Entry 52
Let's talk about Day6 Jae's interview.
So in this interview, Jae talked about how the kpop industry brainwashes its idols and how Day6 is inauthentic. And obviously that set off a lot of people.
There was more that Jae talked about in the interview but the two topics I mentioned are what really caught my attention and I want to throw in my two cents.
Disclaimer: these are my opinions. Not facts.
I don't follow Day6 and I don't know anything about them. But I will admit that I found it odd that Jae said all those things. But at the same time, these are his opinions and people are kinda misinterpreting and twisting his words.
Let's start off with the inauthentic part. People may say that it was wrong and disrespectful that Jae threw his members under the bus like that but I have a counter argument.
It's not like he said: my members are a bunch of frauds and dicks yada yada yada.
It's more of the fact that the group is inauthentic in a way that they have to act and present themselves a certain way in order to appeal to the public and the kpop industry profits off of these personas that they give to these idols. Like how the industry profits off of the boyfriend vibe that most Male kpop idols are supposed to give to their fans.
Kpop idols don't exactly have the freedom to fully express themselves because there's no telling how the public will feel about it or receive it. Not to forget the idols and the industry give you what they want you see and know about them. So yeah, Jae is not entirely wrong about the inauthentic part or the brainwashing part.
And before ya'll start judging him, lemme ask ya'll this: what do you know about the kpop industry and its idols 🤨.
It's funny how people are judging Jae for expressing how he sees the industry and his experience in being in it.
And to the people saying that he was being disrespectful towards his members: what do you know about them aside from what they show you on tv and their interviews 🤨?
Nothing.
Jae is the one who's in and this industry. Jae is the one who got to experience and see what the industry is like. Jae is the one who sees, interacts and works with people who are in the same field and industry he's in. Heck, even former CLC member Sorn gave us her insight on being a kpop idol and it's pretty much the same thing.
So who are we to invalidate his opinions and experiences.
And I personally think it's a good thing that he being real about what it's like being in the industry because at least it confirms that it's not all rainbows and ice cream there. And we've already seen how dark and corrupt the industry is.
Being overworked and overwhelmed by schedules and promotions.
Hard and difficult dance choreography that may damage and stress their bodies.
Sasaengs and delulu fans violating and overstepping their boundaries.
Unnecessary hate and controversy from the fans and public.
Scandals.
High expectations and pressure of maintaining a clean image.
Being unable to date, marry and start families just because delulus fans and sasaengs hate the idea of them beings with other people who aren't them or whichever member or other kpop idol they ever so often ship them with.
Mental health issues.
The list goes on and on.
We need more people like Jae and Sorn to speak up about these things because this is a conversation we should ALL have.
We can still enjoy kpop. But it's also important to know and at least be aware that the industry is not what it seems.
