Because You're You
Georgie sighs as she looks at the five year old she was taking care of sleeping peacefully. She had all the things needed to take care of her; the school didn't even care about her, which meant Georgie was trying to teach her. While researching the rest of this myth, allegory, thing.
It was another late night for Georgie and the clock read one. She sighs being a researcher and a full time, single parent was hard. One of her pups which were still awake came up to her and whimpered.
"Georgie it's very late, you need some rest." Nala barks out quietly as Georgie just continues to watch Eden sleep from the doorway. The girl was so peaceful. Georgie was so glad the girl did not understand what was going on. Because what's going on had Georgie up almost every night pacing the floor or reading. She was so worried about Eden, Olive and herself.
.....
She debated on calling her friends, but everytime decided against it. They had their own lives, and Georgie knew right now that it was too risky. She wanted the support that her friends would give her, but also didn't want to drag them into her living hell, or get them hurt because of herself.
Georgie just looks at Eden one more time, before walking to her room where Pumpkin and Mira are sleeping. Georgie sighs looking at Nala sadly. "Nala I wasn't made for this life. I was trying to make a good living. Now I'm a single parent to a child that was someone I thought of as a sister, and basically an unpaid detective. That is only getting enough money to feed my pups and Eden along with myself.
Georgie told the puppy who whimpered, nuzzling Georgie's hand. Georgie just looks at her newest pup. "How am I supposed to do this? They're counting on me, but I have no idea what I'm doing. I don't know how to take care of and teach a kindergartner., I'm not some historian, and I'm definitely not a detective. I was supposed to be a peppy makeup artist, and therapy dog handler.
Now I can't even have any friends because I'm scared that they'll stab me in the back literally. And I can't talk to the one I already have, in fear of exposing them to the person who wants me dead. Could possibly kill them too-- how did I ever think I could do this?" Georgie questions a tear silently sliding down her cheek. She missed Grace, and she missed Mr. Terrance. But here she was on her own. Everyone she knew was dead, busy, or kept out of the matter.
"Because you're you." a voice says, making Georgie snap her head up at hearing the familiar voice. She was finally going crazy. Georgie saw the figure and quickly grabbed her knife from her holster in her boot. "I've already been stabbed once. Don't you think that's enough?" The voice asks amusement in her voice as Georgie just shifts closer to the headboard looking like a deer in front of headlights. "You must think you're going crazy, don't worry you're not." The figure was reassuring.
"H--how, how am I speaking to you-- you're dead." Georgie says as Grace shook her head no.
"I'm not dead, my legacy is alive in your heart. That's how you're able to see me right now. I have been watching you for the past two year, and I'm glad that you found the lead you did. You're going to save my family." Grace says as Georgie looks at the figure longer it was so weird and she didn't believe this was actually happening, but even if she wasn't talking to Grace. This was fine.
"Yeah, but I still haven't figured out how the end fits in with the rest and I'm running out of time." Georgie says as the ghostly figure.
"You'll figure it out I know it and I know you p]aren't going to give up." Grace says as Georgie nods. Grace had that right. "You're taking amazing care of my daughter ya know. I definitely made the right decision by asking you to take care of her. She is so happy. Grace says with a thoughtful smile on her lips.
Raising a child is hard I don't know how you did it with twins for eighteen years." Georgie admits. As the ghost just looks at Georgie.
'First off because I loved them. But you're also living a totally different life with Eden. You're being targeted and trying to help her family while teaching her as well. You're doing great. I know it's hard and that doing this was totally unplanned, but please for the sake of my family don't stop. They need you to do what you're doing even if you're doubting yourself. This will all be over soon, you just have to keep persevering." Grace says as Georgie nods.
"I know, I was put in this situation for a reason. I didn't know it back then, but I am meant to do this, and I love Eden and your family like the one I didn't grow up with. I'll do anything I can to help." Georgie admits as Nala just watches in pure awe. She didn't know what was happening, but this person ghost thing didn't seem dangerous.
"That's why I put you in charge of her if anything were to happen, I knew you would take care of her. Although you had zero experience with raising children, I knew I could trust you to take care of her." Grace says as Georgie smiles.
"I am and always will she's part of my family. And I'll continue to fight for the passenger. It is my new job as whatever you would call me-- an unhired detective. " Georgie says before noticing that Grace's figure had disappeared the only trace of her was the callings whispering in the air.
"Keep on persevering, until this is done." Georgie just nods looking at her pup she was much more reassured now that she knew seeing Grace was a calling at least she wasn't actually going crazy.
"I will, for the passengers and for Eden. " Georgie says before getting under the covers of her bed as she looks to Nala. "Goodnight Nala, we've got a busy day tomorrow." Georgie says as Nala nods lying down beside Georgie.
