Chapter 13- Meeting Teachers
Abilities and Sorts, no idea what that is, I thought as I struggled to find that class. Its name was not something I was familiar with from high school, so it must be a Parax thing. Eventually, I end up finding it- the teacher had displayed a sign on the door with the class name.
Stepping into the classroom, the layout was like that of a stadium. The bottom floor was where it looked like the teacher would be, but the seats elevated and went up. The only difference to a stadium was that it seemed like our seats were suspended in air.
I sat in my seat and took out my notebook, taking a look at what I know so far
what I know so far
linopia + ghostilios = people with powers
(fizi kuhl and mena tal = founders
school named after them (Fizi Tal obasi)
obasi=?
Fizikuhl Jasus= no real information ( though assuming having something to do with fizi kuhl and mean tal)
I sigh as I close my book, I don't know much about this world, and that makes me feel deflated knowing I'm so far away from what I need.
As more and more students enter, I try to guess who is Linopia and who is Glostilios by looks. Are there some features that help distinguish between the 2?
Try as I might, I could not find out peoples types, or anything to separate them.
Long after all the seats were filled and we had been waiting for a long time, a figure- who I assume was our teacher by way of other students straightened at the sight of him-walked in.
He stood in the middle of the room, way below the rest of us.
He looked to be in his mid-30s and dressed casually. He wore jeans and a t-shirt, the only thing that told me he was a teacher when he walked in was the reaction of other students and his ID card around his neck. Otherwise, he looked to be like any other student.
He stepped in a circle to observe us all, and as his eyes passed over me, he did a quick double-take and flinched at my face.
Everyone noticed it and looked at me as I hunched down.
He collected himself from his surprise and started talking
"Welcome students to Abilities and Sorts. My name is Radison Yellowstone, you will address me as Mr or Professor Yellowstone'' he walks around the rim of the ground, and as he does he is lifted off the ground as if he is walking on stairs.
"To all of you who are new" again, his eyes flicked to me. "Abilities and Sorts is the class where you find out about possible Parax abilities, and how they've been used in the past. You will learn how to sort them as Linopia and Ghostilios, and dive into the past of these abilities".
He walked so high up that he was almost to our height.
"This is not the class you will learn to control abilities" he stated, emphasizing the word 'not'. "This is not a classroom where Linopia or Ghostilias discrimination is accepted. It is not a class where you disrespect me or your fellow students"
He seems to be the only one against the Linopia and Ghostilias fight and taking a stand against it. His demeanor seems serious about these things, so it's easy to tell that he is genuine in his words, and he doesn't want any part in the feud.
"Now for our lesson for today, take out your textbooks and turn to page 108."
He begins to descend as he walks over to the board.
I turn to my backpack and look through the textbooks I brought. I let out a breath of relief when I saw that Abilities and Sorts 101 was one of the many textbooks I stuffed in my bag this morning.
He moves towards his desk and is about to speak when a knock interrupts him. "Come in," Professor Yellowstone said, annoyance clear on his face.
A little old lady pops her head through "Sorry to interrupt Mr.Yellowstore she says, visibly nervous. "But.." she signals him to come over. She whispers loudly into his ear, and his expressions flicker through multiple emotions.
I'm too high up to hear. Brat, why didn't I pick a lower seat? I innocently move forward in my seat to catch a few words, and hear phrases, 'break in', 'last night', and 'missing'.
Professor Yellowstone turns to face us and yells " Read from page 108 to 112, and have a free class once you're done. We will discuss the reading tomorrow. I have matters to take care of, so kind Mrs. Tanny here," he says as he nudges her forward, earning a yelp from her "will watch over you."
He turns and gives her instructions, gives the classroom a playful salute, and bolts out of the room, leaving a classroom full of disobedient students and a timorous Mrs. Tanny

As I was heading to my last block class— P.H— I run into Cedrick.
"Hey," he says, falling into step with me, "How's your first day going so far?"
"I want to say great, but" I lift up my arms, which carried all the extra books and papers I received today that wouldn't fit in my backpack "I already have tons of work."
He chuckles as he reaches over me to pluck a paper out of my hands, "What did you expect? School is school, no matter which one you attend". He inspects the paper with squinted eyes and lets out a short chuckle. "You have History with Lincon?"
I nod and he laughs "Oh good luck ".
I look at him closely and say "Why? What's wrong with Professor Lincon?"
He's still laughing as he places the paper back and says "Nothing. You'll find out soon."
I stick my tongue out at him, and he flicks my nose as we round the corner and bump into a crowd of students.
We look at each other questioningly, and I overhear a girl saying that the P.H teacher hadn't arrived yet, and the door was still locked.
"Great "Cedrick huffs as he leans against the wall. I take a close look at him. His set black hair completely contrasts his pale skin, and his lashes were long enough to make anyone jealous. He still held a composed demeanor, but it was more relaxed and sturdy than when we first met.
He looks over at me staring and smiles.
I clear my throat and ask, "What is P.H anyway?
"Parax History" he replies, surveying the crowd and pulling me aside as some guys pass by tumbling. He grumbles as they leave
"Parax History? But I just had History". I groan. "I have to learn the same things in two classes."
"No, Parax History is different than normal history classes. History class is what you would learn in any other high school, it's to make it easier if people decide to become Leavlings, or just integrate into the human world. All our normal high school courses, which we call Norms, are provided to make transitions easier. Parax History falls under what we call Difs— basically courses added for our kind. Its to help us live in and understand our people. I'm telling you though, it doesn't matter what type of history you're doing, it's all still boring".
Just as he finished, a man walked through the crowd saying "My apologies students for being late, a situation popped up which needed my attention. I am Professor Grim, your Parax History teacher. Come inside and get situated while I start the lesson".
He opened the door and led us inside.
This classroom was structured differently than the Abilities and Sorts room. In this room, the teacher's board and desk were elevated while we sat below, and it wasn't a circular room- which meant he could see all of us from where he stood.
"That's strange," I say quietly as I sit.
"What's strange?" Cedrick asks, taking a seat beside me
"Mr. Yellowstone also got pulled out of class today for something" I drum my fingers on the table "You think there's a connection?"
"Connection? As in a big deal?" he asks, and after I nod my head he says "I think you may be looking too much into this. It's the first day of classes, problems are bound to show up".
I nod, what he says is definitely the truth. But something seems off.
I look around the room to see Hana and Danial here as well. They sat in different rows with their friends but were angled towards each other.
I turn back to Cedrick, "I forgot to ask, how was bunking with Danial yesterday?"
He sighs dramatically, "Don't even ask. It was like I'm not even a person. He neither showed that he saw me, or knew of my presence"
"Ouch, " I say, patting his shoulder. Hana had not been the kindest, but at least we had acted like I was a person. I relayed to him my night with Hana, and he laughed at my reaction to the snake, and then the names of the reptiles.
Before I would defend myself, Professor Grim stood up at the podium. He didn't say a word, so no one looked over at him.
I looked at him and flinched.
He was staring right at me.
Not staring though, but glaring, with murder in his eyes.
His lips turned up into a cruel smile and without taking his eyes off me, loudly says, "Welcome to Parax History. Are you prepared for the truth of the past?"
