Chapter 2: Hyper Heather and the beautiful boy

"Wait, wait, wait. Hold up. You're telling me that you've kissed the Alejandro Burromuerto, more than once?" Lily said with wide eyes. I told her what happened 3 years ago between Alejandro and I and what happened today.
"Yes. Why are you saying it like that?" I asked, putting more vanilla goodness in my mouth. Lily looked at me like I had gone crazy. "Because he is the world's attractive Spanish man, that's why. It'd be hard for you to get his attention,"
"But unfortunately, I have and he won't leave me alone," My phone began to vibrate beside me. Without looking, I grabbed it and hit the reject button. Alejandro has been calling me for the past 15 minutes and I'm getting irritated.
3 years and now he calls me.
That jerk.
"I know what you need," Lily wiggled her eyebrows, excitedly. I raised mine, unsure of what she's going to say. With Lily, you never know what she's going to do. "I'll take you to the party my boyfriend is having tonight,"
"Trevor? He has a party tonight?" I took another bite of my ice cream. Lily nodded. "I knew you wouldn't want to go but now, you do. You need to relax and take you're mind of Alejandro,"
I bit my lip, thinking. What have you got to lose, Heather, I thought. I sighed in defeat and Lily squealed. "Great! Lets watch a movie since its like 4 right now then we can get ready," Lily turned on the TV and we watched The Hunger Games.
****
"What to wear. What to wear," Lily mused out loud, looking at her wardrobe. I just sat on her bed, watching her. "I know ! How about this?" Lily pulled out a red tank top with a black mini skirt.
I began to have second thoughts on this party but I wasn't going to back down. "Yeah, sure," I mumbled going to my room. I opened my wardrobe and frowned. If I wasn't going for this party, I would be in sweatpants and my Superman shirt right now, watching The Big Bang Theory.
I pushed all my dresses, scanning which one would suit the occasion when my eye caught the one I wore 3 years ago. It was a black dress with a small part of my back exposed. It reached halfway through my legs.
Alejandro, my inner voice said.
The last time I wore this dress, I was with Alejandro and we made out for so long. I remember how he declared that he loved me so much, how long I was in his arms....
The whole point of you going for this party is for you to forget Alejandro, not remember all the memories you shared with him.
Tonight I was going to burn those memories temporarily, with the help of alcohol, of course. I slipped into that dress and wore my white sneaker wedges with it. I left my hair down and I applied no makeup, whatsoever. I knew I would get wasted so why bother?
Lily and I were out of that apartment by 7:30 and we hollered a taxi. Neither of us have a car yet. Well, Lily does but it's in the mechanic. I didn't pass my driver's test.
"Tonight is going to be crazy," Lily giggled as we got in. The driver rolled his eyes at her behavior. Lily stuck her tongue out and began to sing, just to irritate him even more. "The night is still young. The night is still young. The night is still young and, so are we,"
To make matters worse, she was sing off key and I was seated right next to her. "My goodness! Can you please tell your friend to shut up?!" The driver looked at me. I sadly shook my head and laughed. "I have to live with her," I told him.
We arrived there in 10 minutes and the driver sped off the second we got out. Poor guy, I thought. Lily must have scarred him for life! Lily and I walked on the pathway to see drunk people passed out on the yard. The music was so loud, it'll be no surprise if the cops come because the neighbors will obviously complain.
I opened the door to see many people doing things which should not be done in public. I shuddered at how it didn't seem to bother them, but that just goes to show how messed up this world is. There were people dancing to the music and when I looked over my shoulder, Lily was gone.
I sighed. I walked over to the refreshments section and grabbed a glass of alcohol. Tonight, it's just you and me, buddy.
I gulped down the bitter and burning liquid and slammed the glass down the table. It tasted disgusting, but I had to keep on going. I was on my third round when I heard a voice:
"Are you okay?" I turned my head to the source of the voice. There was a man in front of me, in a white shirt with a lot of designs and black jeans. He had a British accent which fascinated me. "Peachy," I replied.
He laughed. "What's a beautiful girl like you-" I cut him off and finished the sentence for him, while rolling my eyes.
"Doing in a place like this? Don't use that line on me," I glanced over at my cup to see it was empty.
"Forget this," I said and I grabbed the bottle and took a swig. "Are you trying to get drunk?" The beautiful boy asked. "Why? What's it to you?" I shot, after taking another swig. I tried to look at his face but my vision was blurry so I couldn't see much.
The boy chuckled. "What's your name?" He asked me.
"Heather," I answered, taking another drink.
"I'm Edward," He said.
"That's a pretty name," I giggled. Finally, the alcohol was affecting me because I don't giggle, I snort. Edward was amused. "Thank you. So why are you here?"
"Well, my friend brought me here but I've lost her," I answered, putting the bottle down.
"Who's your friend?" He folded his arms, his muscles enlarging.
"Well, she's a girl. She's got hair. And eyes. And a nose. Oh, yes! She has ears, too,"
"I'm pretty sure every girl here has that, sweetheart,"
I frowned. "I'm not your sweetheart. Are you sassing me?"
"Yes. What are you going to do about it?" He arched an eyebrow.
"I'll beat you up," I began to slap his shoulders when my hand landed on his bicep and I began to feel them. I looked like a kid, fascinated by a toy. "You have huge muscles," I blurted out.
"Thank you. So, do you want to go outside with me?"
"You're asking me out?"
"No, no, Heather. I meant outside. Outside the house,"
"Ooh," I giggled again. "Okie-dokie,"
I began to stagger around because my vision was blurry and I was seeing double. I nearly tripped over my own foot when I felt an arm wrap around my waist, leading me out of the house.
"Hey, get your hands off me. I'll call my friend and she'll bring her boyfriend to beat you up," I whined.
"Just relax. I'm not going to hurt you," Edward's silky, smooth voice told me.
"Promise?" I looked up at him.
"Pinky promise," He said, smiling down at me. He was close to me so I could see his pearly white teeth.
Suddenly, my stomach gurgled, bile rose to my throat. "I don't feel so good-" I ran to the nearest bush and threw up. I felt a hand on my back, holding up my hair.
"Heather! Oh my gosh," A girl said.
"You know her?" Asked Edward.
"Yes. I brought her to the party," The girl answered.
"I'll take it from here," The girl said, switching positions with Edward. "There, there Heather. Let it out," The girl patted my back as green vomit escaped my mouth.
****
Waking up was easier said than done.
I got up on my bed, still in my party clothes. I sat on my bed for 10 good seconds, before a horrible pain came from the back of my had. I cried out in pain and cursed under my breath.
What was I thinking when I decided to get drunk? Answer, I wasn't thinking at all.
I groaned and glanced at the clock. 10:45 am. I saw a note stuck to the drawer beside two aspirins and water.
I left to go look for a job. You had one nasty hangover by the time we came home, because you passed out on the ride home :P Anyways, I left for you some aspirins and water on the drawer. You're welcome.
Alejandro texted you saying he wants you in his office at 11 am if you still want the job. I had to check your phone because it was vibrating so much, it was pissing me off.
So just in case you want to go, I left an outfit and shoes on the left side of the bed. See you later.
-L
Of course I want the job! I threw the aspirins in my mouth and gulped down the water. I ran into the bathroom and did a quick shower. I put on the outfit Lily laid out for me: A black, pencil dress with a pair of flats. It was simple and comfortable and I thanked God for an awesome friend.
I didn't bother to eat because it would waste time and I had less than 10 minutes to go to the office. I went with another taxi to the building and I ran into the building, after tossing him the money.
I walked up to the reception lady, panting. "I'd like to see Mr Burromuerto," I said in between breaths. The same lady from yesterday looked at me up and down. She popped her gum before picking up the phone and dialing a number.
"Sir, someone wants to see you," The lady said. "Yes. She's a girl. Name?" She turned to me. "Heather," I answered.
"Heather. Uh-huh. Got it," The lady put the receiver down and looked at me, straight in the eye. "Mr Burromuerto wants you to go to his office. I'm sure you know where it is,"
The lady turned back to the computer and ignored me after that. I walked past the waiting area and stopped in front of the door with the sign 'CEO'. I took a deep breath and knocked on the door.
"Come in," I heard from the other side of the door. Slowly, I opened the door and shut it behind me. Alejandro was looking at me, sitting there with his perfect white, long-sleeved shirt and his red tie. It made me want to spit.
"Let's get this straight, Mr Burromuerto," My voice strained on his surname. "I'm here because I need a job really badly. Not because I felt bad for yesterday,"
"I understand Miss Santos," He said. "Have a seat," He gestured to the chair. I went and sat down, putting my right leg over my left leg. "I want to tell you what you will do as my personal assistant. You will answer all my phone calls, you will type the work that I give you and you will follow me wherever I go, whether it is a meeting or out of the country, got it?"
I nodded, staring blankly at him.
"I never thought I'd see the day that you would work for me," Alejandro said, snickering.
I narrowed my eyes. "I'm only here for the money. Speaking of which, how often do I get paid?"
"Every month," Alejandro answered me. "You will also have your own office," I nodded, and tried to avoid looking into his eyes.
"Can I ask a question before I leave? Do I have to call you Mr Burromuerto?" I asked.
Alejandro's eyes widened and he laughed. "No. You don't have to, but you have to address me properly,"
"Oh thank God. If I said it one more time, I would have thrown up. Can I leave now?" I said, impatiently.
"Sure. Let me just escort you to your office," Alejandro stood up and opened the door for me. "I can open a door, you know," I said, trotting behind him after he closed the door and began to walk.
"Yes I do," Alejandro said and opened a door. The door revealed a normal office; It had a coffee- brown desk, a computer, a black phone, a white printer and all office supplies. It was painted white and the shades were up. The rug was brown and silky. All the stuff here looked really expensive.
"Here's your work. Type out these documents for me and tell me when you're going for your break. Quitting hour is at 1700 hours," Alejandro told me as I sat and span around in my chair, like a kid.
"You mean 5 pm," I said, looking at him.
"Yes. I mean 5 pm. Now get to work," Alejandro said in a commanding tone.
I obeyed and turned on the computer. I heard footsteps and the door slam. I can't believe I went from a glamorous model, to a personal assistant. If the people I was with in Total Drama (the TV show I was casted in) were here, they would laugh at me.
Especially Chris, Leshwana and Gwen.
How I hate those three.
I opened Microsoft Word and opened the ginormous, green booklet Alejandro left me with and sighed at the number of pages.
It'd take me ages to type this. Why couldn't he just photocopy the booklet? It would make things less complicated for the both of us.
I sighed as I began to type on the keyboard, at 40 words per minute.
****
At 1 o'clock, my stomach began to rumble. I was starving and if I don't eat soon, I'll probably pass out. I hit Save before minimizing the window and turning off the screen.
I barged in to Alejandro's office because I didn't really care about knocking. Sure, he's my boss but that doesn't mean that I have to be nice to him. I just do what he tells me and that's it.
My eyes widened because I saw his lips connected with the reception lady's. At the rate this was going, I don't say something now, I would be temporarily blindsided. 'Temporarily' because after I would go for intense therapy.
"Ahem!" I cleared my throat. Alejandro stopped immediately and sat up. The reception lady looked pissed off because Alejandro stopped and she sent a glare my way. I faked an apology smile at her.
"Look, I don't care about what you two are doing. You can do whatever you want for as long as you want, for all I care. I'm just here to say that I'm going on my break," I slammed the door shut and walked off.
But deep down, I was hurt to have encountered Alejandro in the arms of another woman. I shook that feeling off, while wondering around to find a vending machine.
"Lost?" A male voice said. It sounded really familiar. I whipped my head to the sound and saw a really hot guy in a suit, his black hair gelled to perfection, his chiseled face, his brown eyes boring into mine, and his perfect lips smiling at me. "Heather?" He asked.
"I'm sorry. Have I seen you before? You look really familiar," I stopped gawking at the man.
"You don't remember me? I told you my name and you said it was pretty," The man grinned at me.
Pretty? Then immediately I remembered last night and his name appeared in my head. "Edward?" I squeaked. "I'm sorry. I was tipsy last night,"
"Yeah, I know," Edward ran his hand through his soft hair. "You didn't answer my question. Are you lost?" Edward repeated.
Yes I am lost. Lost in your eyes.
"Yes. Could you direct me to the cafeteria or the nearest vending machine?" I tucked my hair behind my ears. "Sure. I was actually heading there,"
I walked beside him, as he led me to the cafeteria where everyone else was eating. They didn't bother to notice me, thank God. I got myself a ham and cheese sandwich with some Coke.
Edward just sat and watched me. "Are you going to stare at me like that the while time I eat?" I said, feeling uncomfortable. "Or am I that attractive to you?"
"Shut up. So Heather, how old are you?"
I replied, before I took a bite of my sandwich. "I'm 20,"
"Cool. What job do you have here?" Edward asked.
"I'm Alejandro's personal assistant," I said.
"Alejandro?" Edward looked confused. I sighed and rolled my eyes. "Mr Burromuerto," I corrected myself.
Edward then caught on. "Typical,"
"What?" I said, looking confused this time.
"It's obvious your his personal assistant,"
"What do you mean?"
"Alejandro would always hire girls with...," He trailed off, once he saw the look on my face. "Hourglass bodies,"
I nearly choked on my sandwich. "Thank you for the indirect compliment but why would he do that?"
"To mess around with," Edward said like it was the most obvious thing in the world.
Again, I nearly choked on my sandwich and for my safety I put it down. "What?"
Edward's eyes widened. "You never knew? Then once he's bored with them, he fires them and looks for someone new,"
So that's why girls came with short skirts and tight tops, yesterday. That is just wrong. Why on earth would want to be Alejandro's form of 'entertainment'?
Because he's the most gorgeous Spanish man alive, hello? My inner voice answered.
"He can't do that to me. We were friends before," I said.
"You were mates?" Edward asked bewildered.
"Were. Things changed,"
Edward snickered. "This is golden. You're going to become friends with --"
I cut him off. "Yuck, no. I'd never do such a thing with him. He's a bastard,"
"That's a first. All the other women say the opposite thing,"
"Well, I'm not like other women, now am I?" I folded my arms.
"No," Edward's lips pressed into a line. "I've never had anyone tell me that my name is pretty,"
"Shut up," I blushed. "Tell me more about Alejandro's past personal assistants,"
****
At 5, I was more than happy to leave the building. I hate working here. On my way out, I bumped into Edward.
"What's the rush for? Too excited to leave?" Edward teased.
"Is it that obvious?" I joked.
Edward chuckled.
"The sooner I leave here, the better. I hate this place and all the people in it," I sighed.
"Including me?" Edward said in a childish voice.
"Yes. Including you," I smiled.
"That hurt right here," Edward pointed to his muscular chest, where his heart was. "Give me your phone," Edward commanded.
"Why?" I asked but I handed it to him anyway. "
"I'm giving you my number so that you can apologize,"
I rolled my eyes. "I'm not apologizing," Edward smirked at me.
"We'll see. You can't stay mad at me for too long,"
"We'll see indeed. Bye," I said, before giving him a quick hug. As I embraced Edward, I saw Alejandro staring at us and his green eyes flickered something that made me smile: jealousy. When he caught me smiling at him, he pretended to look around before walking to the reception lady.
An evil grin made a way to my face. Remember how I said I hated working here? Well, things just got a whole lot interesting for me.
