Sentence(s) of the chapter:"Just asking, but those aren't your kids right," he said. I busted out laughing.
"No, no there not my kids. There my 6 year old brothers," I said, clutching my stomach.
I dont understand how people say High School is hard. Its very easy. I have all A's, I always do my homework, and I try my very best. People say im a freak, a weirdo, but I just ignore them and ball up those emotions. My name is Lilly. Lilly Lycaster. I have two little trolls, or in our world, brothers, and they are a pain. There's Timothy, or Tim. He's 10 1/2, but acts like a sassy 16 year old. Then there's Brandon, he's 6. He is the thing that gets me up in the morning, the thing that gets me through the bullies. He is my everything. He's paralyzed from the waist down. It sucks, it really does. I'm basically the one who helps him, who teaches him, who plays with him. He is all alone. Sure, there are my parents, but, you know, business. A lot of it. There almost never home and when they are, there doing something for work. They pay most of his bills, but they go up every do often, for extra medicine or something important he needs, and they never find out about it. I work two jobs and pay for that little bit. If I dont want to do something, I remind myself its for him. Its all for him. I cook, clean, do the laundry, and take the boys to school. Im practically there mother. When im not working, im focusing on my studies or helping Brandon. Im always positive, because I've noticed that he watches me and copies my actions or moods, so im always happy. Always. I never let him see me sad, or unhappy. I work so hard in school so that, when I graduate in a year, I can get into a good college, one that will help Brandon and let me do work from home. Get a good paying job so that I can pay his dues and still take care of our little family.
Currently, im in the park near their school. They wanted to play, so, here I am. Sitting on a bench. Reading a book for school. It intrigued me. Suddenly, a little girl walked up to me, holding a small dandelion you would pick from the grass. Its yellow became radiant as the sun hit it. I looked up, smiling at the young child. She looked about 5 or 6 years old. I marked my page and closed my book, setting it aside. I looked to the strawberry blond haired girl and she smiled at me, her two front teeth missing. She handed me the flower.
"I picked this for you, cause your really pretty," She said in a squeaky high voice. I gently took the flower from her hands and put it behind her ear, placing it in her hair.
"Not as beautiful as you do." I said, sending her a huge smile. She blushed then ran away to an older looking woman who I can only assume was her grandmother. I waved at them both and they waved back.
As I was searching for my two hooligans, I noticed a young man, standing alone in the shade of the trees. He had a hard face, like he was thinking about something. I also noticed that he was smoking a cigarette. I took my book and my small bag in my hands and started to walk over to the man. He had dark brown hair, and was dressed in almost all black. Scratch that, all black. Your probably like, 'Why would you walk over to someone like that?!' Because, I've seen him at my school. I think his name was Mathew, but I wasn't for sure. Once I got closer to him, he made eye contact. He seemed mad, or sad at something. His hard face never faltered. His lips in a strict frown. He looked like he was having a bad day, so, I did what I thought was right. I tried to make it better. I circled him, taking in his appearance. He looked at me like I was a wad of gum on a park bench, but that didn't matter to me. I just wanted to see his smile. He looked nice enough, so, I attempted to talk.
"Hello," I said to him. I held out my hand, but was rejected by a stare. "Okay," I mumbled. "I'm Lilly, what's your name?" I asked, having to look up. I was a short person, and he was tall. It's not fair for us short people...
"Mathew," he stated, making eyes contact. "Is there something I can help you with or are you just trying to screw with my day even more," he said, practically telling me to get lost. He's going to have to do better than that.
"You just look like you need cheering up that's all," I said to him.
"Well, it's none of your business," he said harshly. It stung, but my smile never faded.
"True, true. You go to Jackson High School right?" I asked him, standing about 3 feet away.
"Yeah, I'm in some of your classes," he said. Ha! I was right!
"I knew that's where I remembered your face!" I said.
"Lilly, Brandon's ready," I heard Tim say. I turned and saw him looking back at Brandon. He was looking at birds on the power line in front of him.
"Okay, go stay with him for a sec. I'll be there in a minuet," I said, sending him a smile. He smiled back, walking over to Brandon.
"Just asking, but those aren't your kids right," he said. I busted out laughing.
"No, no there not my kids. There my 6 year old brothers," I said, clutching my stomach. I took in a deep breath and looked him in the eye. "I guess I'm being summoned. See you in school," I said, waving at him. He shot me a glare and I walked over to the boys. I took Brandon's handles and pushed him away to the car, Tim right next to me.
I installed this thing on my car so Brandon's able to get in with his wheel chair. I helped him in and buckled them both. I got in the drivers side and started our way home.
