The Ghost
Georgie sighs as she looks at the five year old she was taking care of sleeping peacefully. She had all the things needed to take care of her; the school didn't even care about her, which meant Georgie was trying to teach her. While researching the rest of this myth, allegory, thing.
Drea was helping her of course, but they were still exhausted. It was another late night for them and the clock read one. Georgie sighs being a researcher and a full time, single parent was hard. One of their pups which were still wide awake came up to them and whimpered.
"Georgie it's very late, you need some rest." Nala barks out quietly as Georgie just continues to watch Eden sleep from the doorway. The girl was so peaceful. Georgie was so glad the girl did not understand what was going on. Because what's going on has Georgie up almost every night pacing the floor or reading. She was so worried about Eden, Olive and herself.
.....
She debated on calling her friends, but everytime decided against it. They had their own lives, and Georgie knew right now that it was too risky. She wanted the support that her friends would give her, but also didn't want to drag them into her living hell, or get them hurt because of herself.
Georgie just looks at Eden one more time, before walking to her office where Pumpkin and Mira are sleeping and Drea was squinting at her laptop. Georgie sighs looking at Drea sadly, "We weren't made for this life. We were trying to make a good living and do what we love. Now I'm a single parent to a child that was someone I thought of as a sister, and basically an unpaid detective. You lost your job and we only got enough money to feed the pups and Eden. We barely have any food for ourselves anymore." Georgie says with a sigh and Drea nods in understanding
"How are we supposed to do this? They're counting on us, but I have no idea what I'm doing. I don't know how to take care of and teach a kindergartner, and I'm pretty sure you don't either. We're not some historians, and you are a detective, but I'm not. I was supposed to be a peppy makeup artist, and therapy dog handler. Now I can't even have any friends because I'm scared that they'll stab me in the back literally. And I can't talk to the one I already have, in fear of exposing them to the person who wants me dead. Could possibly kill them too… how did I ever think I could do this?" Georgie questions a tear silently sliding down her cheek. She missed Grace, and she missed Mr. Terrance. But here she was on her own. Everyone she knew was dead, busy, or kept out of the matter.
"Calm down G we'll all be fine." Drea mutters, getting up and squeezing her friend's shoulder before freezing at seeing a bright flash… She tensed even more when she saw who was in front of her. "Um G…" before she can get anything else out the figure speaks.
"Because you're you." She says, making Georgie snap her head up at hearing the familiar voice. She was finally going crazy. Georgie saw the figure and quickly grabbed her knife from her holster in her boot. "I've already been stabbed once. Don't you think that's enough?" The voice asks amusement in her voice as Georgie just shifts closer to the headboard looking like a deer in front of headlights. "You two must think you're going crazy, don't worry you're not." The figure was reassuring.
"H-how, how am I speaking to you-- you're dead." Georgie says as Grace shook her head no.
"I'm not dead, my legacy is alive in Eden That's how you're able to see me right now. I have been watching you both for the past two years, and I'm glad that you found the lead you did. You're going to save my family." Grace says as Georgie looks at the figure longer it was so weird and she didn't believe this was actually happening, but even if she wasn't talking to Grace. This was fine.
"Yeah, but we still haven't figured out how the end fits in with the rest and I'm running out of time." Georgie says as the ghostly figure.
"You'll figure it out, I know it and I know neither of you are going to give up." Grace says as both Georgie and Drea nod. Grace had that right. "You're taking amazing care of my daughter, ya know. I definitely made the right decision by asking you to take care of her. She is so happy." Grace says with a thoughtful smile on her lips.
Raising a child is hard. I don't know how you did it with twins for eighteen years." Drea admits as the ghost just looks at both of them.
'First off because I loved them. But you're also living a totally different life with Eden. You're being targeted and trying to help her family while teaching her as well. You're both doing great. I know it's hard and that doing this was totally unplanned, but please for the sake of my family don't stop. They need you to do what you're doing even if you're doubting yourselves. This will all be over soon, you two just have to keep persevering." Grace says as Georgie nods.
"I know, I was put in this situation for a reason. I didn't know it back then, but I am meant to do this, and I love Eden and your family like the one I didn't grow up with. I'll do anything I can to help." Georgie admits and Drea nods her agreement.
"And I will always be here for the both of you as well." Drea says causing the ghost to smile neither of these bright women signed up for this, but she was proud of both of them.
"That's why I put you in charge of her if anything were to happen, I knew you would take care of her. Although you had zero experience with raising children, I knew I could trust you to take care of her. And Drea I am glad Georgie has someone watching her back, thank you" Grace says as Georgie and Drea smiles
"I am and always will she's part of my family. And we'll both continue to fight for the passengers. It is my new job as whatever you would call me-- an unhired detective." Georgie says before noticing that Grace's figure had disappeared the only trace of her was the callings whispering in the air.
"Keep on persevering, until this is done." They just nod looking at one another was much more reassured now that she knew seeing Grace was a calling at least she wasn't actually going crazy.
"We will, for the passengers and for Eden. " they both say and nod before they get up and head to bed. "Goodnight Drea, we've got a busy day tomorrow." Georgie says and Drea nods.
