Entry 53
Let's talk about steven and Greg's argument in Steven Universe Future.
I'll be honest. I didn't watch the full season but I did watch a couple of clips to get a clear picture to what I want to talk about since it's been living rent free in my head for some time.
So we know Greg hasn't had the best childhood and upbringing growing since he was a kid before he moved out to start his own thing because his parents were strict and controlling and made his home life feel like it was prison.
And it's because of that he wanted to give Steven the freedom he never had.
As I was watching the clip of their argument I couldn't help but feel annoyed by Greg throwing the "you're a gem" as if his own son ain't human 🤨 and Steven's life as a gem was far much better than his.
Like bro, your son has almost three years of PTSD because your wife decided book it and leave all the mess and bullshit for him to fix when she could have done it herself.
I get that Greg had a tough life and what he felt and experienced living with his parents is completely valid.
Steven main point in the argument is that Greg should have tried harder and gave Steven stability. Remember, Steven is half gem and half human. The crystal gems did their part to lay a foundation to accommodate for Steven's gem side but Greg didn't exactly lay much of a foundation to accommodate for Steven's human side.
I understand Greg didn't want to be like his parents when it came to Steven but he went about it the wrong way and it kinda made him negligent without even realising it.
He could have been more relaxed and laid back and being supportive but he should have given Steven some guidance on how to go about with the freedom he gave Steven because with freedom there has to be some level of maturity and responsibility.
Because I've seen a lot of people abuse their freedom and it fucked them over to the point of no return.
Yes, Greg wanted Steven to have freedom but that's not exactly what he needed. Steven has just come to the realisation that maybe things could have been different and better if he lived his life as a human rather than fighting a war his mother started and fix her mistakes. Greg should have stopped and listened. Not try to justify or tell him had a better life as a gem.
Steven feels like his parents failed him.
Doesn't this make Greg a bad parent? No, he did the best he could and did what he thought was right so I can't fault him for that. But he could have go about it differently.
That's my two cents. These are opinions. Not facts.
Man my literature student senses where off the charts 🤣
Anyways what are your thoughts about this?
