First Day

Clementine was woke up by what she could only assume was a hand hitting her harshly on her back. She turned to see Troy glaring down at her and the boy by her side. She had to resist the urge to glare back at the man before she started carefully untangling herself from Duck, who currently had a good hold on her torso.

"The boy too," Troy said impatiently as he noticed she was taking her time to make sure her partner didn't wake. Clementine gave him a sharp look before turning back to Duck. She shook him roughly to wake him, making him open his eyes in surprise. He looked almost scared as he woke up, his eyes searching for danger and landing on Clementine. His face stayed scared but he visibly relaxed when he realized just what happened and smiled.

"Good morning. Get up," He didn't need to be asked twice before he got out of bed quickly, finally noticing Troy and giving him his signature smile before giving a two fingered salute. Troy only scoffed before he said something.

"Come on," He spat out harshly as he herded the kids in front of him, bringing them to the group everyone was gathered in and joining Carver at the front with his gun relaxed in his hands.

"There's been increased walker activity along the walls so be mindful when you're out there," Carver stated, surveying everyone there with a look that Duck couldn't identify. It was cold, calculated. The eyes of a heartless leader. The eyes that Duck knew all too well from leaders he's experienced in the past with Christa and Omid.

Carver's eyes fell on Duck and his eyes narrowed without a second thought. It wasn't on purpose but it still earned him a pinch on his side.

It seemed Clementine noticed the simple and short exchange.

If Carver noticed, he didn't say anything as he continued his survey along with everyone and his eyes softened for a moment as he looked at Rebecca. He then continued his speech. "The herds moved closer as of yet but that doesn't mean we'll be hit. Just know we'll be monitoring the situation. Now..." He paused.

"There are some folks that are sore about what happened. But that's all in the past now," He looked at Clementine and Duck again before he continued. "Some of you are new. Some could start with a clean slate. Here's to hoping you bring a good reputation with you. Others can find redemption... forgiveness... through what will undoubtedly be hard work," He finished that part of his speech with emphasis.

"How'd you sleep?" Sarah asked from the left side of Duck. He looked at her, trying to identify who she was referring to. Clementine stared straight ahead and paid attention to Carver.

Which was a good idea, since Carver seemed to notice the whisper Sarah provided and shot a warning look at the two of them. Duck stayed silent, suggesting she do the same with a side glance but she didn't seem to take the hint as she continued. "I... heard what happened last night. Did you have a bad dream?" She asked and Duck was shocked. Clem couldn't of said anything. Did she see him? Hear him? Did he say anything while asleep?

"...Did I wake you last night?" Duck couldn't help but ask as the question was thought of and Clementine pinched his side again. That was a warning to shut up and to stop engaging her.

"No. I was already awake. It was hard to get to sleep last night. But I thought I'd check on you, Duck. I don't have nightmares like that, where you cry or anything but—"

"Carlos!" Carver yelled, silencing Sarah and making Duck squeeze his eyes shut and clench his fist as he took a deep breath. This can't be good. Carlos sighed in worry before he answered Carver.

"...Yes?" He responded with unease.

"Your child seems to be in need of correction," Carver said as he stared Carlos down.

Carlos seemed stunned for a moment before he turned to his daughter to look at her. "I'm sorry..... Sarah a-apologize to Carver," Carlos said. Sarah looked down in almost shame before she decided on what she would say to the man.

"S..sorry... Sir. It won't happen again," She said but Carver shook his head, seeming to think it wasn't good enough.

"No, no. That ain't gonna cut it. I can't have this on day one of reform. Discipline her now, Carlos!" He said impatiently. Carlos seemed stuck on what he would say as he opened his mouth with no words coming out. Then, he finally found his voice.

"...How do you propose-"

"One good smack across the mouth! Make her think before opening it again.

Carlos paused once again before speaking. "My hand is.... not great...."

"That's why God have you two hands," Carver said and, finding nothing to fight on, Carlos turned to his daughter. Duck and Clementine looked at the scene and then each other. The same plan went through each of their heads, both silently fighting on who'd be the one to say it. Clementine's face held a fire that he could never argue with. One that said she knew what she was doing.

But Duck knew Carver wouldn't believe her if she took the role. She never even spoke during their conversation. There was really only one option between the two of them. Only he could take the blame.

"It was my fault! I had started the conversation and she shouldn't have to take the fall for me," Duck said and he could practically feel the rage Clementine felt. He felt a glare on him. He could hear what she'd say.

Do you have a fucking death wish?!

He could feel the daggers going into his back. He knew he'd be hearing about this later. He knew she'd give him a piece of her mind when the opportunity presented itself. He already had a fucked up face due to Carver. He was sure that's why she wanted to take the blame.

"Shut the fuck up-" Troy started but Carver put up a hand to silence him and he fell back, going back to stand in his previous position.

"Unless you want what she's getting from Troy here, I'd shut it. A boy like you shouldn't have to take anything not coming to you. He can be.... overzealous. Is...is that the word?" Carver asked as he turned to Troy.

"If it means I'll smack the shit outta him, yeah. Hell, I'll do it to all of the little bastards myself if this keeps getting delayed!" Troy said, a hopeful gleam in his eyes. Duck knew that Clementine wanted to tell him to stand down. That she wanted to tell him this was enough. That they couldn't protect Sarah from punishment in this place. They couldn't protect anyone.

"No need for that yet," Carver said as he stood silently. "Go on! We'll wait," He said, crossing his arms at Carlos. Carlos took a deep breath before he stepped in front of his daughter, who looked at the ground with tears starting to well in her eyes before she looked up at her father, nervously grabbing onto her other arm for whatever comfort she could get.

"I'm so sorry, Dad," She said, her throat closing up with the threat of tears, making the last word of her sentence sound choked out.

"It'll only sting for a second," Carlos said as Sarah closed her eyes. He let his hand go behind him, forcing it to fall down harshly and make the room sound a sharp slap as skin met skin. Duck flinched as he heard the sound, knowing that that was very hard for a first slap as discipline. Carlos stared at his daughter whimpering and sniffling on the floor for a moment before he started walking to her slowly, his hands stretched out to help her up. "I'm sorry, Sarah-"

"Stop! You're not coddling her anymore! Let her sit and think about it! Troy, get Carlos to his post!" Carver demanded as he sent Carlos away and looked down at Sarah. "Sit there and think about what you've done!" He roared at her, making her start crying even more and Duck couldn't help but wince internally at the noises she made. He turned his attention to Clementine, who had a face all too similar to his own.

"Everyone should have their assignments," Carver said. "Now get to work," He said as he walked passed Duck and Clementine.

"Damn, you really slapped the shit outta her, doc!" Troy exclaimed to Carlos as he passed and stared at Sarah who was still on the ground. Duck glared at Troy, knowing that that sentence would only humiliate Sarah further.

"I said get to work!" Carver shouted at the guard. A woman stared down at Clementine.

"You're with me, Clementine," She said and Clementine followed her, sparing no time in getting out of the room but giving Sarah a glace as she went. Troy stepped in front of Duck, glaring down at him as he did.

"You're with me, boy," Troy said, not bothering to say Duck's name as he followed him out. Duck looked at his surroundings as he followed Troy, noticing the whispers of a couple of kids as he went. They varied from wonder, to theories, to questions about why he looks like that and answers of which group he was with and what Carver had done to him. Some were spot on with what happened a day ago but other answers were outlandish, like gossip. Most of which weren't true but Duck didn't have the patience to correct right now.

As they continued their way to wherever Troy was leading him, people got scarcer and gunshots got louder. This only made apprehension settle in Duck as he kept stealing glances at Troy. Troy was not trusted, not at all but he was sure he wouldn't kill him. It wouldn't make sense, considering he didn't do anything so why did the gunshots get louder as they drew closer to the destination?

Troy then turned to Duck in front of a door with caution tape around the edges. "Here," He said, picking up ear muffs and goggles from a rack beside the door.

Duck took both and put them on, leaving one muff off to listen to what Troy was saying. "You're gonna be testing the guns. Makin' sure they don't jam and aren't faulty. Y'know. So we don't all die while scavenging," Troy said and gave a que that he's finished by turning to the door and opening it. Duck put the ear muff back on his ear as Troy began to shout. "Hey, boys! Make room for a new arrival!" He shouted at whoever was there and the shooting stopped. Duck stepped into the room as Troy shut the door and was met with two boys, one looking his age and the other looking around 20 years old. The one his age had black hair and brown eyes, his face friendly but dirty and the other looked a little more rough and less friendly, frowning at Duck.

"Hey!" The dark haired one said, walking in front of Duck with his hands on his hips and extending an arm for him to shake. He motioned for Duck to take off the muffs with his free hand. "I'm Caden," The boy said and Duck took his hand finally to shake it.

"I'm Duck," He introduced himself and Caden's eyes grew wide for a moment.

"...Carver's boy?" Caden asked hesitantly and Duck's eyes widened. Was that a gossip he didn't hear getting here? Duck assumed he had a disgusted look on his face as Caden's face relaxed. "Thank God. I would've hated working with someone raised by him," He said and Duck couldn't agree more. Who knows how that child would turn out. He hoped to God that baby Rebecca had was Alvin's and, for the love of God, let it be raised mainly by her if Alvin doesn't come back.

The bigger guy stepped behind Caden and clamped a hand down on his shoulder with too much force. "Hey," His voice was deep and even that simple word made Duck feel slightly threatened as his voice reverberated through his chest. Caden only laughed a little, a slightly nervous laugh before he raised a hand to the guy in presentation.

"Meet Brax. Don't worry if he doesn't like you,"

"Yeah. At least I won't hate you as much as I do her," He said, pointing behind him to a shadow Duck never saw before. He finally figured out there was a girl in the corner, her dark skin and hair blending into the shadow and being barely noticeable. What was she doing there? Why wasn't she shooting?

"Oh shut up. Just because you don't like her don't mean she got no friends," Caden said to him, standing up for his friend and turning to Duck. "I'll introduce you later, she's in her zone right now. She's real good at what she does and it's a wonder to watch!" He said, his eyes lighting up and Brax scoffed at him before walking away and picking up his gun to start shooting again. "Brax don't like none of us. But he hates her,"

"Why?"

"Not my place to say," Caden said apologetically but Duck just nodded, putting his headphones back on and taking a gun to start testing. It was heavier than what he was used to and it seemed Caden noticed it as he smiled at him from the side. "Let me help," Duck assumed he said as he took Duck's hands and positioned them to effectively carry the weapon, positioning his arms correctly and then directing his legs to stand in a more secure stance. "Now," He said and Duck tried to aim, shooting and stumbling back a bit as he did. Caden laughed and Duck's face grew red in embarrassment.

"Not funny," He said as he shook it off and got back in stance.

"Little funny. You're like a little baby. Only used handguns, huh?" Caden teased, making Duck's blush get brighter.

"And what?" Caden just snickered at that.

"It's cool. I never even used a gun before I got here. You're better than me already!" He said as he turned to the shadow girl and shouted. "Hey, Catherine!" She looked up at the boy who called her name and took off her headphones. "You're gonna like this one!" She stayed silent for a moment before getting up and walking directly in front of him.

"Hello," She said and this time he could really see her. She had the darkest skin he had ever seen and jet black hair with grey eyes. She had an unusual build for a female though, edging more on masculine and boxy than feminine and curvy. She couldn't of been more than 16 years old, though.

"Hello..." Duck said in an almost questioning tone, becoming uneasy with the gaze she gave him. He never had someone look at him the way she was. He couldn't even identify it. He felt like fidgeting under it as she continued to stare before a small smile made its way to her features.

"You're with that girl, huh? The one with pigtails. And a hat?" She asked and Duck was surprised. Nobody mentioned Clementine except for the people who spread rumors about her.

"You know her?"

"Know her? No. Met her? Yes. Wonderful company, if only for briefly," Catherine said as she smiled at him. When did she meet Clementine? While he was at the doctor's?

"Catherine's a genius! She repairs what each part of the building breaks most of the time. She makes rounds all day but she's here the most! I like to think it's because she likes me but I think it's because of all the faulty guns that come our way. She attempts to fix them, at least. But she's super smart and she shocks everyone and she so young and so much smarter than some of the uneducated tools that are the adults and-"

"Caden, you don't gotta brag for me," She said to her friend with a shy smile and turned back to Duck. "I was actually over there trying to figure out how to fix something my friend here broke,"

"I didn't do it on purpose," Caden said in his defense.

"Yeah, okay," Catherine said. She smiled once again at Duck. "Welcome to our little family. We all hate each other so it's okay if you don't like us,"

"I like you...." Caden said in a pout as he looked at Catherine.

"Okay, fine. You can hate us but Caden is gonna love you no matter what," She said as she smirked at him and Caden groaned.

"Not true! You like me too!"

"Sure," She said as she turned back and sat at her corner again. Caden watched her go before he looked back at Duck, his smile growing wider.

"You're gonna love her!" Caden said and his eyes shined. "Seems she already knows your friend!"

"Have you met Clem?" Duck asked and was kinda confused. Has everyone met her?

"Nope. Have no idea what she even looks like. Sounds nice though," Caden said with a smile. "I don't think Brax has either,"

"And Imma keep it that way. Girls are terrible,"

"Are not!" Caden said as he turned sharply to Brax. "You're just mad 'cause non of 'em wanna date you!" He said and the bigger boy glared at him and huffed, turning to pick another gun to test from the box. Caden sighed as he looked at Duck again. "Brax doesn't know how to take a hint from the girls, so he's basically ruined his chances with all of 'em on the basis of creepy. There's only one he absolutely hates though," He said as he pointed at Catherine behind him, who was focusing on what she was working on.

Caden then smiled weakly at Duck before taking another gun and shooting it, smiling when it didn't do anything. "Broken," He then threw it in a discard box or 'Catherine's pile'. Duck followed suit, picking another gun and, with help from Caden, got positioned to shoot it correctly.

———————————————————————-

An hour or so later, the radio stuck to the side of Brax's thigh went off, making him stop shooting and give a signal for everyone to follow suit. This caught Duck by surprise but learned quickly what it meant and followed Caden's lead as Brax listened in on what it was saying.

"Hey, Brax. You still got that boy with ya?" Troy's voice came through the radio.

"Which one?"

"Don't play around with me. The new one. Brown hair, freckles. Duck,"

"Oh, okay. Yeah, he's here. Why?"

"I need him to join me up on the roof. He's gonna be my partner rest of today. Tell him to get his ass up here," And with that, the radio cut off and Brax's eyes met Duck's for a moment.

"You heard him. Hurry up. Troy don't like waitin'," Brax said as he turned back to his weapon. Caden turned to smile at Duck.

"See ya, dude,"

"See ya,"

"Bye!" Catherine said as he left through the door and closed it, catching her send off a little too late to respond.

———————————-

Sarah couldn't hear a word that Carver was telling her. Her attention was where his hand was on her shoulder, a touch that was supposed to be comforting screaming into her ear louder than his words, making her want to run and go anywhere else. He sent Clementine away after killing Reggie, who's body was just a few floors below her. Who's presence was felt even in death, moreso now.

She was alone with this man. This man who she knows is capable of so many things. Did he think he was comforting to her? Did he think he was making her feel better with whatever empty words he was spitting at her? She didn't want those words. She didn't want that touch. She wanted his hands off her shoulders. She wanted him off of her. She wanted him to go away and leave her alone but she couldn't move.

Sarah's feet were planted to the ground, unable to move as she tried to keep her breathing even and stop whatever crying happened. Tried to stop whatever tears were bound to come as her throat tightened. She didn't feel comfortable with him being here. She was alone, she couldn't save herself if he decided she was useless, just like Reggie. Clementine would've at least been able to help. Clementine was her friend, she was trusted, she wouldn't let Carver hurt her.

Maybe that's why Carver sent her away.

She stared at the ground as her body chilled with that thought, almost holding her breath now as she tried to not look at his face. Carver's words to her had stopped as she realized the roof door opened. Someone come up here. She instantly felt relief as she felt safe again. She decided to stay with her back turned, still staring at the ground as her thoughts raced, jumping from one to another until it would become unrelated and then start over. The hand left her. He wasn't touching her.

Whoever it was, Carver wanted to give them his full attention.

"Hey...." She knew that voice and she could almost cry from happiness. It was Duck! It was her friend! It was someone who'd protect her! She couldn't help but smile, catching a few tears finally fall, this time of relief.

"Hey. Perfect timing," Carver said as he straightened up, looking more straight forward at Duck. Sarah closed her eyes, letting out a shakey breath and closing her eyes. Her legs felt like jelly. She felt like collapsing. "I need to show ya something," Her body went cold again, whatever warmth leaving. What could he possibly show him? "Come here," No. No, don't come here. She wanted to shout at him, yell at him, scream at Duck to go away.

But she couldn't move, she was still paralyzed. "Why?" Duck questioned, giving Sarah some hope. "I've gotta go to Troy,"

"This'll only take a moment. 'Sides, it's more important," There was a silence and, if she hadn't known any better, she could've sworn Duck was listening to her thoughts. She felt his eyes burning holes into her. She already knew what he was thinking. She knew he knew she wouldn't be acting like this usually. She knew he was thinking something was wrong. She knew what he thought, what he assumed, in this moment.

She knew what he was thinking. "If everything's okay, why hasn't Sarah said hi yet?".

Still, she heard his footsteps coming towards them and she could almost feel ice stabbing it's way into her heart. Duck knew better! He was supposed to know better! She suddenly grew very angry at the boy who was now standing beside of her. She wanted to punch him. She wanted to hit him. She wanted to do anything to get him away.

What if he ended up like Reggie? What did Carver want?! She could feel herself seething with hatred as she finally looked up at Carver with a glare. He didn't seem to notice, however. "Look over that edge there," There was a pause as Duck did as he was told, Sarah reaching for his jacket only to have her hand pulled back by Carver, who's grip was almost hurting her wrist.

She didn't remember Duck's reaction. All she could remember after that was Duck shouting at the man in question, asking why and growing angry as he butt heads with the leader she had trouble telling to get his hand off her.

"When you're useless, you must have consequences," She remembered Carver saying to Duck as an explanation for Reggie's body below them. "I can't have dead weight. As long as you're useful, you won't be considered like Reggie," He said and this stuck with her. Even as he said it to Duck, she knew the same applied to her. She knew that if she was useless, she'd die in here.

She didn't know what Duck did. She didn't know what he said. But for some reason, Carver left the roof to them both, looking satisfied. They were silent for a moment as she held herself and looked up at him, freezing when she found he was staring at her.

"Are you okay?" He asked. Sarah stayed silent. She stayed silent until she found the courage to speak.

"Yeah...." She said quietly as she walked passed him. "I'm going to work. I'll see ya later....." She said and Duck turned to watch her leave the roof, his eyes narrowing. Something didn't feel right. She wasn't acting right. Something was up. It couldn't of been the dead body, she's seen dead corpses lots while traveling to the lodge with him. He knows she's seen death. She's used to it. Or should be.

Maybe it was just because it was Reggie? Or how he died?

He has only the slightest idea of what happened. At least, Carver's interpretation.

Apparently Clementine was there. Maybe he'll ask her later. Sarah didn't seem to want to talk about it.

But he wanted to talk to Sarah at some point.

He wanted to make her feel better.

Duck walked around the perimeter of the roof, finally coming across Troy.

"Fucking finally. Almost had a feelin' you went after your friend to give supplies," He mumbled and Duck grew confused.

"Huh?"

"Your friend. Hat. Pigtails,"

"Oh, yeah. She came through here?"

"While you were off lollygaggin. Where were ya anyways?" Troy asked as he picked up a crossbow and handed it to Duck. He had no idea how to use it yet.

"Carver wanted to show me somethin'. Said it was a good lesson," He said. Troy hummed and picked up his own gun.

"Now, I'm gonna—"

He was caught off guard by a high pitched scream that made Duck sick. He knew that scream and he almost ran off the roof to locate the source until Troy ran in another direction, telling him to follow him as he did. Duck ran just as fast as Troy and was eventually led to the store and saw his dad and another guy struggling with walkers. He saw Clementine struggling under what he could assume was her freshly killed walker to kill another one that was closing the distance between her and him fast.

He tried to aim for the head with the crossbow but failed, the arrow plunging into the walker's back. Duck then whistled, glee appearing when the walker turned to him. "Over here, ugly! Don't want a girl covered in your bro's guts, right?" He said, waving his arms over his head as the walker walked towards him.

Duck saw Clementine move the walker off of her, untangling the cord around her ankle in a hurry as Duck began to back up when the walker closed more distance between them.

Clementine then stood up and retrieved a screwdriver, making Duck trip up the walker with his crossbow and, when the walker was on the ground, having Clementine plunge the screwdriver into the walker's head.

Duck turned to see the rest of the walker's were taken care of and then turned back to Clementine with a smile. She looked up at him from her place kneeling in front of the walker and smiled back. He offered his fist to her. "Teamwork,"

She gave a small, breathy laugh before connecting her fist with his. "Teamwork,". Duck then uncurled his fingers for her to grasp his hand and helped her up.

"Oh thank god you guys are alright," Kenny said to the both of them as they went back to the three men.

"All right enough mushy shit! You!" He said to Clementine. "Go back in the store and make sure they've got something for you to do! And you!" He pointed to Duck. "Go back to the point we were at and sit there for thirty minutes before going around the perimeter and going the the next corner. That's your job today until Tavia radios me and tells me to put you somewhere else. I gotta babysit these assholes now. Get goin!" He shouted at the both of them before they exited together.

"So, how'd that happen?" Duck asked but before she could get a word out, someone grabbed her, which made Duck instinctually grab for his weapon before he saw who it was and went inside the comic store, resisting slamming the door and only closing it gently. "What the hell is wrong with you?! Get off!" Duck whisper shouted at Luke and he immediately let go of Clementine.

"Sorry! Sorry! I didn't know she was with you and I'm pretty sure she woulda screamed if I just pulled her without covering her mouth. Almost had my head shot, huh?"

"I don't know how to use this but I'm sure I would've hurt something," Duck said and Luke took his hands off Clementine's shoulders.

"Well this is better," Clementine turned around to face Luke, glaring at him. "Sorry, Clem. Now I kill two birds with one stone," He said. "Look, we ain't got much time. I followed y'all as best I could when y'all got nabbed and haven't had a nights rest. This is the first chance I've gotten to talk to anyone. They're everywhere. Got guards watchin everything and shh.." He stopped talking suddenly and Duck and Clementine automatically held their breath in case their breathing would be heard.

They heard footsteps that came and went. They started to breathe again as Luke closed his eyes for a moment before speaking again. "There's a herd of walkers just South of us. Probably will take a couple days or a week to get here but it's bigger than what I've seen," He said in a low tone.

"Carver mentioned that. Said he hopes it passes," Clementine said to Luke, who started shaking his head.

"Yeah I heard that too but that ain't so. It's gonna hit and it's gonna hit hard,"

"Are you... feeling okay?" Duck asked, noticing the stuttering and the quickness. Almost as if he didn't really know what he was saying and his brain was short circuiting. Like he was on drugs but Duck knew that wasn't possible.

"No. No, I mean, yeah. Yeah, just tired, you know? Hard to get sleep when you think a lurkers gonna get the jump on ya. Listen, Duck, Clem. I need one of those radios. It'll take no more than a week for that herd to get here but please get me one ASAP. Okay? I don't care who does it but I need to be able to communicate with you and, and the group," Luke said and blinked for a moment as he looked at Duck. "Ah shit, you're supposed to be guarding, aren't you? Troy ain't gonna like either of y'all being late. Just get me a radio please,"

"Duck! Where the fuck are ya?! And bring the girlie with ya! I know you got her!" Duck heard Troy calling for him.

"Go on! Just get those radios!" Luke said before hiding. Duck took Clementine's hand and opened the door to exit the shop with her in tow.

"Now what the fuck were y'all doin?!" Troy asked as he walked up to them with a pissed off expression. Duck let go of Clementine's hand and looked back at the store. "Well?"

"We.... we were..."

"I don't wanna hear it. Carver's gonna hear about this, boy. Do and say personal shit on your own time, got it?"

"Got it," Duck said quickly, clinging onto the lie Troy provided him with. Whatever it was, it was better than Duck's stammering around the question.

"Bill wants to see you," He said to Clementine. "Go!" He shouted, making Clementine turn and run towards Carver's office.

Duck's eyebrows furrowed as he thought about what happened earlier. Carver didn't seem trusted. Sarah was entirely too shaken up for just seeing a murder. Granted, she wasn't like him. But still, she was around death all the time. She was alone with Carver when he found her. Her body seemed frozen in place but still tense and uncomfortable when Carver touched her. He turned slowly back to Troy but stared at the ground.

Did Carver ever do anything to Sarah? Would he do anything to Clementine?

"I'm babysitting these assholes, in case you forgot. Better not take another girl to have privacy with while my backs turned. Go on up there and guard!" Troy shouted at him. Duck made his way back to the roof, getting in position and trying to shoot any walker he saw that was near the weak spots in the wall that his dad and the other dude had yet to reinforce.

With each walker, he got better with aim.

———————————————

"Duck!" He heard Troy shout his name for the fifth time in the last hour. For having to look after his dad, Troy loved the taste of Duck's name in his mouth. Duck put down his weapon and turned to Troy with a sour look on his face.

"Yes?"

"Don't be lookin at me like that, boy, unless you want my back hand," He said before speaking again. "Carver's done with your girlfriend. He wants to see you next and trust me," He paused. "I told him all about your little mistake back there," Troy then walked passed him to take Duck's position but not without knocking shoulders. "Go on," Troy said in a harsh tone and Duck stared at him for a moment before turning and opening the roof doors, making his way down the stairs until he reached the bottom floor. What he could only assume was the front of the warehouse.

A/N: This is a rather short chapter than my previous ones but I hope you guys enjoyed it anyways!
