Chapter 4

Then there is was. His pulse. Slow, but still there. May closed her eyes, not sure wether to be happy or upset that he was still alive. But one thing stayed haunting her brain.

She had almost killed him.

Guilt, sympathy, terror, and remorse crashed over her as she realized what she had done. She had almost killed him.

Slipping off her jewelry as fast as she could as not to further hurt him, she put one hand on his chest over his heart, and the other on his neck, giving him more air.

She relaxed a little as his breathing evened out a little bit and his pulse quickened a tiny bit so it was now about as slow as a relaxed person's pulse.

She felt a few tears of her own dribble down her face as she gently brushed his tears off of his face. Even in his unconscious state, a few more left his eyes. May flinched.

What have I done?

She sent up a fire flare fro Solidad to find them.

He whimpered as she lightly picked up his hands to inspect for the damage she'd done.

They were heavily burned, and she suspected had she not come back into her right mind when she did, she might have destroyed some of the nerves in his hands, causing him to never be able to use them again.

When she looked at his face now, she did not feel the burning outrage that she had felt just minutes before. Now all she felt was compassion.

She lost control when she saw him. Her rage had consumed her into no less of a monster he was.

Her vision blurred with tears as she inspected the rest of his body for the wounds she had so mercilessly inflicted. He needed medical attention really soon, she knew. The only hope she had was that Solidad would feel the same sympathy she was and help him.

"May! Are you alri- oh, Arceus..." She gasped when she saw Drew's limp fame lying unmoving on the forest floor.

"Is he-"

May shook her head. "He needs help now, though."

Solidad kneeled beside May. "Let his head rest in your lap," she commanded. May did as she was told and Solidad placed one hand on his neck where May's sliver had burned him.

Taking in a long, slow breath and letting it out, Solidad's hand began to glow a light green. She held it there for a second before moving it down to his chest area. She continued doing this to all of the rest of the places eh had been hurt.

Slowly but surely, all of his wounds, burns, and bruises either healed or partly healed under Solidad's touch so all that was left was minor injuries, save for a few that would need to be treated by hand.

"He'll be alright," Solidad comforted softly. "Come on."

She gingerly picked him up and carried him to the ATV, although the whole process was semi-awkward due to his wings not being properly folded.

Solidad, still carrying an unconscious Drew, led May down a stairwell in a restricted area of the school. To May's surprise, it led to a small room of a couple cells.

"You're... Putting him in prison?" May asked before she could think. She clamped a hand over her mouth for sounding like she cared about a demon.

Solidad nodded sadly. "I don't want to, but there's no guaranty that he won't go crazy when he wakes up. It's to protect him."

"How would it protect him?" May questioned.

"It's covered with containing magic to keep him in there." She turned to May. "Think: if he wakes up and goes on a mini rampage and runs around the school, what do you think all of the students would do to him?" Solidad reasoned.

"They'd kill him without hesitation," May finished.

Solidad nodded. "Exactly. This place was built for situations like this," Solidad explained. "I designed this school, remember?"

She eyed the stone slab that was supposed to serve as the cell's bed before laying him on it and closing the cell door.

"I'm going to get something a little warmer and more comfortable for him," she explained as he was literally laying on stone. She looked May right in the eye. "For no reason should you ever leave. Tornado? This is probably the safest spot in the building. Fire? Stone doesn't burn. Do. Not. Leave. You hear me?"

May nodded and sat down on a stone bench. "I'm not standing up."

Solidad smiled. "Good."

True to her promise, May didn't move until Solidad returned around twenty minutes later with a long plush pad for him to lay on, a warm, fuzzy blanket, and a pillow.

"May, close and lock the door behind me," Solidad commanded.

"But-"

"If he wakes up, I know how to handle it so we're both safe," she assured.

May gave a sigh of relief as Solidad left the cell and locked the door. She still hated him, but...

For some reason it gave her comfort to know that he was alright.

Solidad sat beside her and pulled out a bucket full of strange things that Solidad had brought down with her.

"Hm?"

Solidad began to pull different herbs and such out of it. "It's some medicine for him. It'll help heal his deeper, worse injuries and keep them from getting infected."

May bit her lip. She was glad that Solidad was healing him, but why did the principle and founder for a school of High Priests and Priestesses show such kindness to a demon.

May tensed as footsteps pounded against the granite steps down to the feller area that served as a prison.

"MAYBELLE CAROLINE MAPLE, WHERE ON EARTH HAVE YOU BEEN THESE PAST FIVE HOURS!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?"

"Way to just barge into a restricted area of the school, you two. By the way, how did you find me?" May questioned her two best friends.

Misty held up her Nav which showed that she'd been using the 'find my Nav' app.

May sighed. "It's... A long story. Just don't freak out." She gestured to Drew cell. Dean gasped, hands over her mouth while Misty just stared, open-mouthed.

"Girls, come and sit down," Solidad instructed, finally speaking up.

She turned to May. "I want you to be entirely honest here. Do you know him?" Solidad asked.

May gasped. Was it that easy to tell?" I... Yes. He... When I was little, he had somehow disguised himself as a human, I didn't know he was a demon. He was my best friend," she confessed. "Then, he tricked me. As the demons were about to break in, he brought me out to a field, and..." She sighed. "He left me there to die."

Dawn nodded solemnly. "You've told us that story before."

May felt slightly guilty - she, yet again, didn't mention the pendant. She kept it tucked inside her shirt so it was invisible to everyone else, never telling anyone about it. She had kept it her secret for all those years.

"Hm. Things are starting to make sense." She opened her eyes. "I, too, knew him when he was little." She smiled fondly. "Although the last time I saw him, he was an adorable, bouncy five year old.

May blinked in surprise.

"May, tell me: right before he left you, did he give you a necklace?" Solidad inquired, putting the pieces together as Dawn and Misty watched in awe.

Hesitating only a moment, May showed them the pendant. "Solidad... I think it's cursed," she confided.

"Let me guess," Solidad concluded, smiling. "You can't remove it, and given the context that he put it on you, you came to believe that it carried negative magic."

May looked at her, surprised. "How... How did you know he put it on me?" She asked.

"Other wise you would be able to take it off," Solidad explained. "You see, the way it works it that it can only be removed by the one who put it on. He's the only one who can take it off."

May's eyes widened. "You... You know what the necklace does?"

Solidad nodded. "And... I know you think that he tricked you, betrayed you, and left you to die, but that's not the truth."

May turned her eyes to the still unconscious form that was Drew.

"He sacrificed his sanity to protect you."
