So for many of ya'll who don't know I'm a university student studying media communication and culture (currently in my second year) and I feel like wanting to talk about age restrictions in media and from my personal experience.

So why are age restrictions put in place? The common answer would be: to preserve underaged kids innocence and keep them from copying shit they watch on tv since they are young and impressionable.

You would be right but that's not really the case. I personally think it's leaning more towards the psychological side of the spectrum.

I think it's because an underage doesn't have the mental capacity to understanding and relating to media and content with adult themes because their brains are still developing and don't have that level of maturity yet.

I can testify on this one.

So when I was about 12 - 13 years old I read a smut fanfiction on fanfiction.net. fast forward 10 - 11 years later I rereading and I started understanding most of what I was reading since I'm an adult now. It was more like a: HOW DID I MISS ALL OF THIS moment for me lmao.

And this took me back to that one time that troll harassed the author of silk sheets back in April just coz they were mad that Jungkook didn't get a happy ending COMPLETELY ignoring what he did to his friends throughout.

And I am not by any chance justifying or excusing them for sending r@pe threats and harassment. They were a pos for doing that. But I understand why the reacted the way they did since they're like 14 and still have a long way to go and a lot of growing up to do.
