Chapter 22- Its Not My Fault!
We walk in silence.
Hana and Danial refused to look at us, and Hana looked ready to kill as she watched Georgia embrace their small yet impactful victory.
I guided us all to a picnic table where we all sat down as Hana and Danial looked through their wounds and patched themselves up.
"What in the world were you thinking!" Danial all but growls at Cedrick, turning on him with such a fierce look that I groveled back in my seat.
Hana slams the first aid kit onto the table and says angrily, "We were at the third obstacle! That would have been a guaranteed 12 points— 18 if we finished that. Do you know how difficult it was to get there?" She slumps in her seat and says to Danial, "You were right. Forget about winning, worry about passing".
Cedrick sinks in his chair as they limp away, sending one last look of hatred his way and a contempt-filled look to me.
I felt anger boiling. It wasn't Cericks fault. It wasn't mine either. It was theirs. It was all of those people who had left half of their teams behind. You can't blame people for never being given a chance, they never had the chance to prove themselves. But you sure as hell can yell at fate for your lack of opportunity, and then yell at people to make yourself feel better.
I get up and grab the bandage box. Cedrick looks at me confused and widens his eyes as I throw it at Hana and Danials back.
It hit Danial's shoulder, causing him to turn around just as I send a water bottle to Hana's shoulder.
"Hey!" she says, glaring.
Danials hand snaps out to catch the first aid kit I send their way and screams, "What's your problem?"
"Sit. Down", I say, emphasizing each word.
When they both stay standing, I pick up a palm-sized rock and say "So help me, if you don't get your butts on there, I will hit you. Hard."
Danial moves to sit down, not out of fear of my threat, but curiosity and Hana reluctantly follow suit as she mutters, "Dillisional idiot" and plops on the seat with as much anger as only Hana can manage.
All three of them look at me.
Cedrick with confusion.
Hana with boredom.
Daniel with interest.
Three very different individuals, but yet, very alike.
I stay standing as I say to them, "We lost today. We lost the game and possible points." I face Danial and Hana, "But it is not Cedricks fault, neither is it mine. It's yours." I spat the words at them.
"Oh yes," Hana says turning to Danial. "It's our fault for trying to get our team to win. It's our fault for trying to help. It's our fault for trying to carry the weight of these two deadbolts. It's all our fault!".
I roll my eyes. At least we're communicating now.
"There's nothing wrong in wanting to win and working for that to happen. There is something wrong with excluding and ridiculing people. It doesn't matter what their type is. It's not right."
I take a deep breath. "We lost because we didn't work as a team. You two ran off to get us points, we wanted to help. No one is truly in the wring here, but our method was— excuse my language— crap".
Danial's head nods along to what I'm saying, as I expected it would. He seems to be the type of person who thinks about what he says or does about a billion times before actually doing it. He doesn't do random. He understood what I was saying.
Feeling pumped up by Danial's alignment, I push on. "Cedrick even told me that these games can only be completed if you work as a team. Don't you see, that's why the other teams didn't win, they left their members as well".
Danial strokes his chin thoughtfully, musing "That would explain how they didn't pass the third obstacle. Most of them were there way before us, and even we had a hard time getting there".
Hana gets up abruptly and watched Danail with slitted eyes. "You mean to say we need their help to win these trials?". She huffs and sits back with her arms crossed. "We're totally failing".
Cedrick speaks up. "I mean, it makes sense. The point of Fizi Tal Obasi and this group nonsense is so that we can get the two types to work together. That means that these games are designed to be completed if the entire team participates. I mean, none of the other teams in other trials finished either, and that is because not one of those teams worked as a team".
Hanas face tells me that she's understanding what we're saying, but not liking it. "So what do we do?"
I sit down. "Work with each other, not against. That would be a start."
Danial adds to that saying, "More than that if we plan to win some points. We need to familiarize ourselves with each other. Learn our weaknesses and strengths so that we can compensate for them."
"Don't you think" Cedrick cuts in, "that would mean knowing each other's abilities? I mean, then we can use those to enhance our strengths as well, and use that to our advantage".
I find myself nodding along, but after seeing everyone's skepticism, I say, "I'll go first. Don't feel inclined to tell, but I agree with Cedrick's points".
I take a deep breath in. This would be my first time telling anyone about my abilities formally.
Calmly, I let out a breath and say, "I'm a seer. I can see the future at times. It's totally at random and it's mostly confusing, but it comes true most time then not". I stop my rambling, refusing to look up.
"So," Hana says, "you're completely useless?" At Danial's glance, she says, "I mean, that's not really useful in trials or anything".
I shrug. "It is what it is".
I can almost see the wheels turning in Danial's head as he thinks, and I can only think that it's about the library experience. About how I knew what to do and where to go.
"I'll tell you all mine since you already saw it in action," Danial says dismissingly. "I'm driven from elemental powers. I can control air".
"Cool", I breathe out, totally fangirling.
He turns to Hana and nudges her.
"Fine," she sighs. "I'm basically a shapeshifter, in simple terms, but I can only switch between human looks".
I look at her dumbfounded. A shapeshifter?
She fiddles nervously under my stare.
"Can you show me?" I breathe out, excited.
She doesn't say anything, but I saw the concentration in her eyes and slowly, her nose shifts slightly, her skin lightens in colour, and her eyes change. Her hair moves to a different height and colour and her cheeks draw out more.
I come face to face with myself.
Unable to say anything smart, I say "Is my skin really that bad?"
Startled, she switched back as Danial explains to me and Cedrick— who was just as shocked as me— that she couldn't hold it for too long.
She scoffs and turns to Cedrick. "What about you?"
He shrugs, "Nothing as exciting as yours. I'm just exceptionally good at reading emotions".
Hana nods, obviously upset, and mutters quietly, "All Ghostilios powers are lame".
We failed today.
But in ways that matter more, we won.
Telling someone your type was a big deal. While we weren't besties, this was a beginning.
Like the Phonix, we were in the process of rebirth.

Cedrick and Hana went to the library while me and Danial were due to be at Hummingherds office for our interrogation.
Before we parted ways, Hana said, "If we're going to work together, then we need to trust each other. That starts with telling where you two were last night. We know you were together".
Cedrick's face tells me he didn't know that, but now that the thought was in his head, he seemed inclined to know.
Me and Danial shared a look. What do we say? We went to the library to find a book? Could we sound any more lamer than that?
What do we say when she asks why?
I don't even know why Danial wants with it.
We left agreeing to tell them everything we could after meeting with Dodobi.
That would give us time to come up with a response.
We step into his office and quietly sit in our seats as Dodobi works through some papers quietly.
My mind was going crazy with possible punishments as we waited, so I distracted myself by looking at the room again. It seemed grander than the last time I was here. My eyes came back to the portrait on his desk, and this time I recognized the other person in the photo as Dodobis's grandson.
I look back at Dodobi to find him already looking at me.
"How did you two enter the restricted area of the library?" he asks calmly.
"We got the key from-" Danial starts.
Dodobi slams his fist on the desk, "The key doesn't matter! Anyone can get the damn key!" he screams. "No one is capable of knowing how to use it! How did you know?" he fumes as he waits for a reply.
Danial looks at me. Message sent— since I was the one who opened the door, I was the one who had to answer.
"I had a vision," I say, Dodobis's head snapping to Danial as I hurriedly say, "He knows about my abilities. It's not a big deal".
Dodobi seems skeptical about it but tells me to continue.
"I saw a vision", I repeat. "And I copied the way it was used".
Dodobi suddenly seems worried and says, "Who did you see opening the door?"
Danial sits up as he notices Dodobi's seriousness. "What's wrong?" he asks.
"Olivia's powers allow for her to see the future in bits. If she saw someone opening the door, I want to know who".
I fiddle with my thumbs nervously as I say, "That's the thing though. It wasn't a vision of the future. It was a glimpse of the past".
Dodobi's face turns to confusion, and he eventually asks, "Who did you see opening the door, Olivia?"
"You", I say, causing both Dodobi and Danial to appear shocked. "It seems like it was before, you know". I reference that last bit to how I arrived here, hoping Dodobi would understand. I didn't want to mention it to anyone else. I know I told the group that we would be truthful with each other, but my personal life has nothing to do with our goals.
"You know what?" he asks.
"You know" I say again, moving my hands weirdly to signify the past.
Danial raises his eyebrows and says, "I'll leave if you want me to".
I sigh and say to him, "It's okay". I turn back to Dodobi and say vaguely, "It was before you came to meet me".
Understanding dawns on his face but is replaced with curiosity as he thinks about what that could possibly mean.
"What were you looking for", He finally asks.
Daniel and I look at each other, and at my nod, he says, "The Jasus"
