights, creating an atmosphere of intimacy and celebration. Family members and friends from both the Tendulkar and Gill families filled the space, excited chatter and laughter echoing around. The stage, adorned with delicate flowers and drapes, awaited the moment everyone had been anticipating—the ring exchange.

Sara made her way towards the stage, accompanied by Aditi, while her parents beamed with pride from the front row. On the opposite side, Shubman stood with his family, looking handsome in his cream-colored sherwani, embroidered with intricate gold patterns that matched Sara's ensemble perfectly. His hair was slicked back neatly, and his eyes never left her as she approached, his expression filled with a mix of excitement and admiration.

When Sara reached the stage, Shubman stepped forward, offering her his hand. She placed her hand in his, feeling the warmth of his touch as they stood before their families, the moment finally arriving.

Keart, beaming from the side, whispered, "It's time!"

The priest blessed the rings, and with a nod from Sachin and Lakhwinder, Shubman took the ring from the small, velvet box. It was a simple yet elegant gold band, with tiny diamonds embedded along the surface. He held it gently between his fingers, looking at Sara as if asking for her silent approval before sliding it onto her finger.

As the ring slipped onto her hand, Sara felt her heart flutter—a surreal moment that symbolized the start of something truly special. The audience clapped, and a few whistles of excitement could be heard from their friends, making the moment even more joyful.

Now it was Sara's turn. She took the ring meant for Shubman—a platinum band with subtle engravings that sparkled under the lights. Her hands trembled slightly as she slid the ring onto his finger. She looked up into his eyes and found Shubman smiling, his gaze soft and reassuring.

"There, all done," Shubman teased gently, his voice low enough for only her to hear.

Sara let out a small laugh, trying to suppress her nervousness. "You make it sound so easy."

Shubman chuckled, his eyes never leaving hers. "When it's you, it is."

As they completed the exchange, the crowd erupted into applause. The moment was sealed with smiles and warmth, both of them glowing under the lights. Lakhwinder and Keart hugged their son, while Sachin and Anjali showered their daughter with affection.

Shahneel, of course, couldn't miss the opportunity to tease. "This is just the beginning, guys! Wait till the wedding!" she called out, making everyone laugh.

Ishan, who was standing nearby with the other cricketers, chimed in, "Shubman, how does it feel to officially belong to someone now?"

Shubman laughed and gave him a playful punch on the shoulder. "Feels great. Couldn't have asked for anyone better."

As the family members gathered around for pictures and hugs, Sara felt a wave of happiness wash over her. She looked at Shubman, who was talking to his friends but still managed to glance at her every few seconds. Their eyes met once more, and they shared a knowing smile. It felt right—everything about this day, this moment.

Amidst the laughter and the chaos of family, it was clear to both of them: this engagement wasn't just a ceremony. It was the start of a life they were going to build together.

Shubman gently leaned closer to Sara during the family photo and whispered, "So, are you ready for the crazy wedding preparations?"

Sara smirked, her heart still racing from the emotional ceremony. "Ready as I'll ever be."

"Good," Shubman said with a wink. "Because it's going to be one amazing ride."

After the engagement ceremony, when the guests had settled down to enjoy the evening, Shubman and Sara found a quiet corner. The excitement of the day still lingered in the air, and they were both glowing with happiness. Shubman leaned in toward Sara, holding his phone up.

"Shall we make it official online?" he asked, showing her the draft of an Instagram post he'd been working on.

Sara smiled, nodding as she glanced at the screen. "Let's do it."

Shubman selected one of the candid shots from the ring exchange—Sara looking at him with a soft smile, their hands entwined, and the rings sparkling on their fingers. He added a picture of the two of them laughing after the ceremony, their happiness palpable, along with a group picture with both families.

After choosing the pictures, Shubman typed out a heartfelt caption.

Today, I said yes to a lifetime of love, laughter, and endless banter with the most amazing woman I could ever imagine. Here's to us, @saratendulkar, and all the memories we'll make together. I can't wait for the next chapter with you by my side. 💍❤️ #Engaged #NewBeginnings #ForeverOurs

Shubman showed Sara the post, and she smiled widely. "That's beautiful, Shub," she said softly.

Sara then pulled out her phone, scrolling through the pictures. She picked a couple of them as well—one of them exchanging rings, another where Shubman was looking at her with pure admiration, and a cute one where Shubman had a bit of cake smeared on his face, both of them laughing.

She crafted her caption.

A day I will never forget, surrounded by love and laughter, and the start of something truly special. @shubmangill, thank you for being the calm in my storm and for always making me smile. Excited for all that's to come! 💍✨ #Engaged #HereWeGo #ForeverUs
