Chapter 6: Blessing and a curse
I woke up in someone's bed.
I didn't even have to open my eyes to know it wasn't my bed. It definitely was not my bed. It wasn't Syd's, not even Leah's or any in our house. Even when I was still half asleep, I knew that for definite as I have ended up in both of their rooms after many parties.
I pushed my head deeper into the silk pillow behind me attempting to get at least another hour of sleep. I rolled onto my side, now facing the edge of the bed when I felt movement from the other side of the bed. My eyes shot open and looked at what I was wearing.
I was still in my dress from last night. Thank fuck for that. I don't usually get so drunk that I lose all awareness, but I've still got to make sure.
I continued laying there whilst trying to think about what happened last night. Well done, Ivy! Get completely pissed and forget most of the night.
Fidgeting slightly, I twisted my body round and revealed who was in bed with me.
It was Calla. I sighed, relieved. At least I know that I didn't completely fuck up last night.
I lazily sat up, moving the dark grey covers off me while my arms supported my body behind me.
Looking around the room I recalled being shown around Lucas' house and this being the spare room. He must have brought us all to his house afterwards.
I let out a soft yawn, trying my best not to wake Calla up and rubbed my eyes.
I got up off the bed and instantly cringed when the disgusting feeling of the consequence of drinking too much hit me like a bus.
"Fucking hell. I hate feeling like this." I managed to whisper, my voice hoarse and throat dry due to the obscene amount of drinking last night. I tentatively walked into the black tiled en-suite connected to the bedroom I had passed out in. I turned on the light and instantly noticed the grim headache I had worsen. "Holy shit!" I cursed; the bright lights felt like they were burning the back of my eyeballs.
Feeling completely atrocious and unmotivated, I trudged over to the mirror and looked at my reflection. I looked like something straight out of The Walking Dead. Reeking of alcohol, makeup was smeared all over my face, mascara all around my eyes made me look like a racoon and my hair looked like a bird's nest.
Congratu-fucking-lations, Ivy. Real smart getting into this state, it was going to take me at least an hour to de-matte my hair and that was not even counting for the time it takes putting the many products in and everything else I had to do. Thick curly hair like mine is a blessing and a curse.
I began looking desperately through all the cupboards in the bathroom for products for my hair. All I needed was a conditioner without silicones or sulphates and a wide toothed comb. I usually have to use a lot more than just that, but I couldn't be too picky.
Not finding anything even slightly useful, I exited the bathroom going to raid Lucas' house for something even remotely helpful.
As I carefully crept past Calla, I noticed two bags on the red beanbag in the corner of the room. I hadn't noticed them earlier. I made my way over in the darkness, being careful not to trip or knock anything over and realised one of them was mine. Opening my light brown and white bag, my mood lightened slightly at the contents.
My stuff.
All of my hair products that I regularly use, a pair of my favourite grey sweatpants and my army green vest top and the little amount of makeup I own. I mentally thanked whoever saved me by bringing my stuff and walked back into the bathroom.
I fully took advantage of the high-tech shower and managed to do my whole routine before Calla woke up.
After being in the shower for over an hour doing my hair and thoroughly washing the stench of alcohol off me, I applied cream to my skin and got dressed. I remembered Lucas telling me that the bathrooms are soundproof and all have speakers. Tucking my vest top in, I connected my phone to the wireless speaker and played music whilst applying some makeup, attempting to put some life back into my face. I loosely put my crazy hair in a bun after running my products through it. Conditioner then comb it, scrunch mousse in from the ends, work a little hair gel in and put it into a bun. Perfect!
Lucas comes from a wealthy background. His Dad was one of the top lawyers and his Mum a top real estate broker. They both retired early after deciding they had worked enough and had enough money to support that, so it wasn't really that surprising when Lucas made his own business and makes a LOT of money each year from it.
For as long as I have known Lucas, he has lived here yet, his mansion still never fails to amaze me.
His house is amazing. I was stood in the middle of the hallway with a set of stairs either side of me. An expensive but elegant chandelier was hanging high up in front of me, catching the sun and spreading little rainbows all over the oyster white walls. I stood there in awe of the simplicity but warm feel of my surroundings however, the delicious smell of bacon cooking swiftly broke me out of it.
I ran downstairs and slid into the kitchen, grabbing onto the counter to stop myself. The combination of socks and shiny, laminated floors are a fun but dangerous mix.
"Morning, Ivy. Took you long enough," Lucas said looking up at me with a bright smile on his face. He was stood where the kitchen counters meet, texting on his phone but put it down once I came in. He was in jeans and a plain white top and his blonde hair was still slightly wet from having a shower.
My mind suddenly went to the absence of my phone but before I got chance to ask where it was, a green drink was forced into my hand and I got pushed down onto one of the bar stools.
"Drink that. It'll help with your hangover."
I turned to see Syd standing behind me sounding way too chirpy for my liking. Especially after the amount we drank last night.
"You look..." she paused for a second before continuing, "better than last night. That's for sure. Let me guess: you want me to braid your hair? Turn around then."
Sydney turned me around not giving me chance to answer before taking my hair out, parting it down the middle.
"Why are you so," I paused searching for the right word, "I don't know, lively this morning?" I looked at Lucas, wondering if he knew what was going on. All he did was shrug.
"I don't know what you're on about," Syd said slightly irritated. I noticed Lucas look back down at his phone when she said this. Weird.
I have known Sydney for the last 6 years of my life and one thing I know for sure is that she gets terrible hangovers. Not necessarily headaches but rather the groggy, unmotivated 'let's not move for the next 24 hours' type of hangover so when she was this upbeat, it was slightly concerning. I thought back to the last 24 hours trying to make sense of it.
She was drinking more than I was, that was for sure. When she said about her ex being there, she was one hundred percent wasted. No doubt about that. She does have a higher alcohol tolerance than I do though. Maybe she just drank a lot of water before bed?
No. We tried that before. It didn't work.
Not able to make sense of any of it, I opened the lid of the bottle Syd gave to me. With the drink exposed, I smelt it. It literally smelt green.
I sat there examining it for a bit. It looked like someone got a bottle, went to a pond, and scooped all that green stuff that sits on top of the water into the bottle. It looked and smelled disgusting.
Syd must have sensed my wariness of drinking the green slime as she said, "Ivy. Stop being a pussy and drink the thing."
I watched Lucas take the bacon out of the oven as I picked up the drink and downed it. It was slimy. I gaged as the last bit slid down my throat. Never again am I drinking something that Sydney suggests. Well, that's a lie, but still! It was easily the worst thing I had ever drank.
An ungodly noise left my body leaving Lucas staring at me wide eyed. I looked at him concerned as we both began laughing.
Lucas moved from where he was stood and reached over the counter, passing me a bacon sandwich which I immediately devoured. People have previously told me that I inhale my food at times. That's definitely not true. It's not my fault that they eat so slow.
I watched as Calla walked down the stairs looking like she had walked through a hedge backwards. She was looking down at her phone when I saw her inhale and her run out the room towards the bathroom. That reminded me...
"Guys, do you know where my phone is? I haven't seen it all morning."
I noticed Lucas look behind me at Syd for a split second before looking away again. Strange. "Yeah, it's here." Calla quietly said as she re-entered the room and handed me my phone.
"It was next to my side of the bed but I think it has run out of battery. It must have died last night." Calla explained.
I watched Syd walk in front of me and examined my hair. She smiled and nodded, letting me know that she had finished.
"Ivy, I love your hair," Calla told me, whispering. She must have had a terrible headache if she was whispering. Calla's usually the loudest in the room.
Syd handed her the same drink she gave me telling her to drink it before saying, "I know. That's because I did it." She looked over at me and winked before walking out of the room.
Slowly getting off the chair, I walked towards Lucas as he had a charger with him. I plugged in my phone and sure enough, it was dead. Waiting for it to charge, I decided to press Lucas for answers about Sydney.
I'm not stupid; I knew something had happened.
"Don't you think it is weird how upbeat Syd is?"
"What do you mean?" He put his phone down and turned it off, letting me know that I had his full attention.
"Well, it's just the fact that she usually gets really bad hangovers and constantly tells everyone to 'shup the fuck up' and to 'go away'. She hasn't done that once today. It's not a bad thing just really out of character," I said to him, hoping to see some sort of reaction on his face.
He laughed, "Yeah, she does. The amount of times I've been told that I'm 'being too loud and need to shut the fuck up right now or else'." He lightly smiled, looking distantly behind me remembering something.
One word: whipped.
I stood there smirking as he looked back at me. He must have noticed the look I was giving him as he blushed before saying, "Uhh, yeah. I'm not really sure. Maybe she just drank a lot of water before going to sleep?"
"Yeah. That must be it." I lied. I got everything I need to know. Something had happened between the two of them, it was obvious, but I'm going to pretend I don't know shit till either of them tell me.
I saw my phone light up from the corner of my eye. I turned around, picked up my phone while it was still charging.
The first thing I noticed was 5 missed calls from Jace.
I called him back and he picked up on the second ring.
"You called multiple times? Mind telling me why?"
"Only because you rang me first, Princess."
"No, I didn't. My phone has been dead all morning."
"And there was me thinking you rang cause you wanted to talk," Jace said in a fake disappointed voice.
"You know what? Forget it. Bye, asshole," I said into the phone and hung up.
Not even a minute later, I got a text.
I looked to see who it was from. It was Jace. I opened the text to see what he said only to be presented with a thread of texts, mainly from me. I looked at the time they were all sent. 1:41am and onwards. Shit! I must have been drunk texting him last night. I skim read over the whole conversation. It was mainly me but Jace replied every few messages. I went to my call history and sure enough I had called him in the early hours of this morning. Not once though. Multiple times.
Why did no one take my phone? They knew this was bound to happen when I got drunk.
Going back to the messages, I read the most recent one he sent.
I'm not an asshole by the way ;)
I replied with a quick 'sure' and left my phone charging on the counter. I take back what I said earlier about not fucking up.

This has been split into two chapters as it would have been way too long just to be one. Double update I guess?
I can imagine hangovers being so bad. I personally have never had one so I can't speak from experience hahah.
Anyway, what do you think happened between Lucas and Sydney?
Also, I think that I might start doing shoutouts at the beginning of new chapters so keep an eye out for your username ;)
Don't forget to vote, comment and share!
Thank you for reading :)
