The Callings
Completely new chapter except for the end enjoy. Next part we meet Drea!
For months things were rocky and Georgie spent little time with the Stone's other than Olive. She didn't want to be in the way plus the family was fighting. They were fighting a lot.
Her home seemed to be a safe haven when these fights happened especially for the children who stayed there often even when Georgie was at work.
So she wasn't surprised when she came home one day to the two kids sitting on her couch quietly watching How To Train Your Dragon on her TV and eating her ice cream. "Your parents fight again?" Georgie asks while pulling her makeup apron off to put in the washer.
Olive just nods, "Mom, wants to split up with dad, but we don't want that! We do admit Dad is a bit crazy now, but it's well explained! Tell her Cal." Olive says and Cal just sighs.
"We have these things that us 828ers call, callings, it's a voice in our head, and if we don't follow them there are consequences." Cal says with a shudder, and Georgie just slowly puts her hand on his shoulder squeezing it reassuringly. She still wasn't a kid person, but these two needed her.
"What kind of consequences Cal?" Georgie asks quietly and Cal pauses the television for a minute looking at Georgie, and exposing a bit of charred skin and Georgie grimaces.
"This happens for no reason, and all I hear is to save them… In my dreams I see people being tested on… people like us." Cal says quietly and Georgie nods. She didn't quite believe all this, but if Cal was hurt because of it. She would do anything to help.
"Is there anything I can do to help?" Georgie asks and Cal eyes immediately look up at Georgie, a glimmer of hope in his eyes.
"Yeah I need someone to drive me. I can give you directions but I need a driver." Cal says and Georgie sighs she was going to be in so much trouble, but she trusted the kid.
"Alright come on you two let's go." Georgie says and Cal smiles knowing he was going to be able to sleep at night again soon.
……….
A bomb! Georgie and Olive both cover their heads as they took cover in Georgie's car. Cal in Georgie's arms. Georgie panics were the others okay! Was everyone out? She knew Ben had made it out, but what about Michaela and Jared?
So apparently they were supposed to come here because Ben had whatever calling Cal had as well, but Georgie didn't think it would be that dangerous. They had saved the people, but at what cost?
Sirens started blaring and Ben made his way to Georgie's car his being damaged from the bomb. "Georgie, we have to get out of here now! Michaela is going to the hospital. She's fine, but Jared got a good part of the debris." Ben says and Georgie nods slowly as she starts her car praying that the old hunk of junk would work.
She never felt more like a criminal she knew the police and news didn't understand, but always hightailing it out of there.
And this wasn't the last time either…
……..
Grace was pregnant, Georgie could feel it, not only that, but Grace had been acting differently lately and seemed to be gaining weight. Did Grace know yet? She had too right Georgie may have good intuition due to her empathic abilities, but she couldn't know before the person actually carrying the child right?
Georgie couldn't help, but look at Grace in confusion as she ate dinner with her and Olive one night. There was an abnormal silence as they ate the lasagna Grace had made. Each person in there own thoughts.
That is when Cal came down. "Olive, help me build my dragon model!" The boy calls out looking at his sister hopefully. The teenage girls just smiles as she finishes and quickly nods walking over to Cal before even being excused.
This left Georgie and Grace together. "Grace can I ask you something?" Georgie asks cautiously and the older woman just nods her head looking a bit worried.
"I've been having a weird feeling for about a month and it only happens when I'm around you…" Georgie starts slowly and Grace just gives her a look of confusion.
"Please don't tell me you're developing callings too!" The mother asks with a groan and Georgie immediately shook her head in horror she would hate it if she had callings they seem horrible.
"No, no, no I've always been able to tell when something is different, and this is one of those times… Grace, are you pregnant…" Georgie asks timidly she didn't want to offend her friend in any way.
Grace just looks down and sighs before nodding. "Yeah, I am and I'm thrilled the only thing I'm worried about is…" Grace started, and Georgie instantly knew what Grace was worried about.
"It's Ben's!" Georgie says resolutely and Grace looks at her curiously before getting the far off looking Georgie and her dogs knew oh so well.
"Yep definitely Ben's!" Grace agreed taking in breaths that she must have held. Georgie just groans she hated the callings.
……..
A few months later Georgie awoke to a bag of chips being crunched on, in the living room which startled her. First off she never kept chips in the house unless she knew Olive or Cal was coming over and second of all it was three in the morning.
She walks out of her bedroom quietly, her two pups following behind carefully. As she walked past her guest room door noticing that it was opened when it should have been closed, she gazed in to see Cal asleep there.
She next entered her living room to find her blonde haired friend Michaela standing in front of a middle aged man who was eating pork rinds in her house… "What the heck is going on!" Georgie asks glaring at Michaela she usually wouldn't care, but it was very early in the morning and Georgie should still be asleep.
"Another calling." Michaela says and Georgie crosses her arms and sighs sitting on her recliner letting her two puppies come up on her lap.
"Well, since you woke me up, explain to me why there is a weird man in my house at three in the morning and why my house feels like it's hotter than Arizona in here?" Georgie asks, noting how heated the room was.
Georgie, this is Zeke, he's one of us. He went camping last year and what seems to be a few days for him was a year. And sorry for turning up the heat Zeke was freezing to death so we needed to keep him warm." Michaela explains and Georgie just looks between them.
"Why my house?" Georgie asks curiously as she went to the kitchen to make some coffee. She wouldn't get back to sleep that night.
"Jared is keeping an eye on my apartment and Grace didn't feel comfortable with him. So I brought him to the next safest place. I'm sorry for waking you." Michaela says and Georgie just sighs.
"You're fine, it sounds like you had a crazy night. You know where the guest room is, go get some rest." Georgie told her friend who gave a grateful nod.
"Thanks G!" Michaela says gratefully, leading Zeke to the guest bedroom as Georgie slumps in her chair waiting for the beeper that told her that her coffee is ready.
…….
"Another bomb threat just perfect." Georgie thought to herself as she paces her house it was late in the afternoon on one nice March day. Another calling had taken place hours before as she and Michaela had lunch together.
Michaela was in a pretty crazy case including someone like them they called Griffin, but like Adrien he was pretty crazy, and was planning to blow up one of the most crowded places in New York]
Which leaves Georgie worried and on edge. So when her phone rings she instantly answers it. She hated callings and she hated that they kept on bringing back the crazy people.
Georgie's phone rang one evening while she was working on finding a new allegory book to find the curse in. Georgie just sighs hoping it wasn't Tessa or one of her sisters. Georgie did not feel like talking with them right now. That's when she saw Ben's number and sighs in relief. "Hello?" Georgie asks as she hears Cal's voice on the line.
"Uhm hi Miss Georgie, um mom asked if you could come over for a bit the twelve year old said as Georgie smiles and grabs her bag and leashes for her pups.
"Yeah, of course I'll head over in a few. Georgie says as she hangs up and starts heading to the Stone's house. Her two pups followed in stride as they quickly followed her to the Stone's house.
"Hey bud, where's your mom?" Georgie asks when Cal answered the door and sighs.
"Mom actually didn't need you… I just didn't know if you would come if I asked you to." Cal admits as Georgie gave him a smile she didn't understand why Cal was embarrassed to call her over everyone else in that family did.
"I will always come. So little dude, what did you need me for?" Georgie asks Cal who smiled before frowning and grabbing Georgie's hand.
"I need your help up in my room'' the twelve year old says as Georgie just nods following Cal up to his room where it looked as if stage five hurricane had hit it. Cal just looks at Georgie in embarrassment. "I'm sorry about the mess… but you really need to see this." Cal says sadly a few stray tears falling.
Georgie just looks at the boy knowing this was serious otherwise his room wouldn't look like he had torn through it. She looks back at Cal who ran over to his desk and grabbed a drawing he had seen of the future.
""Miss Georgie we're gonna die! This drawing is what the calling showed me!" Cal says quietly as Georgie observes the photo December 6th, 2024. Three tombstones sitting on a grassy land each one reading a Stone's name. Georgie gulped quietly looking at the picture. Of course there had to be a death date, of course. The callings couldn't make anything easy.
"Oh Cal, shh calm down its okay, there has to be some way to stop that from happening. You know we won't let that happen right." Georgie asks, pulling the boy in for a hug. She remembers Olive at that age and she wished Cal didn't have to worry just like Olive didn't need to worry.
Georgie looks around the room desperately searching for something to occupy the boy. Hey Cal, do you wanna build that model rocket you've been talking about?" Georgie asks as Cal immediately looks at her.
"Yeah sure, but what about my family, how will I tell them?" Cal asks as Georgie sighs, she didn't know it seemed to be bad news upon bad news these days.
"I'll tell your mom and sister you tell your dad, aunt and soon to be uncle okay, but not right now bud. Right now let's do something you want to do. They're not going to be home until another half hour anyways." Georgie told the boy trying to find a place to sit in the messy room. "You know what, let's go to my house. I have a dragon model at my house that you left. We could build that." Georgie offers as Cal nods.
"That sounds fun, come on, Miss Georgie, let's go." Cal says getting his coat as Georgie picks up his room quickly and follows the boy down the stairs, the pups following once again. Georgie just sighs, why did things just have to keep getting worse? She couldn't think to long on that though for Cal's sake she would deal with that later.
……..
"I win again! No one beats me at Uno!" Cal says as Georgie chuckles for the truth she was going easy on him. When it was her and Lily or Olive it was basically a fight till the death.
"You just got lucky." Georgie told him as Cal snickers, shuffling the deck of cards for another round.
"I bet you ten bucks I'll beat you again this time Cal says as Georgie nods, quickly glancing to Cal's drawing that he seemed to have forgotten about for the moment.
"It's a bet." Georgie says if losing ten dollars kept him occupied then it was worth it." That's when Georgie heard a knock on her door. "I'll be right back bud." Georgie told him taking the cards with her so he wouldn't try to cheat.
"Hey Georgie, is Cal here by any chance?" Grace asks worriedly and Georgie scolds herself for not leaving a note.
"Yeah he's here, he had a bit of a rough day so we made that dragon model of his, and now were playing Uno." Georgie told Grace who smiles and nods.
"Thanks for taking care of him. Can we come in.?" Grace asks as Georgie nods unblocking the door letting her friends in.
"Actually, we're just going to go back home. Ben says as the other 828ers nod at this point Cal had noticed gulped and went to follow them. I'm going home to mom, but you and Olive should totally stay and talk to Georgie." Cal says as Grace just looks to Georgie in confusion.
"Yes, of course I have something to tell both of you. Bye Cal." Georgie says making both Olive and Grace look at her like she was crazy.
"Miss, Georgie, what's going on?" Olive asks quietly as Georgie sighs a picture magically spawning in her hand, of course she had to be the bearer of bad news
"Well… Cal didn't want to tell you this, but he had a calling that was really disturbing to him. Um… you may want to sit down." Georgie says after the two comply Georgie hands them the drawing. "This is what he saw." Georgie told Grace and Olive who looked in disbelief.
"December 5th, 2024. We can't lose them again Georgie we can't" Grace and Olive says as Georgie sighs she knew they couldn't.
"And it won't, there has to be a way to break this curse. And I won't stop until I find it and that is a promise. Georgie tells both of them. She had to help them. It was what she was sent here to do. And she was going to help the best of her abilities. She wasn't going to let anyone die
Gosh she hated the calling
