Chapter 8
At 6:00 sharp Chase was knocking on Leigh's door. She was right his brother really had nothing to eat in his kitchen, so he was thankful Leigh had invited him over even more. He would have to make a trip to the store to stock up on supplies. He did find a bottle of wine in the fridge, so he had grabbed it on the way out the door.
Leigh opened the door, and her heart fluttered. She was really going to have to get used to being around Chase, and not seeing Christopher. "Hey," she says, "I'm so glad you could make it." She motions for him to come on in, and to take a seat at the table. She already had everything set up, lasagna, garlic bread, and salad.
"It smells delicious," Chase says suddenly realizing just how hungry he was. She came back to the table handing him a corkscrew for the wine. As he filled their wine glasses, she fixed their plates, giving Chase a big helping of lasagna.
As soon as he took a bite, he thought it was the best thing he had ever tasted.
"This is amazing Leigh."
"Thanks. It's one of my favorite things to cook, but it's too much for one person to eat so I am glad I have someone here to share it with."
"Well if you have any other recipes that you would like to try out in the future just call me, I'm your guy."
"I will keep that in mind," Leigh says smiling.
"I eat a lot of take out in New York, being a single guy and all," Chase says. "This is great to eat a home-cooked meal with a beautiful woman."
"Thanks I really do love to cook, so we will definitely do this again sometime."
That's exactly what Chase wanted to hear.
"By the way did you get any rest?"
"A little, but I tossed and turned for a while. I guess I will have to get used to Christopher's bed. Plus, it doesn't help thinking about what has gone on in or who had been in that bed with Christopher."
At that thought, Leigh got a disgusted look on her face, and said "Well I can't help you there so you'll have to ask your brother about that one."
Good to know, Chase thought. At least now he has a better chance of getting a good night's sleep tonight.
"Sorry I didn't mean to embarrass you by bringing up you and Christopher being intimate," Chase said.
"Nothing has happened to be embarrassed about trust me," she says.
"You are joking right," Chase says. "Are you saying that you and Christopher have never..."
"Look not that it is any of your business, but no we haven't. Yeah, we have made out and come close many times, but we have never had sex. We were just friends for a while and had only recently started to take things to the next level. Now he's gone."
"He's not gone forever. You could go visit him anytime you want," Chase says.
"Probably not gonna happen with my work schedule, but whatever. Can we please talk about something other than Christopher?" Leigh says.
"Gladly, Chase says so what do you want to talk about?"
"You of course," she says.
He smiles and says, "Alright that's my favorite subject."
She laughs, and says "Figures."
"So what do you want to know?" he says.
"Well let's see, I thought you said you didn't want to come back to Atlanta to work."
"Well my play wrapped up, and after a few auditions with no callbacks, my agent called and said they wanted me to do this film."
"I didn't know at first that it was being filmed here, but I decided what the heck I would try it. Someone once told me that the film and television industries are booming right now in Atlanta," Chase says winking at Leigh. "Plus, my agent insists that it will bring me good exposure."
"The only problem was going to be what to do about my apartment. So when Christopher called that problem was solved."
Leigh got a sad look on her face, but continued with her next question. "I've heard a little bit about the movie at work the other day, so what is your part in it?"
"Unfortunately, it's not the lead. I'm just one of the buddies that help the main character pull off a bank heist. I can't complain though it's my first feature film. I will still get a lot of camera time, so it's all good. I plan to steal the spotlight whenever I can," Chase says smirking.
"Oh if anyone can pull that off, I know you can," Leigh says laughing. "What do you like most about acting, and if you say getting to make out with hot babes on set I'm going to smack you?"
"Well there is that," Chase says laughing. "I guess just the fact that I can be all kinds of people as an actor, not stuck in an office at my father's company."
"Growing up, everything in our lives was planned out for Christopher and I. We were both active in sports in high school and were expected to get good grades. Failing at anything was unacceptable."
"We both went to college and got our business degrees. We were expected to take over our father's company when the time came for him to retire. We tried, but I think after all of these years of doing everything he said we both had just had enough."
"When we told him we wanted to do our own thing he didn't like it. He said we were on our own for sure if we left the company. We both have been ever since. That is exactly why even though I had not planned on coming back here to work, I eventually accepted the role. I go where I will get paid."
"I understand that," Leigh says. "It's the reason I am here now. I get what you're saying about acting too. I know I am behind the scenes during the projects we film, but I really enjoy the whole process. Seeing everything from the beginning of filming, to finally getting to see the finished project when it is done is really rewarding. As you know it's a lot of hard work, but it can be a lot of fun too."
"So tell me more about your life in New York. Is it all you thought it was going to be when you moved there?"
"Well, yeah I mean until now I have had a job so there were no worries. I've also done a few commercials and some small TV roles while I have been there for extra cash."
"There is one other thing that I have done for some extra money, but you have to promise that you won't tell Christopher about it when you talk to him."
All sorts of bad things start going thru Leigh's mind, it must show on her face.
"Get your mind out the gutter girl," Chase says. They both laugh.
"I have done some print ads as well to earn money. Actually, it's pretty good money, but just not something I would want to do full time. So you can not tell Christopher, because he will be after me to do the whole twin modeling thing again and that ain't happening."
Leigh giggles and says, "Yeah but you two could do one of those hot guy calendars. The ladies would love seeing the twin Camden boys in all their glory."
"Hey that's not a bad idea," Chase says. "I promise I will give you the first copy, and I will even autograph it for you."
"Would you really, like that would be totally awesome," Leigh says as she bouncing up and down fanning herself pretending to be an overexcited fan.
"Calm down fangirl," Chase says laughing.
"Anyway as you can imagine it is expensive to live in New York. My place isn't very big, but it's plenty for me. I don't go out clubbing and partying all the time. I mean I go hang out with my buddies from time to time, but it is not this big glamorous life. Life there is really similar to life here. You go to work to make money, and you come home and pay the bills."
"There's just a lot more opportunities available to you there."
"Oh I'll bet you have lots of "opportunities" available to you there," Leigh says.
"What? Are you jealous, dang Leigh we just started dating and you are already jealous," Chase says with a devilish grin.
Leigh smacks him on the shoulder, and says "Shut up we are not dating. It's just....."
"Just what?" Chase says.
"Well now Christopher is there, and those same "opportunities" are going to be available to him. He's going to have all of these beautiful models throwing themselves at him, and he will forget all about me."
"First of all Christopher is not like that, and you know it. Secondly, you are a gorgeous woman and Christopher is lucky to have you in his life. If my brother does give in to one of those girls then he is an idiot. I will personally kick his ass if he ever hurts you."
"Well that will not be necessary, but thanks for the gesture," Leigh says. "So out of all of your "opportunities" you have never found a girl that you thought you could settle down with."
"Hell no," Chase replies immediately. "I'm not looking for a relationship right now, just a little fun now and then."
"What? Don't look at me like that with those judgy little eyes, even though they are really pretty. I just don't have a lot to offer someone right now. I have a small one-bedroom apartment, not a lot of money saved up, and I'm still trying to get my career going."
"Not all women care about how much money you have Chase," Leigh says.
"Trust me a lot of them in New York do."
"Well, maybe it will do you some good to be away from there for a little while, and be back home."
"Actually I was thinking the same thing."
"I was kind of seeing this one girl off and on for the past couple of months. Her name is Sidney. She wants something more, and I don't. So I thought coming here for a couple of months to do this movie would give us a break, and maybe she could find someone new while I was gone."
"So is that how you explained it to her when you told her you were leaving? I'm thinking she probably didn't take that so well," Leigh says.
"Actually, I didn't tell her I was leaving. The plans were all so last minute and rushed, that I didn't get the chance to call her."
"Plus, she is not my girlfriend so it's not like I have to clear my schedule with her anyway."
"So you're just not going to call her and tell her anything?" Leigh asks.
"I don't know. Maybe," Chase says.
Leigh looks at Chase like she's pissed.
