°•°•°Chapter 1•°•°•°•°•°•
•°•°•°•°•°••°•°•°•°•°••°•°•
Now that her mother had grabbed from her shoulder and started to shake her quite vigorously, Anuthi knew she was fighting a losing battle.
She was calling her name for all the neighbours to hear and it was going to be quite obvious that she was faking to be asleep. She had to wake up and stop her act.
"Anu..! ANU!!!
Wake up, you sleepyhead!
They have started the class already!"
Anuthi faked a realistic stirrer and began to move quite lazily in her bed as if she just woke up hearing her mother calling her.
"Waa..hai?"
She asked her mother though she knew the exact reason why she woke her up at four in the morning.
Like! Goddammit, why did the "Teams app" has a schedule of the classes so anyone that had eyes could take a look and see when the classes were?
Just see how brilliant Zoom was on the other hand!
It crashed 90% of the time and glitched, the screen stilled and flickered all the time.
Also, it did not give away any details or reminders such as what classes were there, at what time on which day.
So one had the chance to "mistakenly" delete the messages that contained the links to join and use it as an excuse to skip the classes.
It was simply supporting all the legend out there!
"Hmm... How did you not know that you have a class right now huh? Wonder how many others you have missed"
Her mother told her while giving the phone.
Anuthi did not tell her parents about the weekly classes as she hated them, even though she attended them and slept halfway after the teachers marked the attendance.
She had no idea why she chose the all-time hated subject " Econ" for her Advanced Level exams.
She was an art student and was free to do any subject she wanted from the given category and yet she chose "Econ".
"E" in Econ stands for evil!
She was not a big fan of economics or anything commerce-related but she was left with no choice. The subjects that were under the said category were Econ / Dancing / Music / Drama / History/ Social studies and Logic.
If she knew anything related to aesthetics then her life would not be so bland like this. Even though she was a drama queen herself, her acting skills on stage were terrible. When she tried to sing even the deaf would cover up their ears! And when it came to dancing she would opt herself out even before she is invited.
And honestly speaking Anuthi found history such an interesting subject.
She was keen on many ancient civilisations and was fascinated by those stories.
But not when she had to remember every detail about them and all the dates and years.
And as a socially awkward introvert with zero to no social life learning social studies came as a joke to her mind.
And logic was something that was magic to her. So she could not see herself doing that either.
So Anuthi happened to settle in for Econ.
She grabbed a couple of waste papers that were lying under her bed and joined the class.
She must have been the last person to join in as her name appeared right next to the teacher.
Well, that was embarrassing!
Let's hope Miss. Naomi is in a good mood today!
I mean the day had not even arrived yet so she must be in a good mood!
She thought while yawning, her eyes set on the pitch-black sky that was gloomy.
Anuthi thought so and speaking of the devil, right after she thought of Miss. Naomi, she called her and asked her to turn on her microphone.
"Anuthi! Good morning. I see you just woke up huh?. Didn't I ask you all to be here fifteen minutes before the lesson?
From the lessons she had learnt in the past she knew letting the dragon have her way is the best way to cope with situations like this.
So Anuthi remained dead silent. She could imagine her classmates laughing in humiliation in the safety of muted microphones.
"Anyway, so yesterday we began the lesson nine, which is" International Trade and Finance. So Lavanya, turn on your mic and tell me the difference between export trade and import trade. Hurry up without wasting others time!. "
Well, that was easy! Anuthi though as she repeated the answer in her head.
After Lavanya, there were seven more victims and as they were repeating things that were alien to Anuthi, her eyelids became heavy and she began to fall asleep.
Her head was almost drifting down from sleepiness when her name was called and her head immediately raised from the shock as her hear started drumming against the ribcage.
She hugged the pillow to herself with her sweaty hands waiting for the bomb to blast in her face.
"Anuthi turn on your mic and speak!"
Speak what?
Did she asked a question!
Oh for heaven's sake what the fricking fudge!
Anuthi's blood ran cold from terror as she turned on her microphone she bent down to peek under her bed to search for the papers she wrote on last time.
"Miss...."
She timidly answered not knowing what else to say.
"Huh, there you are. So tell me the difference between," Absolute Advantage Theory " and" Comparative Advantage Theory? " along with their given definition"
Anuthi put the pile of papers on the bed as Miss. Naomi was going on and on about the question.
"..... remember class, when you are asked for the definition you must give what is given in the teachers' guide. UNDERSTOOD?. I don't care what those tuition masters have taught you. Those easy ways all shortened definitions!.
Remember you get marks in the exam for witting what is taught and not writing what you know!. So study the definitions word by word and try to recall it every now and then in your brain.! ".
Miss. Naomi's rant continued giving Anuthi enough time to find the right notes.
Honestly! Poor neighbours of hers. Having to listen to her screaming in her high pitched voice this early in the morning would wake and scare the ones that are resting in peace even!
After repeating what was written without missing a single letter or an article, Anuthi earned a "Good" from Miss Naomi.
After muting her audio again Anuthi decided to drift back into the world of dreams. It was then her Econ teacher got a phone call that appeared to be quite urgent.
Seriously what is wrong with people.
Who the nocturnal demoniac feels like calling people at hours like this?
Wonder who that was!
Would that make the class stop?
Well, that would be cool then.
"Okay Class.." Miss. Naomi spoke and paused for a second.
Oh yes!.
IS SHE GOING TO STOP THE CLASS?
If so then scratch everything said above. The caller is not a demonic creature but a holistic one, a heavenly angel!
Please use your holistic power and adjourn the class! Reschedule it! Please!
She watched her teacher biting her lip quite curiously with an agitated mind.
"Okay, class I'll give you ten minutes to answer this question."
Her camera was directed towards a long question making Anuthi cursed in her mind.
_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-
Anuthi was struggling to see what is on the screen as it was flooded by the messages that were coming from WhatsApp groups.
So many messages were incoming all at once one after the other and Anuthi was quite used to this as it happened all the time.
So she waited for a minute.
And then another.
And another.
It felt like forever.
And then all the notifications stopped and she marked all the messages "read" and began to concentrate on the question.
"Both China and India make motorcycles and cars, what is given below..."
She was disturbed by a notification again. From the same WhatsApp group.
After a second another message popped.
And then another.
And another.
Anuthi tried to stay calm and collected but those people appeared to be testing her patience.
It was almost four-thirty in the morning and why were these people even awake?.
Though she genuinely tried to remain unaffected by the incoming messages, she failed.
At her patient's end, she decided to leave the group so that the messages would stop coming. But she felt like asking them to stop it for a moment.
She thought that they might respect her request and understand her situation.
*Oh boy she was wrong! She could not be more wrong about it than that! *
Therefore Anuthi replied to one of the comments there saying
"Can you guys like stop chatting for a moment? I'm in an online class and you guys are disturbing it!"
She did not think much as she clicked on "sent."
Only if she knew how that message would turn her small world upside down!
