Chapter 20

DAY FOUR (EVENING)

(Golfball's POV)

I sprinted to where Leafy had collapsed. I needed to talk to her, but firey leaped in front of her to block me the moment I began to approach her.

I don't have time for this nonsense! I thought impatiently.

"Firey, I need to talk to Leafy, now!"

"No, I won't let you hurt Leafy! I know you're still a zombie, because your eyes are red!"

I wished I had a hand to slap him with. "That's just a side effect of the curse!"

"Huh? Curse?" Firey clearly had no idea what was going on.

"I'll explain later, but I need to talk to Leafy first."

Firey hesitated, then agreed. We then spent ten minutes and forty two seconds trying to wake Leafy with no success.

Finally, Gelatin walked over to see what was going on. I had been so focused on trying to talk to Leafy that I had actually forgotten about the celebration until I saw Gelatin wearing a lampshade on his head.

"Wow, that party is AWESOME! You guys should- wait, what happened?"

"Leafy passed out!" Firey exclaimed, his voice clearly full of concern.

"Oh, I know how to wake her up!" Gelatin announced cheerfully.

I turned to Gelatin. "Well don't just stand there. Wake up Leafy!"

"Alright, alright. Sheesh." We watched attentively as Gelatin seemingly pulled something out of mid air.

Firey gave his friend a confused look. "...A yoyel berry? How is that going to wake Leafy up?"

Gelatin then forcefully stuffed the yoyel berry into Leafy's mouth. Leafy's eyes then proceeded to open wide with disgust.

"Leafy!" Firey exclaimed. "You're okay!" Leafy actually looked like she wanted to throw up, but she instead swallowed the yoyel berry and shuddered.

"Leafy, I need to talk to you." I said in my most commanding voice.

"Okay." Firey said.

"What is it?" Gelatin asked.

"I MEANT I need to talk to Leafy alone."

"... Golfball? Your eyes are red." Leafy said as if in a trance.

"Don't worry, I'm pretty sure it's just a side affect from the curse." I said confidently.

"Ok..."

"I need to talk to you." I said impatiently.

"WHAT?" Firey

"Okay, I know where we can talk." Leafy replied. We then left before Firey could protest further.

(Nickel's POV)

I was at OJ's hotel. It was raining and Mephone still didn't come up with any ideas for the next challenge, so filming for inanimate insanity was postponed.

I don't know why, but I was sitting on the couch and watching the news. I think OJ wanted to see if they were gonna say anything about the weather.

... And there is still no news regarding what happened to the objects who participated in battle for dream island again. Although there are many rumors being spread by the show's fans regarding the incident...

"Hey Nickel, weren't you on BFDIA?" OJ asked.

"Well yeah, I WAS on BFDIA."

"What happened?" OJ asked. I didn't really know what to say. I didn't even know what happened.

"I... Don't know."

(Leafy's POV)

I didn't believe Golfball when she told me that the red eyes were just a side affect. I knew something was wrong, but that would have to wait.

It felt strange to be leading Golfball through her own factory, but she didn't argue. We walked through a maze of machines and tools, guided only by the dim light Golfball had installed when the factory was built.

Finally,we reached one of the corners of the factory. It was mostly blocked by machines, except for a narrow opening just barely big enough for us  to pass.

It was a small space that was the size of a walk in closet.

"What did you need to talk about?" I asked.

Instead of answering, she handed me an envelope that looked really old and faded. I saw that the envelope said it was from Autumn and my eyes widened.

I must have stated at it for longer than I had realized because I heard Golfball tell me to 'Hurry up and read it!'

I opened the letter.

Dear Leafy,

I'm so sorry.

I've let my jealousy take over and now I'm being consumed by the curse.

I just wanted to be as popular as you...

Everyone wanted to be your friend. You are the nicest object anyone has ever seen...

...Now you are on BFDI.

You need to come home. Being on a big competitive TV show changes people, and not in a good way.

It's too late for me, but I hope I still have enough time to send you this letter before I'm completely overwhelmed by the curse.

                          -Autumn

By the time I had finished the letter, I was in tears.

I always thought that Autumn hated me. Maybe she did. I had never realized that she just felt alone. If I had read the letter before I had joined BFDI, I don't think I would have understood, but all that time I spent in yoyel land made me understand what it was like to truly be alone.

"Well?" Golfball asked as I wiped my tears. "What does it say?"

I shook my head. The letter felt too personal to share. Golfball must have understood, because she didn't push for more information.

"At least it's over." Golfball said.

But I knew it wasn't over.

At least, not yet.

Hey everyone! The story is just about finished, but there is one last thing that needs to be taken care of.

Also, I would like to know what your thoughts are. Any predictions? Suggestions? I think the next chapter may very well be the last.

Once this story is finished, I may post some of my old fanfics, but I also have some interesting ideas for some new ones. (they will still be object show related)

I'll get the next chapter out as soon as I can. So I'll see ya next chapter!
