Ch. 13
Stan's POV
Welp, Kyle's pissed off with me yet again. I should have just listened to him when he was telling me to just not say anything, or just keep it to the minimum. But noooo course I had to go and say something then get pressured into saying more and more.
He was obviously a little upset but realized pretty quickly I didn't actually put my self at stake as much as he'd thought. He's been kind of awkward the last couple times I've seen him at school or at our houses but I'll admit I probably was too. Just a few days ago we jacked each other off and now we've got to go back to 100% normal? It's a lot harder than I would have thought.
Totally worth it though.
It could be worse, I guess. We weren't getting ripped on much more than before but there was definitely the occasional glance that made me uneasy, particularly when we were seen together. Even our parents were a little odd and that didn't do anything to ease mine nor Kyle's anxieties.
We continued to hang out and do all those kinds of things. I think my favourite was when we did 'homework' together but it usually ended in me winding up mesmerized by everything about Kyle. Sometimes he was too focused to notice but other times he would ask me the stupidest question like,
"Yo, does 7 times 9 equal 36?"
Stupid me, my brain wouldn't process fast enough to actually register what he was asking after I'd been checking him out the whole time. The answer didn't really seem right to the question so I shrugged and told him, very uncertainly,
"Uh, I-I don't think so? Doesn't really sound right."
Boy did that ever send him into a fit of laughter so loud I heard my mom tell us to keep it down from the stairwell.
"Ha! I can't believe you sometimes!"
Fucking call me an ambulance or something because whenever he laughs I swear to god my heart either stops, or beats like I've just drank a gallon of Red Bull.
"You don't think so? Pfft come on, I know you've been staring at me pretty much whenever we do homework but I didn't know you were that intense."
"Hah. I'm sorry, I'll quit if you want."
He leaned forward onto the desk and propped his chin on his hand while using the other to tuck a few stray curls up into his hat as he asked,
"You think I don't notice? I always catch you whether you know it or not looking at me with that one look in your eyes. If I wanted to you to stop I would have said it a long time ago."
I was more than a little embarrassed. I mean I tried not to be too obvious but that apparently didn't work well. I wasn't ashamed or anything I just hadn't gotten fully used to being able to openly stare. I looked down at my work and scribbled a few things down, trying to look like I knew what I was doing. It was fine until Kyle pointed out,
"Uh... You don't actually multiply the fraction until the end."
That was a good thing about studying together. Kyle was good at basically everything but especially math. I on the other hand was not the brightest in that area although I made up for it in others such as English.
All I did was sigh and slump over to put my cheek on the table and close my eyes.
"I'm so fucking over catching up on work it's not even funny anymore."
By the tone of his voice I could tell Kyle was smiling when he replied,
"Yeah me too dude. Let's play video games or something better than work."
"Hell yeah!"
I slid the chair back and headed to the TV stand. I grabbed out a stack of disks from the cupboard part of the stand and brought them back to the bed where Kyle was sitting. As we flipped through we decided to end up playing Mario Kart on the Wii. It wasn't as fun as some of the other games but it had been a long time since either of us had played a game like that.
After it was set up we took our new usual spots for playing video games, with my back against the wall and Kyle laying between my legs with his head resting just under my chin. My arms wound around his body to hold the controller better in front of him which usually ended terribly while playing because he could easily knock my controller out of my hands.
I easily could have won every round we played if Kyle's hair and hands hadn't "accidentally" gotten in the way of my controller. After I bit I started to mess up his games too. I would let go of my controller for a quick moment and poke his ribs, pull on a piece of hair or blow some air in his ears and on his neck.
Of fucking course the one time I leaned way forward and kissed him on the cheek his mother walks in. We both freeze with pure fear going through my veins for a nanosecond as the door knob turns before he slides forward to sit on the edge of the bed and I lean forward and cross my legs. Most likely the fastest movement I've ever done in my whole life and it seems to work because all Shelia says is,
"Stan I think you'd better start heading home. It's already 7:30 and you should have dinner with your family for once."
I was a little shocked but agree anyways. Why does she suddenly care about whether I eat dinner her or at my house? We don't usually do that much for dinner and almost every other night I've wanted to stay she's said yes.
I catch a slight look in her eye that worries me and she seems a little awkward as she half closed the door. I hear her thump down the stairs.
I didn't think too much about it as I shrugged, said goodbye to Kyle and his family then headed home. It was only a ten minute walk at most but I listened to a bit of music anyways. I walked in through the door and announced my arrival back home as I headed into the kitchen. I started making a plate of dinner that was left on the stove, chicken and roasted potatoes with some vegetables. Not the best, not the worst either though. I heard my mother call out,
"Stanley! Come here for a minute."
When any parent says that its understandable to be a little nervous. Did I forget to change the water filter? Did I not do all the chores yesterday? Is it a good thing like how my grades are slightly going up?
Still holding my plate of food I rounded the corner to the living room as asked,
"Yeah, whaddup Mom?"
My mother gestures to the spot on the couch beside her. Shit I must have really done something if she wants me to come sit down. I nodded before placing my food on the table, only to walk back out again to sit on the opposite end of the couch.
"So... why do you want me here?"
My dad wasn't home at the moment, probably off doing who knows what but I barely even noticed if he was here or not anymore. Shelly had managed to move out and was working a part time job and attending college. When my mother responded it was not the type of thing I was expecting.
"Stan I have to ask you a question and I hope you can feel comfortable enough to answer honestly."
I nodded slowly and seriously and supplied it with a unconvincing "Uh- Yeah?"
"What's your relationship with Kyle?"
Shit.
