Chapter-19
Amelia sat on the couch of her apartment thinking about every moment of the day with every sip she took from the hot mug in her hands. The freshly brewed coffee, with a little milk and sugar, helped her release her stress. What an eventful day had it been. The meeting she had been preparing for a week now, hitting the glass door, becoming a laughing material for the day, entertaining the lovely people, and guests, and above all meeting him again.
No matter how much she would like to deny it, small little things in her day would remind her of him, everyday since she had come back.
From the bonfire, to the fire which ignited within her when she kissed him, no feeling felt external. All of it had stayed with her, even on the days she didn't think of him.
It was already 8 and with no mood of making the dinner Amelia moved out of her apartment building, to go to the shop that was two blocks away, which served great taco's.
Parking the car in the lot, she moved inside Taco Bell's, and placed her order.
Having finished her extra saucy, extra spicy taco, she ordered an Ice cream, and moved out of the shop on to the street, with the extra taco's, she had asked them to pack.
As she took a spoon from her ice cream, she walked towards the homeless people on the streets. Handing them the packs, satisfied to give it to them, when they were hot, she moved across the street to go to the park. Standing on the little bridge above the park lake, she savored every bite of her chocolate ice cream with chocolate covered strawberries on top.
She had engaged such great investors in the publishing house, she deserved a treat.
Stepping inside the centrally heated building of her apartment, Amelia fetched the keys from her pocket, placing the car keys in place of them. But before she would place the key in the keyhole, she remember something. Stopping of a moment, she looked up to shrug off the feeling, and opened to door, only to find anxiety rise in her. The curiosity that she had never let rise in her, was on level ten at this moment, and not being able to fight it anymore, she moved towards the walk in closet.
There, in between the perfume bottles, was placed a little pouch, glittery pink in colour, which read, Unicorn.
It was something she had kept with herself since she was ten, keeping all the thing, that mattered to her, and she didn't wish to loss, inside it.
There was the little souvenir she had found after a month she had unpacked, back from the trip. She hadn't had the gut to open it then, neither did she wanted to now, but as it is said, curiosity killed the cat, she couldn't hold herself back.
Removing the brown, cover paper from the handful big gift, she couldn't believe her eyes.
In her freshly manicured peach nail painted hands, lay a glass bottle, with a wooden cock, filled with little capsule, of different colours.
How could she not imagine this?
All this time, these were what she was running away from?
She looked at it, unbelievably as she kept the pouch on the vanity table, along with the paper, moving out of the closet, sitting on the side of her bed, crossing her left leg on the soft matters.
Contemplating on whether she wanted to read one, or not, she kept the bottle in front of her, and watched it dip a little on the soft quilt.
Opening up one capsule she read what it said.
You and me, makes us.
Overwhelmed, she engulfed the message with the capsule in her hand as she rest her back on the back of the bed, thinking, relishing, every little moment she had kept somewhere locked in her mind, only till this day, this moment.
Everything came to her mind, from the first click, to the wine in the cabin, to the day she saw them kiss, in the dimly lit conference room.
Remembering that, she quickly rolled the piece of paper, which she read with so much admiration a few minutes ago, and placed it inside the capsule, closing the drawer after placing the glass bottle in the bedside.
What was she thinking?
Well she didn't know that, how can we?
I told you, love is confusing, very confusing.
But is she in love, or is it guilt and anger that she possesses for a friend she made on a trip.....
Walking in her cabin, she kept her attire a lot less formal today, considering the deal was done, investors were involved and the paper work was scheduled in the following week.
She placed her legs, on the table, which mind you she never did. But today she felt lethargic, probably due to the taco's last night. Junk makes you junk they say.
"Here is the script of the new book, from..." came Mrs. Fuller, bolting in thought the cabin door only to find Amelia, half way in taking her legs off the table, in such a rushed manner, which made the revolving leather chair stumble to balance, making Amelia land on the ground, on her right side, behind the desk. Of course.
What a wonderful day to start your day, through Amelia as she removed a strand of her now messed up hair, before placing her palms flat on the floor to get off the ground.
"Oh my God...Child, are you okay?" Mrs. Fuller asked, and in response got a thumbs up from a completely exhausted Amelia.
"You seem different today?" She pointed.
Amelia looked at her and smiled thinking she would complement her outfit.
"You seem lost," she stayed giving her judgy eyes.
"Huh? Lost?" Amelia asked.
"Hm, since yesterday, you...uhm... seem a little lost," she said.
Thinking about yesterday, she looked back at her.
"Maybe it's the anxiety, big meeting" she said, raising her hands up in the air waving it on the last two words.
"Are you sure, darling?" The lady asked.
"Absolutely"
"Okay then, let me get you a nice refreshing cup of coffee" she offered.
Amelia looked at her, before pulling the coat and the strap of her business handbag, and walking around the table.
"You know what, I'll go get it myself" she said as she took a breath of fresh air, and smiled.
"Yah, that was missing since yesterday" she said pointing at her.
"What?"
"The optimism in your smile," she said.
Walking towards Starbucks she checked her mails on phone, and finding none worth replying to, she kept the phone back in her pocket as she entered through the door.
Getting her order, she sat by the window, her eyes onto the street.
She stood from her table, to get herself another cup, but turning around the counter, she noticed a man already sitting on her table. Finding no other table near the window vacant, she didn't wish to give up today.
"Excuse me?" she said looking at the man, who had his face covered with a book.
"Yes?" Shawn said raising his head from the table
"Dude what are you doing here ?" Amelia said.
"Dude this is the only Starbucks around the corner, if you think I'm following you, that is" he explained.
"Yah right"
"Yah right," he repeated.
"Well is this the only table here then ?" she asked.
"Ahh.. uhm.. but the the only one vacant near the window." He smiled.
"What the hell?" she whispered to herself.
Shawn raised his left eyebrow listening to that.
"I was sitting here" she stated.
"Well I didn't see you 'sitting here' " he said.
"I was ordering" she said.
"Lia you can sit here, please make yourself comfortable," he said chuckling.
"Oh, I think you got me wrong there," she said.
"What?"
"I didn't ask for you permission" she said.
He raised both her eyebrows at her, waiting for a punch in his face, which mind you she was getting amazing at.
"Then?"
"I want you to sit somewhere else"
"Ahh" he exclaimed, looking at her, and smirking.
"Well that isn't gonna happen because I'm sitting and you are standing so, I got it first" he said.
Amelia narrowed his eyes at her.
"You are allowed to sit here though" he said, pointing at the seat opposite to him.
"I'd rather die" she said giving him an annoying smile.
Shawn had his eyes all wide listening to that, turning his head down to gather himself, he turned around to look in her direction, only to see no one there, turning around he saw her leave with the cup of coffee. He got hold of his things before rushing after her.
Catching up to her, he took one more step to step in front of her, blocking her way. And while he did that, he was pushed by a skate-boarder on to Amelia, making her spill the contents of the dark coffee on her turtle neck off white top.
Amelia stood there looking at the brown stain on all on her her chest now, feeling the mild warmth of the liquid on her skin through the clothes. While Shawn looked at the stain as well, he knew this was the end of her mood now.
"I am so sorry, Lia" he said looking at her now.
Amelia closed her eyes to get a hold on her anger now.
"Unbelievable" she said. "Thank you so much for letting me have a moment to myself"
"Seriously ? A moment to yourself, where did that come from" he asked, then he continued "You live alone you've got all moments to yourself, by the way."
"What wait a second how'd you know?" She asked.
"Know what?" He tried to dodge the question.
"That I live alone"
"Huhm lucky guess" he tried.
"See what I'm saying is, you need people to interact to, socialize to, people like me." he said.
"You know what, first you don't tell me what I need to do, and second..."
"Second?" he asked interrupting her, making her raise her head in his direction, as he bent his neck to meet her eyes.
"Stop it" she said in between Shawn's gibberish apology.
"Stop what?" he asked in confusion.
"Stop calling me Lia" she said and moved past him.
He flinched his eyebrows listening to that, and turned around to see her, after she had moved passed him.
She walked past him, and turned around while her hair flew on her hair, locking her eyes in his hazel and turning back around moving toward her block now.
And with that she slept that night on the white linen covered pillow below her head, and quilt covering her, rather shielding her, making her feel comforted and safe, as no one was around her to do so.
