POV: Runningstorm
I was an apprentice when I saw a kittypet for the first time. I don't quite remember much of what happened before I was scampering off to the border of GorseClan, trying to evade whatever it was that was fast on my paws. When I had left the camp, it was about moonrise, but when I reached Twolegplace, it was moonhigh.
So much time had passed between the time I left the camp to the time I arrived at this strange place. Feeling exhausted from the chase, I searched for moss I could use as bedding. Maybe feathers would have worked as well. I was already considering sleeping on a tree branch when a noise startled me. The brown leaves beneath my paws crumbled when I stepped on them earlier, but the noise was of a different sort.
There was a Twolegden not far from where I was. I never thought to check it before for Twolegs that might have been outside or a dog that might have been sleeping on the grass outside. I could barely hear it, but I was sure that there was a small kit mewing for its mother. Knowing the warrior code, I began my search for the kit, either trapped or dreaming, in the dark night.
When I finally thought I had found the kit, hiding behind the Twolegden and too dark to be seen, one light blue eye appeared from its head, staring at me in either anger or fear. Then the kit stood up. I could see only one eye on this shaded cat.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" came the voice of the kit, or what I thought was a kit. The sound of the cat's voice startled me so much, along with the fact that this cat had one eye, that I turned and raced back to the GorseClan border, trying to get away from this creepy cat of the night.
"Runningpaw, you look as if you've seen StarClan! Where were you?" Hawkwing meowed as I scampered into the camp. Hawkwing was on watch, so it must have been surprising to see an apprentice run into camp after being scared by a cat with one eye.
"Cat...One eye...Ran away...Fast as I could...Twolegden..." I tried to explain what had happened, but I was too exhausted from running that I couldn't get the words out.
"A cat with one eye? At Twolegplace?" Hawkwing repeated, thinking over my words. "Oh, you must have seen Flynn!" he concluded. The warrior gave a mrrow of laughter. "Flynn is a kittypet who was born with one eye. It's normal to him, but I can see why you were afraid of his appearance. Don't worry, Runningpaw; not all kittypets look like Flynn." Hawkwing's explanation helped a little with my fright.
I now know Flynn as "the one-eyed cat".
