Difficult Doubts
I'm on a roll today (mainly because most of this was prewritten. ) but I hipe you enjoy anyhow
Hey, hey, hey Georgie it's just me." A dog barks, making Pumpkin and Mira immediately stop growling and start wagging their tails. Their popping out of the kitchen was a small Yorkie dog with a light purple streak in her fur. It was Brook there other sister
Georgie sighs, in relief, "Brook how'd the heck did you get here!" Georgie asks in confusion as she puts her frying pan down as she knew the Yorkie very well as she raised them since they were young. Brook just wags her tail happily at Georgie. She had missed her owner greatly. For the last few years.
"Rascal finally persuaded me, I belong with you. So Lily sent me over with a note. She wanted to come but knew you wouldn't take kindly to an uninvited visit. She misses you ya know she sent a note with me it's on my collar!" Brook says motioning her head to the collar with a piece of paper attached to it. Georgie saw it, and ripped it off the multi-colored collar and opened it to read it.
"Hey G, It's me Lily, it has been a while hasn't it. Anyways Brook is all yours, Rascal decided that Brook should be with you. We miss you and send love to you and your pups text me when you geta chance.." The note reads and Georgie looks to Brook,
"You should have really just stayed with Lily." Georgie tells the dog who looked at her in confusion.
.........
"Dad, why'd you do that?" Both Olive and Cal ask in unison as they knew their dad was mourning, but there was still no need to treat Georgie like that. Georgie had only ever helped them.
"Because Grace is dead, and she didn't try to help." Ben says, putting his hands on his head. Michaela was about to step in, but Olive gave her. And then the seventeen year old went off on her father.
"Dad, Cal told her not to. She was already dead when she got here. She did what she could, which wasn't a lot. And her dogs tried to save Eden, but they couldn't. Dad, we know that you're mad and sad, We are too, trust me we could kill Angelina's ourselves, but you can't put the blame on Georgie. When she has been helping us so often. Listen, we all need to calm down, you're Mom's dead and Eden's missing, but we need to stop and think about what to do. Dad, again I know you're mad, and you're always in for revenge, but dad we need a plan, and we need Georgie." Olive says while crying as she was worried about Eden, and her mother just died. This was all so much and father being like this wasn't helping.
Before Ben could retort, Michaela grabs him gently, "Ben your daughter has a point, the police aren't going to help us because we're 828ers. Listen you need to sit on the side lines for a while and mourn otherwise you'll end up dead or in jail. " Michaela says trying to reason to her older brother
"But Eden's in danger." Ben countered,
"Yeah, but revenge isn't the key Ben, you've already been in jail twice, it can't happen again, because this time I can't bail you out." Michaela says having quit her police job after hearing about the passengers being targeted. And because Captain Bowers was tired of her not playing by the books.
"Listen, Angelina is a threat to our family, and I won't stop until she is dead. And you know I'm right when I say Georgie isn't helping at all. She just made it worse" Ben cries out in frustration. He did not understand why his family was trying to side with Georgie and not him.
"She has helped us every day. She has been here, everyday since before the plane landed, it wasn't her fault Pete died! He would have died even if she didn't help, and Angelina is crazy Georgie can't stop that either. You'll see that once you calm down and mourn." Michaela says as Ben shakes his head.
"No, we need to find Eden!" Ben yells out making the teens cower a bit, as they have never seen him this mad before. Olive could not take this any longer; she wanted to be with Georgie.
"Auntie Mick, I think I'm going to check on Georgie." Olive says at least she felt like she could talk to Georgie unlike her dad at this moment, and she needed reassurance and help. Plus she saw the hurt and doubt in Georgie's eyes when she left. She was hurting too and no one ever thought about her.
Michaela looked reluctantly at Olive but nodded, as She knew Olive loved Georgie like another Aunt, and she seemed like she was getting nervous being around her crazed father, "Alright tell her, we're sorry." Michalea says as Olive nods.
"Don't worry I'll make sure she knows that." Olive calls out before running to the door and heading to the house next door that belonged to Georgie. She also called Drea. She knew the detective was probably trying to find a lead on Eden but Olive wanted her too.
.........
"So you see my life has quite literally been flipped upside down." Georgie says finishing explaining the situation to Brook, as Brook just looks at Georgie sadly nuzzling into her.
"That's a lot to take in!" Brook barks out as Pumpkin and Mira nod. It has been at least now Georgie's smart pup was here to help now they could have used Brook years ago.
"It's been crazy. We really could've used your knowledge B." Mira says as Brook nods in understanding as she went to the youngest sister and licks her gently
"It sure does sound like it and I'm sorry, but I'm here now. What can I do to help?" Brook questions before perking her ears when they hear a knock at the door. Not feeling like dealing with anything right now Georgie just chose to ignore it hoping the person would leave her alone.
"Miss Georgie it's me Olive, will you let me in." Olive cried out as Georgie sighs, unlocking the door. Hey Ol, why are you here? You should be with your family," Georgie says, trying to compose herself.
"They're all just yelling at each other. I'd rather talk about it with you at the moment then help Aunt Mick, and Uncle Zeke find Angelina." Olive says as Georgie sighs still not really wanting to deal with this right now, but she could never say no to Olive.
"Get comfortable." she finally says before looking at Brook, "Hey girl there is a new mythology book I just got in could you start looking at that please?" Georgie says and before she could even finish the sentence the pup was gone.
Olive sat down trying to calm down"First off I'm sorry, for how dad treated you he shouldn't have..." Olive started as Georgie cut her off,
"It's fine that wasn't my first rodeo. That wasn't even the worst person. Trust me Olive, I'm used to this by now." Georgie says as what she said was pretty much the truth even though it wasn't exactly all truthful.
"Oh okay, well today has been crazy hasn't it?" Olive asks Georgie just nods. "I just can't believe mom is dead and Eden is missing. It's all so much to take in." Olive says tears are starting to flow down again. Georgie just hesitantly hugged Olive.
"I know Olive I'm so sorry this happened, none of this should have happened, but it did, and I'm so, so, sorry for your loss." Georgie says as the teen sighs. Both Pumpkin and Mira just nuzzle the other girl
"Georgie, why did all of this have to happen to us? My family says that it's all meant to work together for good, then why did this happen? All we have been doing is suffering." Olive says with a sigh tears kept falling down her face as she clung to Georgie like she was some sort of lifeline
"I know, I know Olive, but things will get better I'm sure." Georgie says as she sighed looking at Pumpkin and Mira who were lying on her and Olive. Brook on the other hand was looking at the newest myth book Georgie had gotten from the library.
"Georgie, when will it get better? We have less than two years left to solve this mystery. I can't lose everyone in my family. I mean Grandpa is the only one not in constant danger, and Uncle Zeke, but who knows what would happen to him if Aunt Mick were to die." Olive rambles out, Georgie just sighs,
"I don't know, but nothing will happen, you'll figure out the truth and like their callings say the truth will set them free." Georgie says as Olive nods. She knew Georgie was right e
"Yeah, you're right I'm sorry it's just a lot." Olive says sadly,
"I know it is, but we just need to take things day by day." Georgie says as Olive sighs composing herself.
"Okay, can we do something to take my mind off of this for a little bit." Olive asks as Georgie just nods. She knew Olive needed something to do to get her mind off this. Georgie needed a distraction too.
"Yeah sure, I don't mind, what do you want to do?" Georgie asks as Olive looks at her sadly obviously thinking. Georgie already knew what she was going to day though she would probably want to go to same place they went together ever since she was thirteen.
" Can we get some food then go to the park and eat? Kind of like what we used to do when I was younger?" Olive asks hopefully as Georgie nods. She then gets up slowly moving Olive off her.
"Yeah sure let me get my bag, you should probably call Michaela too for at least someone to know where you'll be." Georgie says heading to her room where Brook looked at her expectantly. "I'm going out for a bit Brook, you're welcome to come if you'd like." Georgie told her petting the Yorkie who was still looking at the book before yipping at Georgie.
"Wait Georgie I found something!" Brook barks out pointing to the book making Georgie nod, shutting the door for a moment, she then grabs the book in her hands sitting on the edge of the bed by Brook. Instantly looking at the name of the next myth in the book, and then to her pup.
"Brook this could be the myth we were looking for." Georgie says, before sighing. "If I'm right this could change everything... but I could be wrong again though." Georgie says sadly as Brook nods in understanding reading even when the book was in Georgie's hands.
"Miss Georgie, why is the door closed?" Olive calls out as Georgie opens the door.
"I must have forgotten to put the door stop in." Georgie says as she opens the door motioning for Brook to stay quiet about the information they had found. Brook just cocked her head in confusion before nodding not wanting to upset her owner.
"Wait, where did this puppy come from?" Olive asks, making Georgie smile, as she gently picks up Brook she knew Olive was going to love Brook she was as much history nerd as Olive was.
"That Brook she's four years old, and I raised her and her sister back when I was your age." Georgie explains as Olive nods.
"I'm guessing that a friend of yours brought her here." Olive asks, smiling slightly, forgetting about her hectic life for a moment. "Yeah she did. Now come on, let's get some lunch." Georgie says as Olive nods.
"Yeah, okay I'm starving." Olive says as Georgie grabs her bag and looks at Brook who just shook her head. As Georgie nods, heading to where the door was.
……..
It was quiet where Olive and Georgie were sitting. Both were just enjoying the peace and quiet before Olive started talking again, "What about you?" Olive asks quietly, making Georgie look at her in confusion. She had been pondering what Georgie had said earlier and realized something.
"What do you mean?" Georgie asks as she had no idea what Olive was talking about. The girl was so spontaneous sometimes which left Georgie reeling when random questions like that pop up. Olive just rolls her eyes.
"When we were talking earlier you said I'm sure you guys will figure it out, not we." Olive says as Georgie groans of course Olive would notice it. The girl was too dang observant. "So what did you mean by it?" Olive asks, giving Georgie a look of confusion.
"Your father is right Olive I have been of no help to you. And got you guys in more trouble. I think I need to leave the mystery hunting to you and your family. I can barely do my two other jobs right." Georgie deadly and quietly spoke looking at Pumpkin. Who whimpers, putting her chin on Georgie's lap.
"What, Miss Georgie, we need your help! Those past incidents weren't your fault. We were just too slow you have always tried, and that is what counts." Olive says as she couldn't believe. Georgie was thinking about quitting just because of what her dad had said. But she also remembered that Georgie had been going through a lot lately herself as her work schedule was crazy.
She always had to be careful and untrustful around strangers, and the Xer's and everyone who survived different things harassed her. She had to deal with crazy Angelina, and countless others. She spent most of her spare time cooped up in a library or at home. Trying to figure out how everything worked, and what allegory this was based on, and also spent countless nights awake trying to help them. Olive knew that Grace and Georgie had been very good friends, and she knew Georgie must be missing her too.
Even though she was pretty good at keeping her feelings under wraps. And dad telling her what she already doubted herself in was true. Was making her lose hope. "Miss Georgie please we need your help, you're so smart with this stuff, and the only one that can really calm dad down. Or beat him in a fight about the right thing to do. Not even Aunt Michalea can do it, and she's his sister." Olive says as Georgie groans.
"Olive I'm already in enough trouble as is. Plus who knows if I'm right. I'm not a history freak, I only know myths and I don't know anything about all this." Georgie admitted to Olive as that had been what she had been thinking when she accidentally got herself into all this. It was true after all. She just came here to be a makeup artist and a therapy dog handler not this.
"But you take it in stride. Georgie I know you didn't ask for all of this. But we need you, you're the only one who actually believes and trusts us. You're always willing to help us. We're all wrong sometimes, especially with this. Especially now that mom's gone, you're the only one that us 828ers can trust. Please Georgie we all need you." Olive says as Georgie just sighs, and nods. She knew Olive was desperate, but she was also right.
"Alright fine I am not one to give up on a challenge. Although this is the hardest challenge I have had so far." Georgie says, making Olive smile happily glad her friend was willing to persevere for them.
"Thank you." Olive says with a smile hugging Georgie who hesitantly hugged back.
"You're welcome." Georgie says before hearing her phone ring. "Oh I've got to take this." Georgie says as Olive nods before taking a few steps away.
