In August of 2014, a new horror game was released. The game's title was Five Nights at Freddy's. Some of you may be wondering...what exactly is Five Nights at Freddy's, and why should I pay it any attention?

We'll start with the basic concept of the game (no major story spoilers, I promise). You are working as a night-shift security guard in a place called Freddy Fazbear's Pizza. Freddy Fazbear's Pizza is a place similar to Chuck E Cheese's, a place you may already know; it's a pizzeria with a few basic animatronic characters and arcade games. Working the night shift in a place like that couldn't possibly turn out to be scary...right? Well...while your job should be about watching out for robbers and the like, instead, you're forced to keep the animatronic characters out of your office. Yeah, you heard me right.

The animatronic characters wander around the pizzeria at night, otherwise, their servos (a type of powerful motor which, in this case, moves their joints) will lock up, and they won't be able to perform the next day.

What could possibly happen if the robots pass through my office? It's not like they could do me any harm. Well...sort of. You see, if they see you after hours, they won't recognize you as a human being...instead, they'll see you as an animatronic without a suit, and because that's against the rules, they will try to stuff you into an empty Freddy Fazbear suit. Because of all the sharp robotic parts in there...you die if you get stuffed into one. Your goal is to make it through 5 nights of being a security guard.

Alongside the tension that comes with being a night-shift security guard at Freddy's, there also happens to be some dark history. A mysterious man had murdered 5 children there and hid their bodies inside the suits of the animatronic characters. Because of this, the restless spirits of the murdered children possessed the animatronic characters, and are out for revenge...

There is far more to the game than this to explore. You can find the story while playing through the video game series, which consists of Five Nights at Freddy's 1-4, Sister Location, Pizzeria Simulator, Ultimate Custom Night, FNaF VR, and a spin-off game called FNaF World.

You can also find a bit of story in the book series Scott Cawthon, the creator of Five Nights at Freddy's, released starting in the summer of 2016. Their titles are Five Nights at Freddy's: The Silver Eyes, Five Nights at Freddy's: The Twisted Ones, and Five Nights at Freddy's: The Fourth Closet.

The fandom for the Five Nights at Freddy's universe has been very creative over the last 5 years the series has existed; fan content ranges from fanfictions, fan-made games (such as The Joy Of Creation and Five Nights at Candy's 1, 2, and 3), fan art, roleplays, and more.
