Ava's pov
My phone almost slides out of my hand but I manage to grip it hard.
"Ava?" I turned around and saw Brandon walking towards me on the sidewalk.
"Hey," I turned my phone off and slipped it in my back pocket.
"What are you doing out here?"
"Um, I was about to leave," I admitted.
"Are you okay?" He asked. I must have seemed distracted by my own thoughts because he stepped closer to me and looked at me. I nodded.
"I think I just need to leave, I've had enough partying," I manage a smile.
"What about you? Are you leaving?" I asked. He cooly put his hands in his pockets and swayed side to side. I think he was a little drunk.
"Yeah I was," he said.
"Ava?" My eyes widened. I totally forgot I left Shawn upstairs. I quickly ducked behind a bush. Brandon looked amused.
"What are you doing?" He laughed.
"Shawn is looking for me," I whispered. Brandon looked back towards the house.
"He's gone now." I slowly emerged from the bush and smiled sheepishly.
"Do you want a ride? My car is kind of far away but it's not that long of a walk." I offered.
"Sure." He grinned. I nodded and we started walking.
"So what was that all about? With Shawn?" He asked walking beside me.
"Oh, that. I sort of ditched him upstairs. I'm starting to think I didn't him through," I said realizing that Shawn was becoming attached to me. Brandon have me a look.
"It's kind of hard to explain," I said. He nodded.
"I shouldn't have even come tonight," he shook his head.
"Why not?" I asked. He looked at me. "Yes, you'd do piss off Pricilla but when is she never pissed off?" He laughed.
"I don't know how you put up with her."
"Sometimes I can't," I said honestly.
"I bet." He smiled.
"Sometimes she just doesn't understand. Like ever since my mom died she keeps thinking something so wrong with me." I shook my head. "Like I've changed, I guess I have but she will never understand."
When we get to my car Brandon gets in and I start the car. I pull away and Brandon rolls down the window.
"So, do you live alone?" This question caught me by surprise.
"I didn't, until my mom died, my dad never came home. I haven't seen him in 4 months." I said.
"So it's just you? In that empty house? Every night?" He turned to me. I looked at him and smiled.
"It's not that bad, I prefer to be alone anyway." I laughed to myself.
"What?" He asked.
"It's funny, I never would have said that 4 months ago," I kept my eyes on the road. Brandon was looking at me with curiosity.
When I pulled into my driveway I parked the car and turned it off. Brandon looked across me over to his driveway.
"Shit, my dads home, I have to go," he said taking his seatbelt off. We both got out of the car and he started running to his house.
"Thank you for the ride!" He whispered yelled to me. I held in my laugh and watched him make his way to his house. When I couldn't see him anymore I walked to my front door and walked inside. I felt dazed and I pinched myself just to make sure I wasn't making this up in my head. I laughed to myself and went upstairs.
Skip Weekend (cause I'm lazy)
On Monday morning I felt better since the first week of school way out of the way and I just had a very relaxing weekend. Pricilla didn't text me once this weekend and a part of me felt guilty for what I said at the party on Friday but the other part didn't care. She was being dramatic. The whole weekend I relaxed and went to some dance classes and of course did homework.
This morning I put on some jeans and a red cropped long sleeve and to top it off I wore a white bomber jacket. I left my hair down and did a little makeup.
I made myself a smoothie and an egg for breakfast. I was running a little late so I drank the rest of my smoothie on the way to school. I parked in my spot and rushed into school. Luckily I made it to class right before the bell rang.
"You were almost late," Pricilla said I sat down.
"But I wasn't," I said smiling. She smiled. I swear it was like she had forgotten all about Friday night. I brushed her off and started to pay attention to the teacher.
"Okay class, today I am going to assign your lab partners. They will be your partners for the rest of the year. So when I call your names just find a table in the back and wait for instructions." Pricilla groaned.
"Assigned partners? Seriously?" I really hope I don't get Pricilla.
"Pricilla and Anthony," Pricilla made a gagging noise and got up.
"Ava and Brandon," I turned and looked at Brandon who was already looking at me. I smiled and got up.
"Kind of ironic right?" He said as we walked to a table near Pricilla and Anthony and one of Brandon's other friend who was at the party. I laughed and sat down in one of the stools while Brandon leaned on the table.
"Alright, today we will be starting our projects, I will warn you, this project will be hard. We will finish the project in 3 weeks but there will be deadlines for each assignment. There are packets in the center of your table." I grabbed a packet and handed it to Brandon and then grabbed myself one. "Your first deadline is on Friday and waiting to the last minute will not cut it! This needs to be done as a partner effort so if I don't see two different sets of handwriting it's a zero! I'll be up here if you have any questions." I sighed and flipped through the packet.
"He's right, there a lot of stuff we have to do by Friday," I said examining the packet. I look up across the room and she Pricilla folding her arms as Anthony talks to her. Poor Anthony.
"He's knows he don't have a chance right?" I asked just as Brandon's other friend came over to our table.
"Trust me, I've told him twice," he said. Brandon laughed and I smiled.
"Ava this is Jack," Brandon said. I smiled.
"Hi," I said. He smiled back.
"This is going to be a long year," Jack said looking back at Anthony and Pricilla. Tell me about it. Jack leaves and Brandon goes to the back of the room to try and find some supplies. Pricilla walks over to my table and leans on it.
"Kill me now," she said.
"Oh come on, it's only for the rest of the school year," I said smiling.
"You'd suck, why couldn't I have gotten Brandon? Anthony is so annoying," she said picking at her nails.
"He likes you," I said.
"I don't care, I don't like him," she said resting her hands on the counter.
"Pricilla it will be fine, just relax," I said just as Brandon came back to the table.
"Yeah sure, I'll just relax," she rolled her eyes and walked away.
"Looks like she is pissed," Brandon said. I smile.
"When is she not?" I grabbed the graduated cylinder.
"Do you know what you're doing?" He asked me as I grabbed the hydrogen peroxide. I glare at him.
"Still don't believe I'm as smart as I claim to be?" I raised my eyebrows. He smiled and leaned on the table across from me. "You really don't know me at all."
"You know you keep saying that, maybe I should get to know you," he said looking at me. I set down the bottle of hydrogen peroxide and looked at him.
"Maybe you should," I said agreeing with him. I have to admit I was definitely flirting with him but he started it. Not my fault. He smirked and I turned my attention back to the experiment.
When the bell rang Pricilla left because Brandon and I had to clean up our mess. We both walked into the hallway together and I felt a few stares.
"So, we should probably figure out when we are going to work on this project because part of it is due on Friday," I said. He nodded.
"What about tonight? I can do tonight and Wednesday night. I have dance class tomorrow." He stopped.
"What, Ava Sinclair is an athlete?" He smiled. I rolled my eyes. "Since when do you dance?"
"Since always," I retort. "So tonight? 6?"
"Yeah, sounds good, I'll see you later," he said and we both walked away. I spotted Jesica leaning on her locker watching me.
"What was that?" She asked walking with me.
"What?" I asked.
"Brandon Meyers?" She asked.
"We got assigned as lab partners today," I said. She gave me a look.
"It seemed like you were more than lab partners, more like friends," she said. I rolled my eyes. Knowing that I clearly didn't want to talk about Brandon she changed the subject.
"Have you talked to Shawn?" She asked. I shook my head.
"Well I talked to him this morning and he wants to talk, something about Friday night, what happened?" I sighed.
"I don't know, nothing happened," I said.
"Well he thinks something did, be honest, do you really like him?" She asked.
"I've never liked Shawn Jes, he's just someone fun to hook up with, I picked him because I thought he wasn't the type of guy to get attached, but I guess I was wrong," I sighed still walking.
"You should talk to him," she said. I nodded.
"I will."
When I got to our lunch table Pricilla was ranting about Anthony. I mentally rolled my eyes as I sat down.
"It's terrible, right Ava?" She asked. I looked up and raised my eyebrow.
"Pricilla you are being way too dramatic over this, Anthony is nice, just give him a chance," I said.
"No way!" She said rolling her eyes yet again. I suddenly spot Shawn walking in the cafeteria. He spotted me and I stood up.
"I'll be back," I said walking towards Shawn.
"Hey," He said.
"Can we talk?" I said gesturing into the hallway. He nodded and followed me out of the cafeteria.
"Look, Shawn, I'm sorry about Friday night, I got a call from my dad and I haven't talked to him in a while and after I just didn't feel like having fun anymore so I went home," I said he nodded with sympathetic eyes.
"Shawn, I want you to know that this isn't what you think it is. I'm not going to be your girlfriend or whatever. Look what I'm trying to say is, can we just be friends?" He looked down.
"Yeah, friends," he nodded. I smiled and gave him a peck on the cheek.
"Thank you," I said walking away.
After school I end up practicing in my studio to pass some time before Brandon comes over. When I finished I took a quick shower and slipped on some leggings and a t shirt. Now the old me should have dressed up because a boy is coming to my house and I have to look cute. I just don't care anymore. What's the point? Just then the doorbell rang. I shut my bedroom doors and rushed downstairs. I opened the door to see Brandon standing there with his usually smirk resting on his lips.
"No music this time?" He smirked. I rolled my eyes.
"Shut up," I opened the door wide enough for him to walk through. He smiled and walked inside.
"It's weird, you're house looks just like mine on the inside," he said looking up at the tall ceilings. "Too bad mine has a pool," he grinned. I started walking to the kitchen.
"You have a pool? Since when?"
"Since always, how did I not know you danced, we've been neighbors for like ever," he said following me. Maybe it was because I was a bipolar bitch last year.
"Would you have even wanted to know me?" I asked walking into the kitchen. He gave me a weird look.
"You mean because you were the biggest bitch at school and now all of the sudden you've gone soft?" My mouth dropped open. "Why not?" He smiled.
"That's hilarious Brandon," I sneered.
"There it is," he said pointing at me. I rolled my eyes and grabbed a water for him and I.
"Let's just get started on our project," I said leading him to the living room. He smiled and nodded. I grabbed my backpack off the couch and sat down and got out all the papers and Brandon got out all the materials that he gathered.
"Where did you get all this stuff?" I picked up the beaker and graduated cylinder.
"My mom works at a hospital and they have a lab," he said taking outa few more things. Then he pulled out three condums. I picked one up and raised my eye brows.
"Really?" He shrugged.
"They could be useful," he said digging through his backpack. I gave him a look.
"Not for us, for the project!" He smiled. I set it down.
"Brandon this is a chemistry experiment, not a sex experiment," I said. He smiled again and set his bag down. For the next hour we worked on our project and experiment. We finally worked out the mechanics of the project and we got hungry. I ordered pizza and now we were working on the floor. I had my computer in front of me on the floor when the doorbell rang. I quickly got up and grabbed some money out of my wallet. I paid the pizza guy and put the pizza next to Brandon and I. I took a slice and so did he.
"Aren't you like on a diet or something?" He asked in between chewing.
"A diet? Really? You don't know me at all?" I said still eating.
"Fine then let's play 20 questions," he said leaning back against the couch.
"Ten, because we still have work to do," I said.
"Fine, I'll go first, when did you start dancing?"
"4 years old, my turn, what do you do?" I asked. He gave me a look.
"I mean, you're always with your friends and stuff, don't you play a sport or have a hobby?" I asked.
"I used to play football but I quit, I guess I like fixing cars. My dad has an old Mustang and I've been trying to get to work," he said. I nodded.
"What did you do this summer?" He asked.
"Well, my mom died, I practically forced myself out of bed everyday, I spent most of my anger and sadness by either dancing or hooking up with guys," I said honestly.
"Do you have any siblings?" I asked.
"A brother, he's 9," he said. "Have you ever has a threesome?"
"No, have you?" I asked disgusted.
"Yup, you're missing out," he smirked.
"Gross," I said.
"Are you' dating Shawn Davis?"
"Nope, Have you ever has a serious girlfriend?" I asked already knowing the answer.
"No," he said. I knew it.
"Guilty pleasure snack?" He asked.
"Chocolate, favorite movie?" I said back.
"Iron man, favorite food?"
"Pasta, favorite color?"
"Blue, do you get lonely in this house?" I stopped and looked at him.
"Sometimes," I said quietly.
"So your dad just left you here?" He asked. I nodded.
"That's pretty shitty," he said. "Is that a tattoo? He asked pointing to my ankle. I nodded. It said 'just be...'
"What does it mean?" He asked.
"I don't know, I got in Vegas, I guess it means I can be anyone I want to be, not just one thing." I sighed. "Do you have a tattoo?" He nodded and lifted up his shirt. Along his ribs was a bird. It was pretty and he has some nice abs. I notice a scar next to the tattoo and decide not to ask. He puts his shirt down and I look down at the pizza box. It's empty and I only had two slices.
"Geez, how do you eat that much?" I said standing up and grabbing the pizza box.
"I'm a guy," he said simply. "I guess we've asked all our questions." He said as I carried the box to the kitchen. When I come back he has already started working. I smiled and lay down on the carpet next to him.
