Chapter 13: The History Assignment

I woke up early in the morning. Stretching, I stood up from my bed. I looked in the mirror and saw my same, boring face. I looked over next to me and saw a bunch of sweatshirts and sweatpants sitting on the bathroom counter. I grabbed one and, with Thomas in mind, I began ripping them up. The seams ripping left a feeling of happiness within me, a true feeling, a weight being lifted. I ran to my bed, pulling a large trunk out from under it. I grabbed a gray and blue striped sweater and a pair of black jeans. Smiling to myself, I put them on and rushed out the door. The halls were full and students were crowding them. I saw my friends and called out to them.
"(Y/n)? )Y/n)!" Herc shouted, rushing over. Everyone followed close behind.
"Well? What do you think?" I asked, twirling a little to show off the outfit.
"It looks great!" Alex announced, smiling wildly.
"Absolutely lovely!" Lafayette proclaimed, picking me up and spinning me around.
"Ahem..." Someone spoke out. I looked up to see Thomas standing there. He seemed angry about something.
"Thomas!" I exclaimed. Laf set me down rather suddenly, almost dropping me. Thomas rushed over, running his hands down my arms.
"(Y/n)?... What's all this?" Thomas asked, his voice a loving whisper. His cheeks were tinted pink and his face showed care and softness. I blushed lightly and looked to the side, trying to hide my face from him.
"Nothing, just... thought it was time for a changed..." I mumbled, meeting his eyes shyly.
"Um, guys?" Peggy interjected. Thomas and I stared at her for a moment before separating. We looked completely away from each other a I scratched the back of my head awkwardly and Thomas tried to act like nothing had happened. I stole a glance at Alexander who had his arms gross and a scowl across his face.
"Well, uhh... I'd better get to class!" I intruded suddenly, rushing off before anyone could say anything else.
"So, class... today we will be discussing the American Revolution and the revolt against Great Britain. Now, who can tell me who the King of Britain was at that time?" George Washington asked, staring out across the classroom. Alexander straightened up in his seat, raising his hand. Being the only one who knew the answer, he raised his hand.
"Jonathan Groff." Alexander announced, and on his hips.
"Very good, Hamilton. Seems that someone has a leg up on this next project." Washington said, turning around to face his whiteboard.
"Class, this next project will be worth 50% of your grade. It will be performed on the drama room stage. You can have as many people help with the project as you want, even those of whom are not in this class. You will have a month to work on it, so it had better be good. If your presentation is going to last longer than the set time given on your criteria sheets, please let me know immediately so we can find out who needs to go first." He turned around, "Find your groups now." Suddenly, people were rushing around the room. I felt a firm grasp on my wrist. Looking up, I found Thomas standing there, looking down on me with a smug grin. Then, I felt a hand on my elbow. Alexander glared at Thomas across from me. I managed to wrench myself out of their grasps, leading them toward Herc, Laf and John.
"Guys, why don't we all do the project together! Alex, didn't you already have an idea for all of this?" I asked, looking up at him. He was helpless against the timid look I gave him. It was not long after Alex. agreed that Professor Washington declared that class was dismissed. I led my friends off, we had to stop at a few places, first. I needed to grab some other friends and acquaintances.
        "Aaron Burr, sir!"
        "Miss Maria Reynolds!"
        "The Schuyler Sisters!"
        "John Adams!"
        "James Madison!"
        "The Schuyler sisters!"
        "Phillip!"
        "Professor Washington!"
        "Samuel Seabury!"
        "George Eaker!"
        "Principle George!"
After gathering them all, I took them to the drama room
"Alright, Hamilton, tell them about your play!" I exclaimed, looking around at everyone. After Alex's long explanation, everyone already seemed excited.
"Wait; so you're saying that Daveed Diggs posed as two different people? I wanna be Revolutionary Daveed!" Lafayette announced, grabbing the script that Hamilton always had on him.
"Oh, yeah. That's perfect, 'cause I wanna be Secretary of State Jefferson!" Thomas said, grabbing his own script.
"Oh, I wanna be Miranda's son! It's really funny to me that Miranda's secret boyfriend's name was the same as his son's! He must have named his son after him." Phillip proclaimed, grabbing his script. John quietly grabbed the script for Miranda's Boyfriend Anthony, then slunk back into the crowd.
"Ooh! I wanna be First Act Jasmine Cephas Jones! She's a lot like me!" Exclaimed said, grabbing her script.
"Oh! I guess I'll be Second Act Jasmine Cephas Jones... sounds fun." Maria mumbled, grabbing her script. Everyone grabbed their scripts. Professor Washington didn't want to at first, but he eventually gave in. Then, there was the moment of truth. Alex promised not to choose until there was only one script left. I knew who he originally wanted to be, but I also knew who would suit him best.
        "I choose... Leslie Odom Jr. He fits my personality nicely." Aaron finally decided, grabbing the script from the table. Alex, knowing the only script left was Lin-Manuel Miranda, stood hovering over it. Then, with one finally breath he shouted with vigor;
"I am not throwing away my shot!" He snatched the paper from the desk and held it close to himself.
"Wait, what about (Y/n)?" John asked, looking over to me. I simply smiled and went to grab some other people. This time around I wasn't going to be in the spotlight, I needed others... to be background dancers with me.
