Entry 39
So today marks the second year since my granddad passed away. So instead of being sad and moppy why not honour him with a funny story time.
So rewind to 2019 when I took a gap year, my granddad was living with us for a while since he was recovering from a serious asthma attack and of course I was given the responsibility to look after him: I was basically his nurse.
It was my job to make sure that he ate, took his meds, and attend to him when he needed anything.
So I remember one time I was fixing him something to eat in the afternoon and I went to call him but he was nowhere in to be found and I was confused. I went to check if my dad was around and he wasn't. So I assumed him and my dad went out together.
So up until my dad came back I asked him, "dad? Where's Sekuru (this means grandfather in Shona) did you out with him". When I tell you that I panicked when my dad said no, I freaking lost it.
I was about to make peace with the ancestors and prepared myself for the hell that was going to be unleashed upon me by my mother for not monitoring my patient, until my granddad came back home with a plastic bag full of sweet potatoes telling me he had gone to Mbare (a market place in Harare) by himself to buy them AND HE LOOKED INNOCENT. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
That had to be the funniest and most memorable moment I had with him and I just smile when I think about it.
Rest in peace Sekuru 🤍🕊. I wish you were here to seem graduate university and make you proud.
