[2]: We Need You
2018 ― Somewhere in Europe
"Mom, you and Dad fought, and it was physical, and it was bad. . and sure you've talked about it, but I don't think you two truly worked through it."
It was an understatement to say the last two years have been rough.
Katherine Rogers, her husband Steve Rogers, and her children Amaya and Christian along with Sam Wilson, Wanda Maximoff, and Natasha Romanoff were all fugitives. Since Natasha let Steve, Katherine and Bucky leave two years ago in Germany to go find Zemo, she was labeled a fugitive as well for helping them. Katherine's kids had the full mental and physical capacity of young adults, around the age of 21, even though they were only born 4 years ago.
It was crazy for Katherine that her kids grew so fast in four years, she felt like she didn't get a chance to raise them. The last two years have also been a bit rough on her marriage. After physically fighting Steve in defense of Tony, it was something that they were still working through. Katherine got over her initial anger, and Steve finally got to a place where he understood why she was against him at that moment, but even their kids could notice the distance that was growing between them, and they hated it. Katherine could feel it.
And she hated it too.
Being underground was taking a toll on all of them. Natasha dyed her hair blonde, which Katherine liked, but, she preferred the red, she thought it suited her better. Steve had grown out a beard, which Katherine actually thought was sexy, she loved it. Katherine put highlights in her hair and cut it, although it was starting to grow back. Her son had a bit of a beard coming in, and everyone had changed so much in two years.
In a lot of ways, they had to.
The Rogers family along with Wanda and Sam have been doing missions, off the books, under the radar. Natasha went back to Budapest and she called Nikita to join her. The sisters reunited with the ghosts from their past, but it turned out that it was something they needed to stop avoiding and they were now stronger because of it. Once they had defeated the Red Room, Nikita and Natasha helped Steve and Katherine break Amaya, Christian, Clint, Scott, Wanda, and Sam out of the Raft prison, and then Nikita went back on her quest to find Thor.
Steve couldn't just give up on helping people just because he didn't want to play by the rules. It was just the six of them whenever Wanda and Christian were with them. Clint and Scott Lang went back to their families. They cut a deal and were on house arrest. Katherine knew Clint would be okay because no one knew where he lived except for The Avengers and Nick Fury.
Wanda had gone off the grid with Christian, which they do occasionally. Katherine and Steve are fine with it, they're in love, she wouldn't want to separate them. She just asks that Wanda and Christian check in from time to time so she knows that they're okay.
"Hey." Katherine looked up seeing that Natasha was sitting down across from her. After she left Budapest, she came back. Katherine said she didn't have to talk about it if she didn't want to, but she did. Natasha and Nikita, before Nikita left, they told Katherine everything. Since Katherine had been investigating Dreykov and Alexei before, they thought she deserved to know how everything went down.
Katherine was shocked to learn that the Red Room had still been active. Just like Nikita and Natasha, Katherine thought when they left Budapest that was the end of Dreykov and the Red Room. Even though the girls told her not to, she did slightly blame herself. Katherine said she should've known Dreykov wouldn't be that easy to kill and she should've known the Red Room was still active.
Katherine knew about Yelena. When Natasha and Nikita came to S.H.I.E.L.D., once they were comfortable enough with Katherine, they did tell her about Nikita and how it was them in Ohio with Melina and Alexei, they were living undercover as a family. They told Katherine everything, and Nikita said that Katherine and Yelena would probably get along because they're very similar.
To which Katherine said she would love to meet their sister one day.
They were currently in a safehouse that Fury helped them acquire. Katherine was sick of staying in the run-down hotels they had to be in because they were fugitives. She doesn't stay in touch with many people, because she can't. She's a wanted fugitive, but she never talks to Fury unless he contacts her first.
"Hey, Nat," Katherine said with a small smile on her face. Natasha laid her hand down on her friend's arm and gently rubbed it with her thumb. Natasha, most of all hated seeing Katherine hurt like this. She knew she was hurt because she was bottling up her feelings about what happened with Steve. Natasha could see the physical toll it was taking on her.
"Are you okay?" She asked.
"Aren't I always?" Katherine said back, and Natasha rolled her eyes, before picking up the coffee cup from the table she had brought for her.
"Steve made you a cup," Natasha said. Katherine gave her a grateful smile before taking the cup and taking a small sip so she didn't burn her tongue.
"Why couldn't Steve come to give it to me himself?" She asked.
"I offered," Natasha said, and Katherine laughed a little.
"Do you know where he is?" She asked.
"I think he and Sam are you know, sparring. Are you two going to be okay?" Natasha asked.
"Nat... we are okay," Katherine said.
"No, you're not, Mom." The girls heard a new voice and looked up to see that Amaya had walked into the room, and she sat down with the two of them. "Sorry, I wasn't eavesdropping, I was about to ask you if you wanted to make dinner with me, but... Mom, you and Dad fought, and it was physical, and it was bad... and sure you've talked about it, but I don't think you two truly worked through it." Amaya said.
Katherine sighed while taking another sip of her coffee before setting it down and turning to her daughter. She moved some of her hair behind her ear and frowned. "I think you're right, honey. But don't worry about it, okay? I love your Dad, more than I have ever loved anyone in this world. So we will be okay, got me?" Katherine said, and Amaya nodded her head.
"Okay, Mom." She said with a smile on her face. Katherine leaned forward and kissed her forehead before Amaya stood up from the couch and walked away. The youngest Rogers looked down and saw her phone was ringing and she immediately answered.
"Hey! I was just about to call you." Amaya spoke.
"I figured since we're just on the bus and I have downtime that I would call you first." Peter Parker's voice rang through the phone.
"Oh yeah, how was the trip?" Amaya asked her boyfriend. For the last year after Amaya left New York, she and Peter have been making long-distance work. Amaya would sneak back to New York every once in a while to see him and one of those times was coming up.
So she thought.
"It was cool, but, I miss you. Oh and Ned says he misses you too, but I definitely miss you more than he does and I know you were here like two weeks ago, but I still miss you." Peter ranted on which made Amaya giggle.
"I miss you too, Peter. And that was actually what I needed to talk to you about, I have a surprise!" She exclaimed.
"I love surprises, what's...-Holy shit! What is that?" Amaya heard and she raised an eyebrow.
"Peter? Is everything okay?" She asked her boyfriend.
"Yeah, I think so, I hope so. I have to go. I promise I'll call you back later." Peter said.
"Okay, talk to you later then. Bye, babe." Amaya said and hung up the phone, but what she didn't know.
That was her last conversation with Peter for a while.
Meanwhile, still in the living room, Natasha squeezed Katherine's arm and then Katherine's phone started to ring, when she looked at the Caller ID, she was surprised to see it was Tony. She has talked to him in the last two years, but not often.
They sent Amaya to live with him for a year because she wanted to try and live somewhat of a normal life. She went to school in New York, at the same school that Peter Parker went to. Katherine has noticed that Amaya has been talking to Peter a lot on the phone since coming back. It was crazy to her that both of her kids were in relationships with other Avengers. Well, was Peter even considered an Avenger? If she knows Tony, the answer to that is not officially. Even though no one found out Amaya's identity, after declining Tony on officially joining the Avengers, she decided it would be safer to come back to her parents.
Tony also called her to tell her that he and Pepper got engaged and that he wanted her at the wedding. He couldn't get married without her there, which she reminded him that he definitely could, but he told her it wouldn't be the same without her there. She said if, by the time they get married maybe she's not a wanted fugitive anymore, she could make something happen.
"Hey, Tony... what's up? Is everything okay? We usually don't talk unless it's urgent." She said, laughing a little.
"Kat. It's Banner... and we're in trouble. We need you guys."
