Lemme tell you the time when my first driver's instructor made me uncomfortable on the first day of driving school.

Story time 🙂🙃

So this was back in 2019. I had just finished high school. Took a gap year going up and down with university applications. Passed my oral test for driving and got my learners driver's license.

I had already met the guy. He was the one who managed to get me to book for the oral test. So it was relieving for me that he was my instructor (I'm not much of a talker especially around people I don't know).

Everything was going well during the lesson.

Well except at the random times he would touch my knee just so I can step on the breaks (I'm pretty sure learners cars have a special break for the instructors to use on the passenger seat).

And the times he would just touch my hand when I tried to change the gears.

And with the cherry on top: calling me sweetie throughout the whole thing 🙂

He even video recorded me while I was driving 🙂

And this man probably as old as my dad. 🙂

I don't like being touched by people I don't know without my consent and I certainly don't like old men calling me sweetie or any pet name. I get easily uncomfortable and disgusted by it and I'm very expressive about it.

Did you tell him that he was making you uncomfortable?

No. Because basically us African kids are taught to respect their elders and not talk back at them.

But I did tell my parents about it knowing that I was going to go through it with him again and I definitely didn't want that. And since my mom loves me, she confronted him and addressed the issue.

AND GUESS WHAT HE SAID.

"I say it in a lustful way. I just called her sweetie because she has a baby face"

Yes sir. I am well aware that I still look like a teenager despite the fact that I was 19 turning 20 at the time and I'm still look like a teenager even though I'm now 22. But that shouldn't justify your actions and lack of professionalism 🤚🏽.

I ended up going to a better driving school with a better instructor.
