People have been predicting the end of the world since it began. They thought it would end in fire. A flood. Nuclear warfare and famine. Maybe even an alien invasion or a viral pandemic would have caused our downfall.

Except, we were so busy coming up with all of these fantastic what-ifs, that we couldn't keep our eyes on the horizon. We couldn't see what was actually happening right in front of us. All of that obsessive thinking of the end of the world, and we couldn't prevent it.

How pathetic.

And it all started with our greedy desire to drill into the depths of the ocean for oil.
