Chapter 36
Mathew
Sentence(s) of the chapter- "And cook? No offense, but let's not have another fire," I said with a small grin.
We were waiting on the girls to come outside when I see Lilly walk out of the school. She looked upset, but it was too far for me too see. She was walking down the road, and I was about to go over, but Jess and Kelly got there first. I saw them both embrace her and I knew something was wrong. They stayed like that for a while before Jess came over to us and told us that Lilly was upset and was going to walk home. I then preceded to tell Aaron and Carter that I was going to drive myself home, and got into my car.
I watched as the two girls went over to the guys and got in, driving away. Despite the argument we had today, I drove up next to Lilly.
She looked through the window with puffy eyes.
"Need a ride?" I asked with a small smile.
"No thank you, I have two feet,"
She said, turning and continuing to walk away. I quickly sped next to her.
"Come on Lilly, just get in. It's cold outside," I said, feeling the cold. I know she was freezing, you could tell. I wanted to keep her warm.
"I said no thank you," she said as she stopped. She was still facing the other way, not looking at me.
"Lilly, please, just get in. Please," I pleaded. She stood there for a moment before sighing and walking over to the car. She got in and buckled her seat belt.
"Thank you," she said, practically a whisper.
"What's going on?" I ask as I start the car again.
"It's nothing," she says, struggling to keep a normal voice.
"If it was nothing, you wouldn't be crying or walking home," I shoot back with a small smile.
"I know," She said softly. "I need to go home, I skipped lunch and I'm starving," she laughs lightly.
I nodded at her, and turned the car around. I knew she would pick up on the fact that we're going the other way, away from her house.
"Where are we going?" She asks, looking at me.
"You said you were hungry, so I know a place where you can get food, and ice cream. That's what girls like, right? I mean, I know I like ice cream," I said nervously, hoping that I was right. That would be awkward.
"Yes, girls like ice cream. You really don't have to do that though, I can go home and-"
"And cook? No offense, but let's not have another fire," I said with a small grin. She smiled softly before putting her head on the window.
Before we knew it, we had arrived at a small diner that was across town. Her head picked up as we pulled into the parking lot. I parked and got out, opening Lilly's door for her. She blushed as she got out. I grabbed her hand and walked in, going over to the counter.
"What do you want?" I asked her. She looked at the menu for a second before ordering a small burger. I got the same thing.
I walked over to a table, her next to me. I noticed that we were still holding hands, but I didn't point it out. We let go though, as we sat down. As cheesy as it sounds, my hand was less warm.
"So, how do you know about this place?" She asked, looking to me.
"My mom used to bring me here all the time," I said. She smiled.
"I like your mom. She's cool," Lilly said. I agreed as our food was delivered to us. After the waitress left, Lilly asked me a question.
"Why are you my friend?" She asked out of the blue. I was confused.
"What?" I asked.
"Why are you my friend. Why are you so nice to me?" She asked again.
"You did something that, if I were you, I wouldn't have done. You walked up to me at the park. I probably looked like a kidnapper, dressed in black and smoking. However, you came and talked to me. No one but my friends talk to me, so I was intrigued I guess," I said, shrugging. "Why?" I ask.
"Just something someone said today," she said. I have her a 'go on' look. She sighed before continuing. "I'm used to bullying, it happens. So, when I over heard two girls in the library talking bad about me, it shouldn't have bothered me. I guess, they lit a fuse of bottled up emotions from when my mom took the boys, to the fact that people think that the only reason I hand out with you guys is because I'm desperate. Which I'm not, by the way. It just... I dont know, got to me or something," she said, explaining everything. I only had one question.
"Why did you tell me that? I mean, that sounded rude. I mean, why do you think that I won't make fun of you as well? I would never do that, but there are some people in this world that will. Why do you trust me so much?" I question, searching her face for an answer. She took a minuet to think before answering.
"Because you would never do that, and because you're... You. You helped me as I was being trampled. Through my crazy family drama. Because you never pressed me for information. Because you understood. I guess I'm just attracted to you that way," she said, looking at me.
"We're complete opposites. I, in society, would probably be classed as the bad guy in the ally, while you're the cute baby sitter who is loved by everyone. Total opposites," I said.
"Who ever said we had to be apart of society?" She asked. She was right. Since when do we have to agree with society. "Opposites attract," she said, looking to me with a smile.

A little after our deep conversation, we decided to go on a road trip. Well, a road trip to the park. The sun was going down, and we wanted to see the sun set. Shut up you hopeless romantics, it's not like that. Not really. Okay, maybe. Eh, it's totally like that. Just... Shh.
We sat next to each other as the sun went down. Lilly laid her head on my shoulder and kept it there. I didn't mind at all. We watched the stars for a while before I noticed that Lilly had fallen asleep.
I silently laugh at her childishness and pick her up, being her back to my car. She, to no surprise, was practically a feather. I gently set her on and buckled her up, making sure not to wake her.
I drove her home and set her on her bed.
"Goodnight Lilly," I said before leaving her there. She was adorable. Oh my god, I just said 'adorable'. Lilly Lycaster, what are you doing to me?
I saw the new Star Wars and dang.... Just. Ugh. Well, I'm going to sulk for the rest of the night. I'm sick and can't taste coffee. Coffee! This is torture! Welp, night y'all.
