Chapter 23
Mathew
I didn't know why, but a smile never left my face. Even at home, my mother noticed.
"What happened?" She pressed.
"Nothing mom," I said, turning my back to her to make the food that was on the stove.
"Uh huh. Was it that girl?" She asked, making me smile. I guess she saw it.
"It is! Oh Mathew, that's great, but you have to tell me, what happened." She said excitedly. This was kind of awkward for me.
"Just... Stuff. I have a date with her on Wednesday." I said. She was overreacting too much.
"That's great! What's her name?" She asked. Okay, she's starting to freak me out.
"Uhh, Lilly Lycaster," I said, going back to the food. Mom gasped.
"You like Mike Lycasters daughter?" She said. Mike Lycaster, that name rang a bell.
"I guess? Who is he?" I asked curiously.
"He's a wealthy business man. When I saw wealthy, I mean it. Married to Maria Lycaster, another business woman," she said.
"Lilly works three jobs to pay for her brother who's paralyzed from the waist down," I said.
"They left after that accident."she shrugged. Lilly had been in an accident?
"What accident?" I said, turning my attention to her, but checking occasionally on the food so it doesn't burn.
"Apparently their daughter, Lilly, had been driving her brothers home, when something happened and they said she swerved off the road, paralyzingly one of her brothers. I think there was foul play though, because things didn't seem right. It's none of my business though," she said, shrugging. I turned back around to the lasagne, but still wondered about what Mom said. Foul play? As in someone rigged her car, or that the police weren't telling the whole truth?
---
"Mathew! Up!" I heard Mom say from downstairs. I groaned but got up anyway, seeing that I would be able to see Lilly faster if I go faster. I took a shower and ran a hand through my hair, quickly placing it in its usual spot, and going downstairs. I grabbed a cup of coffee, said goodbye to my mom, and went out to my car. I quickly got in and drove to Lilly's house.
---
"Hey Mathew!" Lilly said, answering the door. My eyes widened with concern when I saw that she was on crutches. Those weren't there yesterday.
"Lilly what happened!" I said. She rolled her eyes.
"Uh, well, I fell, doing something stupid," she said, trying not to laugh. I stared, confused. What could have cause this that it was funny. "I went to the park with the boys after we ate pizza, and they dared me to... Jump off the swings," she said, looking down to try and hide her embarrassment.
I tried, I really did, but I just couldn't. I laughed, flat out laughed. Right to her face. I felt kind of bad, but really? She sprained an ankle jumping off a swing. Good lord.
"Lilly, you cease to amaze me," I said. She did a hair flip like a popular person would, and opened the door wider for me to help her. "Where're the boys?" I asked, noticing that they weren't around.
"There riding with there friend today and tomorrow. They say that they, 'need to get away from me before I bite them'." She said, using air quotes. I raised an eyebrow. "It was one time!" She said, seeing my expression. I laughed and grabbed her bags, putting them in the back seat of my car. I helped her and her crutches in the passenger seat before going and getting into the drivers seat.
"All of the things we've seen and it's only 8 in the morning," I said, remembering the quote from somewhere.
"A Did you just quote Tangled? As in the Disney movie?" Lilly asked, giggling that I knew it. I cringed once I realized that's where it was from. This was going to be a long day...
Hey guys... I literally feel nauseous. Like sick sick. It feels like a hammer in my head. But I have to give you guys your daily update. Hope I get better, this sucks.
