Nico: The Door

Those words. Those few words changed my whole mindset in an instant. I grabbed the blacksmith, pulling him into my room and slamming the door shut. He continued to stare at me, almost nervously. I leaned my head against the door. "Saying he knows doesn't mean Will's definitely alive," I thought, trying to push my hope down. "Don't set yourself up for heartbreak."

"Where," I said finally, turning to face the boy behind me. "How do you know?" He bit his lip. "I.. It's hard to explain. Let me just.. Show you?"

Leo's POV (ooh~)

It was pretty scary to try and go to the Prince. Even if it was important. And now bringing him to my shop? That was freaky. Usually if the royals needed something, they'd send someone. Thinking about how crazy my shop is, even from only the outside, I'm almost embarrassed to bring him. But someone's life is one the line.

I remembered what happened. What I saw. I didn't know exactly what was going on and I certainly didn't know it was Prince Will, but after putting two and two together, it must have been.

"So what exactly happened? Tell me," the Prince pressed again.

"Well.." I fiddled with my fingers as we walked. "It happened like this..."

~Memory~

It was two nights before Prince Will was delcared missing. I was in the middle of making an iron sword. It was for the young guards who were still training and had passed the "Beginners" stage. I had to make twelve and I was almost done making the fifth. But I still had plently of time. It was easy. A baby could do it. But of course I did it much better than a baby.

I stuck the red hot metal into a bucket of water to cool, hearing the satisfying hiss and sizzle as the heat entered the cold liquid. Growing bored of this not at all challenging task, I glanced over and out my window.

"Hush hush hush!" A woman's voice hissed. "I said help me carry him, not alert the whole kingdom of our presence!"

I let go of the sword, hurrying over to the window. There were three figures moving outside. Two were carrying the third. One was carrying them by the upper body and the other by the lower body. "What the...?"

I watched as the two walking figures argued for a moment in loud whispers and hisses until the figure carrying the lower body of the third dropped the legs and hurried over to the.. Ground? "What's going on out there..?"

The figure pulled at the grass and.. A door opened. A little trapdoor like plank that was covered in grass, somehow. It opened and the figure still holding on to the third dumped the person's limp body into the secret little hideout before the two climbed in themselves, shutting the hatch.

~Memory Ends~

"I think that unconscious person was the Prince," I finished explaining, pointing to a patch of grass near my shop. I swallowed at the blank look Prince Nico gave me. He didn't believe me, huh?

"Look!" I huffed, desperate. I want to help and I can't do that if no one believes me! I reached forward, grabbing two handfuls of the grass and pulling.

The ground seemed to lift up as I did so. The Prince behind me gasped and rushed over to help, wedging his fingers in between the ground that lifted and the ground that remained flat. He pulled as I did and the door swung open, flopping onto the dirt. An empty hole gaped in front of us, which a ladder on the inside leading downwards into the darkness. How deep was this thing?

"Cover it again," The Prince commanded. "Just leave a mark so we know where to come back to. I'll get the guards."

"Do we need guards?" I asked, already in the process of closing the hatch. "There's only two. And the only one who seemed to be a true danger was the one who sounded like a woman."

The Prince thought for a moment before nodding. "You're right. I'll go down myself. Still, close it and mark it. I'll need some of your weapons though. I'll pay you myself."

I swear my heart just exploded. The Prince of Night, the kingdom I grew up in, was personally requesting the things I made.. Right now.. To my face.. I'm gonna die. My voice came out as a squeak, but I nodding enthusiastically. The Prince smirked. Then what he said next made me want to scream. "Okay. Thank you... Leo."

It took all my will power not to faint.
