Knock Myself Out
"So, what was that paper about?" Aspen asked as he leaned over my desk. I was working in my office, signing through the daily stack of paperwork.
I looked up from the thick, intimidating stack of papers. Sheets stuck out from the sides of the thick stack, annoying me. "What paper?" I sighed.
"You know... The one you hid from Maxon that I helped you hide? A few days ago?"
I looked back down to my paperwork, signing papers and and flipping through them. He was talking about the letter from the W.E.O. "Well, if you don't have anything better to do with your time, I guess I'll tell you. I still ended up showing it to Maxon."
"That ruins all the fun," Aspen frowned. I gave him a look and he grinned in response. We both sharply turned our heads to a frantic knocking on the closed door.
"Ames!" Maxon's voice rang on the other side. Aspen leaned against the window facing the palace grounds as I called Maxon in. Maxon slowed as he saw Aspen.
"Aspen," he shook hands with him.
"Your Majesty-- Maxon," Aspen corrected himself right before he bowed and excused himself. He winked at me before closing the door behind himself.
Maxon hopped onto my desk. "What did he want?"
"Oh you know... The usual." I moved the papers out of the way and stood up. I stood at Maxon's legs as he wrapped his arms around my waist. He cocked an eyebrow. "You know, gossip... About you mostly."
Maxon rolled his eyes. "Good things, I presume?"
"Well it is gossip... So not necessarily," I joked with him. I grabbed his collar and fit my lips onto his, feeling his smile against mine. We kissed for a minute, only moving our lips.
Once we stopped, Maxon offered me his elbow and we left my office to make it down to lunch.
Once we were seated at the table, Maxon started talking right away."Okay, I need this to be a half business lunch. We need to discuss a few things," he told me. Since we were sitting next to each other, I rubbed my foot against his leg.
"Why? What is so important?"
"The country. The future. Our heir," Maxon listed.
"What about the heir?" I asked. I leaned forward into the table, straightening my back.
"I just... Had this dream."
I smiled. "Okay. What happened?" I rested my foot on his ankle.
"Well, it was you and me. You were giving birth and out came... a girl." I thought it was funny how he was dreaming about our future child. Even I wasn't. Yet...
"Is there anything wrong with it being a girl?" I asked.
"No! No, no, no. I was just wondering, how would I do it? Girl or boy?" I was confused.
"Do what?"
"Teach them. Let them face the dangers of our country, the rebels."
"Oh Maxon," I shook my head. I took his hand above the table. "Surely the rebels will be gone by then."
Maxon looked over at me, and I could see how un-confident he was about it. He shook his head.
"OK, they definitely won't go away if we don't even hope they'll leave. Maxon, come on!"
"Anyways, the dream sped through her teenage life. And she had a selection! 30 men were here, winning the hand of our daughter!"
I decided to ignore him evading my point. I forced a laugh. "That's cute."
Maxon nodded his head. "I also need to talk to you about some other Caste things."
I then continued. "I've gotten some of the letters from the advisors about complaints. The eights are still having trouble getting a new status. Do you think there is something we can do? To make the job process easier for them?"
"What do you propose?" Maxon asked. He placed his chin on his hand and leaned on the table. A strand of his hair fell into his eyes and I moved it back into place. It fell again.
"Well, maybe we could reward the people who hire them. Like, if they hire the eights, then they'll get a year of 'supply support' from the palace?"
"Hmm.. OK, I like where you are going with this, but what about the others? Won't that cause a decline in jobs for them? Also, how do we know that the eights will like that? It might cause some of them to feel like they don't actually deserve the job and they were only hired for their status... Which is what we are trying to avoid."
"That's true," I admitted. I needed to think about this more.
"Don't worry," Maxon sadly smiled. "We'll figure something out soon. It's only a matter of time before the right idea comes to us."
Once we left lunch, I headed to my office as Maxon headed back to his. The rest of the day dragged on and I filled out more paperwork. I met with some advisors and we discussed border patrol between Illéa and other countries. Before the day ended and I could make it back to the suite, I needed to observe the soldiers training.
They were a charming bunch, who ranged from the ages 17-30. Aspen knew almost every single one of them by name and did the exercises with them. By the time they got to 20 pushups, I heard a voice scream out to me.
"Ames!" A familiar voice called out to me.
I turned around and squealed. Marlee came running towards me down the hill from the castle. She and her husband had left for their honeymoon after my wedding. We embraced and held onto each other for a minute, jumping up and down from seeing each other again.
"How was it?" I asked. I really wanted to hear what the Bahama's were like. And if Paris was really the city of love.
"It was amazing. We went sight-seeing all the time. And since we know you guys we got amazing hotel rooms." We both giggled. By now, my back was completely to the soldiers. I could neglect my duties every once and a while to welcome back a friend. "We watched movies, hung out..."
"Uh-huh..." I nodded my head, urging her to go on.
"We did a little more," at that we both giggled. "I mean, it's a honeymoon! How was your stay-at-home honeymoon?"
"Great, Maxon and I had a lot of fun. And it was also nice to dress up for him and not for my reputation. We've also had a The Report hiatus. Kind of like 'off season.'"
"That's nice," Marlee nodded. "Yeah, I noticed it wasn't airing." We talked some more and walked back to the palace. Our conversations were about Maxon, Aspen who was now general, Lucy, and the general state of the country. It was close to the night by the time we separated and I made my way to the suite.
I shut the door behind me to find Maxon sitting on my bed in his usual PJ's, the silk gleaming in the light of the room. "Hi," Maxon said while flipping through some papers.
"Hi," I said back. "Are you done for the day?"
"Yep, almost." I walked to his closet and pulled out my clothes that were already in there. I changed into the silk shorts and tank that the Palace provided me. These were my favorite pajama's because of the comfy shorts (let's just say I didn't like the nightgowns they always left in my closet).
Maxon had moved and was hunched over his desk when I walked back into his room. He was placing papers onto his desk and looked up at me. Smiling, he opened his arms. I slowly walked towards him before slipping into his embrace. Our bare toes touched each other.
Maxon rubbed his hands up and down my back. "How was the rest of your day?"
"It was fine, yours?" I asked him. I looked up into his eyes as he looked into mine.
"Boring, as usual. Besides the parts with you." Maxon leaned down to give me a kiss. I brushed his hair with my fingers and dragged my hands as he lingered on the kiss. He pushed me back onto the bed and continued to kiss me.
I pulled him down farther and unbuttoned his collared pajama shirt. I ran my hands down his bare sides and continued to kiss him. He moved his lips from mine to my jaw and then my neck. He kissed under the strap of my tank before kissing down my arm. When he reached my fingertips, he kissed the tip before biting it.
I pulled my finger out of his mouth and grabbed his chin closer to mine. I continued to kiss him while he placed his hands tentatively under my pajama top. He raised it higher and held my body on the sides as he continued to slide it over my head. Soon it was completely off.
I placed my arms around his neck and he kissed my jaw and chin again. Then I flipped him onto his back and stared down at him. He looked down at my bare chest and then pretended he didn't.
"I saw that, you know," I murmured. I pressed a deep kiss to his lips before kissing along his cheekbones and reaching his hairline. His hands were circling around my lower back as I kissed him on the mouth again.
When I bit his lower lip, he gripped my hips in response. I kissed down his chest and felt his stomach muscles tighten as I went lower.
"I want to kiss you," Maxon whispered. I moved my face back up to his and pressed a deep kiss to his lips before kissing up his jawline. I kissed behind his ear and bit on his earlobe-- his breath quickened in response to that.
Suddenly, Maxon flipped over and was on top of me. The only material between us were his pants and my PJ shorts. I hooked my fingers into the waistbands of his bottoms as he pressed kisses all over my body. I gasped and moaned as he pressed on more sensitive spots on my body. He pulled back up to my face and we kissed some more, our tongues playing with each other.
"Under the covers?" Maxon asked. I nodded my head and we went under the sheets. When he was on top of me again, I looked at his eyes which were half-closed. Under the lid, I could see his actual eyes which were clouded with lust and desire. I shuddered at the intensity in his gaze. "Do you want to stop?"
His question knocked me out of study of him. "What?" I whispered. "No, I want to continue."
Maxon grinned and flipped his hair out of his eyes. "I was hoping you'd say that." He fell to the side of me on his back.
I leaned over him on my elbow. "This isn't continuing!" I complained.
Maxon laughed and rubbed his hands up and down my sides. "My arms got tired!" I laughed and couldn't stop. I kissed his nose while still giggling at his complaint.
"You know I love you." I told Maxon solemnly.
"Very, very much. And I you." I sat up on top of Maxon and put my knees on either side of his torso. I rubbed his biceps before moving lower and pulling down his pants. "That's unfair," Maxon said before pulling me down onto the bed. I giggled as he pulled down my PJ bottoms. "That wasn't underwear?" He asked when he saw the layer under it.
I laughed at his surprised face. "Those!" I almost screamed. "Hah! Those could be granny-pants!"
"What do you mean?" Maxon scrunched his eyebrows and looked down at my underwear. "How can a grand-ma wear pants that constantly slide up her butt?"
I blushed. "Maxon. Have you been staring at my butt?"
Maxon blushed to a deep red. "No... Maybe. I can stop if you want..."
I laughed. "Knock yourself out Maxon. Remember, I'm your wife..."
"Hmm. That's right," Maxon said. I didn't like the look in his eyes.
"Maxon--" I moaned. Maxon kissed a sensitive spot near my underwear line.
"You said so. Now I'm going to 'knock myself out'," he winked.
