Vomiting ideas

her mouth is agape

stuck in redundant phrases

she has nothing to say

there are no words

that inhibit her mind

a sea of nothing-

speechless.

The hijab is very symbolic to me... just as a Muslim woman.

Now, it may be a symbol of oppression to some, but to me it's a symbol of modesty and of Islam. Yes, some people do get forced into wearing it, but that is not true for all of those who wear it. Just because I do doesn't mean I was forced into it by a male member of my... or someone else's family. I chose to wear it. I chose to cover my hair, and NOBODY had the power over that except for ME.

"Terrorist!" "Oppression!" "The Koran!" 

It's not hatred towards the person, but towards their religion.

The media shows them the wrong things. 

Burning stakes and be-headings. 

They think we come from the 1700s. 

And orange men shout their opinions

"don't let them in!" "they'll mess with our country!" 

And the people-

they become more afraid of us. 

How can I make them understand? 

We won't burn them to ashes 

we won't set off a bomb

but everywhere I go 

all I hear is

"Terrorist!" "Oppression!" "The Koran!"
