The Missing Sister
Jessica Knight was just trying to finish a case taking place in New York. What she wasn't expecting was confronting her past when family from an old life make an appearance
Drea huffs as the lady in front of her tries to get the upper hand in this fight. This wasn't working. They both had the same knowledge in fighting. Drea had one thing up her sleeve though. She quickly turned into a dragon expecting the woman to cower, but the other woman didn't seem phased and she herself changed into a spectacular blue dragon with some yellow and red accents. "What the heck!" Drea says in shock.
.........
It had started as a normal day. It always did, but as usual the Gem Keepers got a case that would change the brunette's life forever. "We got a case." Michaela says, causing both women who were working with Georgie's newest trainee dog to look up.
"What's today's case?" Georgie asks, leading the Bernese puppy to it's crate and Drea starts putting her bullet proof vest on. Any mission the Gem Keepers were on proved to be dangerous.
"Another dead petty officer in our least favorite place." Michaela says and the other two friends groan at the thought of going back to the blessed lake.
"I swear that lake is cursed." Drea tells her friends who once again nod in agreement as they harnessing up the pups.
........
"Did we lose them?" Jessica asks her/boyfriend. When they find a little shack to hide in. It was supposed to be a normal case, but then they got separated from the team, and the killer was tracking them.
"I think so for a little while. Now let me look at your arm." Jimmy says seriously sitting down on one of the stools with their two bulldogs sitting at their side. His girlfriend just gives him a glare. "Don't think I'm letting you get off that easily. You got shot, and we are not leaving until you let me patch you up." The ME says stubbornly and the brunette woman groans knowing she wasn't going to win this fight even though she healed much faster than a normal human.
Jessica Knight had a secret that no one knew except for her loyal dog, Jett. She was able to shift into a dragon at will. The dragon was part of her and she had to learn to control it when she was younger. Her father used to call her "Shǒuhù lóng," the guardian dragon. "Fine, but it's just a graze we should really get going." Jessica insists pulling her long sleeved shirt up so that Jimmy could access the wound better and she noticed the wound was already scaling over .
The
"It actually doesn't look as bad as I thought." Jimmy says wiping away the blood with a clean cloth he kept with him, and covers the wound with some gauze. Jessica just sat still as her boyfriend doted that is before hearing something in the distance. Jimmy feels her tense under his touch. "What is it?'' he asks and Jessica sighs.
"I don't know. It sounds like people, but not our team. Let me go check it out." Jessica says standing up and dusting herself off. Jimmy just gave her a look.
"Jess, we've been through this, I am not leaving you." Jimmy says and the woman just groans.
"Jimmy! I'll be fine, plus I have Jett with me. Please let me do this. I'll be fine, I promise." Jessica gently kissing his lips hoping that it would get the message through to him.
"Okay, but if you aren't back in ten minutes I'm looking for you." Jimmy says and Jessica nods motioning for her little bulldog to follow behind her.
......
Lasers were shot at Jess the minute she walked out of the beaten down shack. She and the dog instantly took cover. "NCIS, cease fire!" Jess calls out her gun in hand; she may have been part of REACT, but being on a lead team for three and a half years taught her to take shots more. "What the heck?" she spoke to herself. Her senses were on high alert as she heard something come up behind her and swiftly turns halfway so that she could see both sides of her.
She felt a kick and that is what started the fight. "Jett, get the humans, Luna, you handle the dogs." Jess whispers and the two gigs nod stalking farther away as Jessica looks around one more time before letting her eyes glow a bright yellow.
She didn't know what kind of abilities these people had, but she wasn't going to let them get the best of her. The minute she saw the other woman she took action both knocking each other's guns away. Knight didn't dare look away from the fight to check on the dogs.
They thought for a long while matching each other martial art skills almost perfectly. There was no way either of them was backing down soon. That is until the younger woman in front of her green gem glowing and she turned into a massive green dragon.
Everything told Knight not to use her abilities but she couldn't let her friends get hurt. This dragon could cause destruction. It was her job to make sure it didn't, right? She sighs allowing the dragon slash on her shoulder burn to life transforming her into a magnificent blue dragon.
"Whoa!" The two women on the ground say looking at the two dragons above them "Who are you." Georgie asks skeptically and Jessica looks around seeing her dogs conversing with the outsider dogs.
"I could ask you the same thing." Jessica Knight says with a snarl before looking at her pups. "Who are they?" She asks, looking towards the bulldogs.
"They're private investigators Knight, stand down. I don't think they're looking to hurt you or Jimmy." Jett says calmly and the older brunette considers it a look of distrust in her eyes. She was never very fond of PIs; they have messed up a few too many REACT cas es, almost causing the death of her team multiple times. So yeah she wasn't very fond of them.
These ones were different though they had abilities that went beneath the surface to their very core. Something Jessica knew all too well. They could be dangerous, but Jessica didn't think they would harm anyone unless needed. "If I turn back do you guys promise not to kill me or my friends." Jessica told them her voice hard.
"Alright no using our abilities I promise." Georgie tells her stiffly and Jess looks at all three of them before hearing her name being called and she panicked. Jimmy could not see her like this. It would ruin their relationship.
She quickly shifts back to a human, her hair is tousled, but other than that she looks normal. "Not a word about what just happened, deal." Jessica Knight asks her voice wavering, her team could not know.
"We don't know you, but your secret is safe with us. Now who are you? And how are you able to do that?" The younger brunette asks and Jessica nods.
"I'm NCIS Special Agent Jessica Knight, that's my dog Jett, and my boyfriend's pup Luna." Jessica introduces before looking at the three of them. "So what are your names?" Jessica asks before turning to see Jimmy run over to her.
"Jess, they're coming, we have to get out of here." Jimmy starts before noticing the three woman. "The Gem Keepers, it so nice to see you again." Jimmy says and the three woman grin one of the only agents that the three could stand.
"Hey Jimmy, it's good to see you. And who's coming ." Georgie asks worriedly before gunshots were heard and they all duck. Jessica ready to shoot.
"I'm guessing those guys. Drea take the back." Michaela whispers quietly and eldest of the three nods easily disappearing Jessica just looks to her four members
Jett go with her, and if necessary bite and don't let go." Jessica tells her dog sternly and the small bulldog nodes another shot was taken and Jessica barely had enough time to dodge it, and she feels a shooting pain from the same arm the last bullet was taken.
Oh well, she shoots again this time not missing her target. "He's dead!" Drea calls out and the other nods. She looks to her boyfriend who was sitting behind her. He looked okay, but she had to be sure.
"Jim, you okay." Jessica asks shakily and Jimmy nods, getting up so that he could look his girlfriend in the eyes. He knew she got scared whenever they got too close to danger.
"I'm okay Jess, you got him just like last time." Jimmy told her and Jess nodded slowly. She tries to hide her grimace when Jimmy squeezes the side of her arm. "But you're not where did it hit Jess?" Jimmy says and the woman doesn't reply. "Jess" he says warningly
"Left arm right by the other." Jessica told him and carefully rolls up the sleeve revealing another hole bleeding like the other was about half an hour before.
"Let's get you guys to a safe place until the others can meet. I have a sister that can fix that wound for you." Drea says and bothe Jimmy and Jessica nods.
"As long as you can get a hold of our boss then sure." Jess says she had no idea what she was getting herself into though. A situation that had been three decades in the making.
.......
The minute she walked into the house their eyes meet and she freezes a hundred memories flashing through her mind. The silence was tense before the man in front of her spoke, "Jess?" He asks in surprise.
"Daimen." She says with a coldness in her voice. Drea just looks in between the two older adults.
"You know each other." Drea asks in confusion and Daimen and Jessica just look at one another again and answer in unison.
"Yes,'
"It's a long story."
……….
"So who is she Daimen, an old friend, an acquaintance, an old fling?" Drea says playfully and wiggling her eyebrow as Damien paced the floor after Michi pushed them out of her bedroom so she could work on Jess without her being tense.
"Drea will you pipe down? It's both my and Jessica's story to tell. I want to have her permission before I say anything." Daimen says his face was hardened as he stares at the door.
He hadn't seen Jess since they shipped her off when they were six she lived with their great uncle then completely went off the grid. Their parents said she didn't want any part of them or that she had passed away. Now there was a stone cold look on her face. Apparently the former was true.
In that instant Jess came back out with her friend, what's his name… Jimmy hovering at her side almost nervously but at the same time very protectively. "Jess, we need to talk." Daimen told the woman. Boy had she grown into a beautiful woman resembling their mother greatly what was different was her slightly more muscular build.
"I don't have anything to say Daimen . It's been three decades since I last saw you. A lot has changed. I mean look at your family… It has obviously grown since I left. I met Drea once before being shipped away to great uncle's Jun is too young to remember me, and I probably could have been your imaginary friend!" Jessica says her voice is harsh but there's also hurt coming through it.
"I never went a day without wondering where you were and how you were doing. Jeez even if you were alive at times! I love you Jess that will never change, blood doesn't change, especially not shared." Daimen says equally as hurt at the implications that he'd not care about her and that she didn't want to be part of their family. "You know you could have at least come home to check in even Drea did that, and she is a lot like you.
"Well blood may not change, but the mind does." Jessica says in a snarky manner and Jimmy looks at her with a bit of concern. He knew when her replies got that snappy she was on the edge of a breakdown. Before she could unravel though she looks to Jimmy who meets her pained eyes with as reassuring of a look he could, "Jimmy try to call the team again to see where they are. I want to get back home as soon as humanly possible.' Jess says a sense of authority in her voice which Jimmy can't ignore.
"Yes boss, what are you going to do?" Jimmy asks quietly and Jess gives her boyfriend a small smile and although her body didn't want to be touched she longed to feel Jimmy's arms around her. She sighs looking out the window.
"I need to get away for a bit. Call me if Parker gets here before I get back." Jessica told Jimmy who nods he wasn't exactly happy to be hanging alone with this random family that he only knew Drea in, but he also knew Jess needed her space. Jess then quickly walks out the door to the spot where she used to hide away when she was younger Jett quickly follows behind.
………
"Okay Daimen what the heck is going on?" Drea asks her brother who sighs and looks at the chairs. Before sitting down and patting the seats beside him.
"Sit down, it's a long story." Daimen instructs his sibling who quickly does as told. Jimmy on the other hand shifts around nervously. Knight had slowly been telling him about her past and he knew enough by now to know that these were Jessica's actual siblings; this was really weird to him, especially without having Jess by his side.
"I've been keeping a secret from you all. For almost as long as I've been alive. Jessica is my twin and your older sister." Daimen started and Jun smiled a little. She was four when Jess disappeared and she remembered Jess vaguely.
"No, that's actually the same Jess! Now that you mentioned it I can see it now. It's hard to believe that I used to look up to her. I bet if mom wouldn't have kicked her out. I would have been way nicer to Drea and Michi." Jun says and Daimen nods. Jessica set an example for Jun once she left Jun's only female example was her mom which messed Jun up. But there was something else he caught when Jun had spoken.
"Wait mom kicked her out?!" Daimen asks in disbelief and Jun nods she may have been four but she remembered the struggle Jess had put up when she went with their great uncle. She didn't want to go.
"Just when I thought our mom couldn't get any worse I can't believe her!" Drea says with severe annoyance now that her initial shock wore off. Jimmy could immediately see that Drea had the same fire as Jess and he immediately wondered what she had to go through if Jess's life was horrible. What did this girl, her younger sister go through?
Drea then looks to the other, "I'm going to see if I can find Jessica. It sounds like we are a lot alike. Maybe I can calm her down a bit." Drea says and before Jimmy can suggest that wasn't the best idea Drea is out the door.
…………
"It's so hard being back out here Ren. I swore to never ever come back. I have a family. My father who I have finally forgiven, my stepmother, my younger stepsister. And my NCIS fam. Being in New York reminds me of the abuse I've been through." Jessica mutters looking at the scaled over dragon slash on her shoulder.
Thats when she heard footsteps and startled looking up to see the second youngest of Daimen siblings standing there. "So your my older sister…" Drea started and when she realized that Jess wasn't going to answer. She starts again, "It kinda makes sense at least I'm not the only black sheep anymore." Drea says, earning a glance from the older woman.
"Yep I was the first black sheep, I can't imagine what you went through since she actually raised you and didn't give you away." Jessica says quietly and Drea nods. Her mother had never physically abused her, but mentally was a whole different story.
"She mentally abused me, and put me down everyday of my life. When I finally got into training school she still said I was a disgrace. I love my job though so what if she still hates me. "So you work with NCIS, how long have you been working for the navy?" Drea asks and Jessica brightens a little.
"I went to college in Seattle right out of high school and although my dad was against the idea I immediately began at NCIS as a REACT agent when I was twenty one. I worked in that unit for nearly a decade before my team tragically died and they moved me over to the MCRT in which I've been working in for the past three and a half years." Jess says and Drea smiles.
"What's REACT?'' she asks curiously and Jess iles falter for a moment as she pets her bulldog pup. She loved being part of REACT, but she was much happier as a field agent.
"REACT personnel are trained in diverse tactical disciplines, including operational planning, intelligence gathering, precision marksmanship, breaching, hostage rescue, dynamic and covert entry techniques, personal security operations, and a variety of other disciplines. I mainly worked as a negotiator and i was dang good at my job." Jessica recites she was used to answering this question and since Drea was taught in police talk she knew her younger sister would understand.
"That sounds very stressful. I could never work in hostage situations. I worked mostly undercover during my time as a detective. Never once have i dealt with a hostage i don't know how you wouldn't have a panic attack on some of them." Drea says and Jess gives a wry laugh.
"Trust me you want to somedays, I'm going to tell you what I told Jimmy when I first met him. I've walked into hell more time than i can count, a bomber about to blow up a preschool, a father about to slit their own kid's throat… my team getting killed and me being the lone survivor… and it was my job to imagine a happy ending and make sure it happened, the only way to do that is to take every pain, every fear, and put it in a box." Jess says the mentioning of her old team bringing a few tears to her eyes.
"Come on Drea, let's go back inside I want to talk to Jimmy." Jess says and immediately the walls she lets down for Drea come back up. Drea quickly follows as Jett keeps a steady pace with his owner. As Jessica goes into the house that held so many memories.
………..
"We're back." Drea announced and the minute Jess came in she stood right beside Jimmy wrapping her arm around his waist. Jimmy looks at her with a questioning gaze and Jessica nods, giving Jimmy the confirmation he needed to wrap his arm around her and pull her close to him.
Jimmy lowered himself slightly so he could whisper into Jess's ear, "I got a hold of Parker Nick and Kasie are on their way to pick us up now. We won't be here much longer, I promise." He says and Jessica nods in acknowledgement pressing closer to her boyfriend. He was the only man she trusted this much, and even though she was sure her brother meant well she didn't trust him. Jimmy may not be the buffest man on earth, but he has proved to be able to protect her, and at this point she couldn't find herself caring if her siblings realized there was something more going on between her and Jimmy.
She has created her own family in the last three decades, one she could trust not to hurt her. A car horn honks and both Jimmy and Jess start heading to the door. Jun stops her though pausing in front of Jessica. "Jess, I know our family is a freaking mess, but please don't leave us alone again. We're still a family and we'll accept and love you no matter what. I have a son now and Daimen has two wonderful children. I can't speak for him, but I would love for you to be in my child's life. I don't know what happened to you after our great uncle died, but it can never replace a sibling's bond even after three decades. Please." Jun says and Jess sighs before pulling out a small card.
"Here's my card, call me but for right now we really have to go. Thanks for patching me up, Michi." Jess says still staying close to Jimmy as they walk out the door. The fourbother siblings watch them get into the car through the window.
A few minutes after they had left, Daimen sighs, flipping the old photo of a six year old posing with a six year old girl piglet plushie in her hands, and shows it to his siblings, "She always did say that one day she would exchange a plushie for a gun. Do you girls think she is really going to try and keep in touch? It has been thirty years, and she didn't seem too keen on it until Jun asked." Daimen says nervously he wanted to make amends with his twin, but he also knew it would take time.
Jun nods breezily knowing just like when she was younger that Jess would do anything for her. "I know she will." Jun spoke confidently and Daimen looked at his younger sister in confusion. He had no idea why she was so confident about that.
"And why are you so confident about that Jun?" Daimen asks the slightly younger woman who gives a smirk. She knew Daimen didn't think she had the ability to actually have been like by a sibling before they were all in their twenties.
"Because I'm her little sister and she'll do anything for me." Jun states as Daimen raises an eyebrow and her younger sister starts laughing. They didn't know what would come with the eldest sister but they wanted her in their lives even if she was stubborn and still hurt from the past she had to endure.
