Chapter 26
Mathew
I was so bored. So utterly bored. Mom left a few hours ago, and they wouldn't let me out of this god forsaken place. They didn't even give me a book. I slept some, but not much. I didn't want to be asleep when Lilly returned, but I had a feeling that would happen.
"Mathew? Oh I'm so stupid! I totally came in here and didn't... Ugh," she whispered. I heard her sit next to me and I opened one eye, scaring her.
"Sorry," I said quietly.
"It's alright. It's not the first time and definitely not the last," she said, making me laugh. She was probably right.
"So, what've you been up too?" She asked, setting her bag down next to the chair and turned to listen to me.
"Nothing. Absolutely, nothing," I said in a flat tone. She giggled and pulled out a book.
"I asked Kelly to ask Aaron what you usually do when your bored, and he said read. He also said your favorite book was The Outsiders. I brought it for your boredom, because I figured that's what you'd been suffering through," she said, handing the book to me. I looked at it, smiled, then gave it back to a confused Lilly.
"Read to me," I said, lying back down on the uncomfortable hospital bed. She nodded and took the book, flipping it open to page one. (A/N all quotes belong to S. E. Hinton and don't belong to me)
"'When I stepped out into the bright sun light from the darkness of the movie house, I only had two things on my mind: Paul Newman and a ride home.'"She started. I quoted the first words in my head, knowing them by heart.

"'Stay gold Pony Boy. Stay gold....' The pillow seemed to sink a little, and Johnny died.'" She said with a sniffle. This part used to make even me, sheaf a tear or so, but I was used to it now. "Gosh, you pick sad books," she said, wiping her face. I chuckled at her comment. We soon finished the book, and Lilly had to leave.
"Goodnight, and thank you. For everything you did today," I said.
"I didn't do anything really," she said.
"You kept me company," I said sweetly. She blushed.
"The boys will be wondering where I am and I'm afraid of what Kelly will say when I get there," she said, laughing. I just chuckled, which I seem to do a lot. I sat up and grabbed her hand, bring her closer to me. I kissed her cheek and let go of her hands.
"Will you come back tomorrow?" I asked. "We also might have to put our date on hold," I said.
"Of course I will come tomorrow. And just because your here, doesn't mean we can't have our date. We'll have it here," she said. I raised an eyebrow.
"You sure? I thought hospitals freaked you out," I said.
"They do, but when I'm with you, I'm not afraid," she said, blushing.
"Then I guess it's settled. Goodnight Lil," I said as she walked to the door. She turned around and flashed me a smile.
"Goodnight Mathew," she said. She then walked out the door, and I was alone.
I'm aware that this is the crappiest of crap chapter, but I will update again this week. And I promise it'll be better than this crud. Goodnight everyone. ...stay gold pony boy, stay gold....
