Chapter 5: A Lovely Night

(TADAAA! CHECK IT... This is gonna be embarrassing....)

I could feel my heart beeting out of my chest. What was wrong with me? Had I not learned my lesson?
"You ready?" Jefferson asked, preparing to play a shuffled version of the La La Land soundtrack.
"Actually, I think I should go..." I whispered, turning away. Jefferson grabbed my shoulder.
"Because my best friend hates you and I can't be seen with you because of that." I stated, hoping he would leave.
"Oh, yeah? That prick Alexander? He's such a looser. Stand with me, I'm better than he is." Thomas responded with I sly smirk. That's when I got upset.
"How dare you speak like that! He's one of the greatest people I've ever met you cocky, smart-ass son of a bitch!" I hollered. Thomas was still holding the button that would play the music and he held it up in the air.
"You know what?" Thomas smirked, waving it high above his head, "I could just drop this and blame you for it." I growled.
"You wouldn't dare!" I shouted, finally grabbing his collar and reaching for the button. One of my arms wrapped under his and around his back in a way of holding him still as I reached up to try and grab the button. In the midst all the arguing and fighting, Thomas accidentally ended up pushing the button. When the song began to play, we pushed away from each other. As the intro came in, I instantly recognized it as A Lovely Night. As the beginning faded out, I saw Thomas smirk widely.
        "Some other girl and guy
would love this swirling sky,
but there's only you and I,
and we've got~ no shot." Thomas sang, dancing around me. He had a rather nice voice, honestly.
        "This could never be
you're not the type for me." He continuedm, walking away from me.
        "Really?" I scoffed, playing along.
"And there's not a spark in sight. What a~ a waste of a lovely night." I rolled my eyes, walking over to him
"You say there's nothing here, well let's make something clear; I think I'll be the one to make that call." I sang, tapping him on the chest.
"What's your call?" He asked, smirking.
"And though you looked so cute in your polyester suite-"
        "It's wool."
"You're right. I'd never fall for you at all." I cooed, twirling around. Thomas began to whistle along to the music. As I turned, dancing a short ways away from me.
"And maybe this appeals~ to someone not in heels~ or to any girl who feels~ there's some chance at romance." I hugged myself and smiled bright.
        "But, I'm frankly feeling nothing-"
"Is that so?" Thomas asked, appearing from behind me, another cocky smirk on his lips.
"Or it could be less than nothing." I continued, rolling my eyes.
"Good to know, so you agree?"
        "That's right."
"What a waste of a lovely night~" We both sang at the same time, Thomas appearing in front of me. He put a hand around my waste and around the top section of my back. He dipped me, his lips turning up into a sly smile. I blushed lightly, rolling my eyes. We waltzed, we spun and danced around the entire stage. When the song finally ended we stopped dancing. We were sweaty from the dancing and breathing heavily as we stared at each other, back once more in the position of Jefferson dipping me. We heard clapping and cheers erupt from somewhere. We looked up to the room where the lights and sounds are controlled to see four people standing there. Thomas and I quickly released, and the four people came down. It was the drama teacher (Martha), the student body president (James), the principle (George) and the leader of the current play (Maria).
"That was amazing!" I heard the drama teacher, Martha, announce.
"Honestly, I've never seen such a heartfelt performance!" Principle George commented, clapping his hands together and dancing in excitement.
"You have to be in the play! I don't know what we'd do without you!" Maria exclaimed, hugging the two of us. We both looked away, slightly uncomfortable.

I finally got away from the drama group about two hours later. Jefferson had already agreed to be in the play, but I wasn't sure about it. I opened the door to my dorm to see everyone there. Aaron, Alex, John, Herc, Laf, Peggy, Eliza and Angelica. They all looked at me.
"We saw you leave with someone a few hours ago! Who was it!? Was he cute!? Was he nice!? Where'd you go!? Detaaaails!" Peggy exclaimed, her eyes gleaming with excitement and happiness.
"He was a total asshole! He was cocky, and he never stopped smirking. Some of the first things he said to me were insults, and the he threatened to ruin the play and blame me! And you won't believe what happened ne-" I was cut off by Angelica coming over.
"Wait... you were in the drama room?" She asked, looking at me and her confused brown eyes made me worried.
"Well... yeah. I mean... he took me there so we could dance away from everyone else. He was sweet at first." I explained, looking around the room to see everyone listening.
"Please, continue!" Eliza called. She was sitting next to Alex.
"Well, then when we were fighting over the button that would play the muisc, because he had threatened to break it, he accidentally pressed it and the soundtrack came on!" I heard gasps throughout my audience and stifled a giggle.
"He didn't seem to care and proceeded to dance around me, singing along to 'A Lovely Night'. I don't know why, maybe it was my everlasting hate for him, but I joined in. I mean, that song is literally about two people hating each other-"
"Until the end," John interrupted, "At the end they end up dancing together. And they almost kiss!" I shook my head, clearing away thoughts.
"Okay, we did dance. But it was like... angry dancing or whatever. The worst part, though? We were singing and acting along accordingly the entire time! And someone saw us!" I exclaimed throwing my hands up into the air. Everyone got a little bit closer, waiting for the big finish.
"Alrightt, so it's everyone who's working on the current play alright? Suddenly, they tell us we did brilliantly and beg us to be in the show. Thomas agreed right on sight, but I didn't feel like-" I was interrupted once again, but by Alex.
"Thomas? You mean Thomas Jefferson? That Thomas?" He asked, staring into my eyes.
"Yes. I can see why you don't like him. He's a complete idiot."
"So... are you doing the play?" Peggy asked, cocking her head to the side. I shook my head vigorously.
"Aww, please?" Eliza begged, moving over to her sisters who were now sat straight in front of me.
"Yeah. We need actually good leads! The ones we have now are complete crap! Now, this wouldn't be so bad, if future investors weren't basing anything on it!" Angelica wailed, moving her arms around dramatically.
"Wait, their opinions ride on this? A play?" I was rather confused, but I realised what was at stake if I didn't take the role I'd been thrust into.
        "Fine. I'll do it."
