Chapter 4

The next day at the wedding reception Chase tried to keep his distance from Leigh. He stayed pretty busy greeting wedding guests and participating in all of the traditional wedding fan fair for his sister.

Finally, he just had to step outside for some fresh air and a beer. Grabbing a beer he heads out to the balcony. As he takes a long pull from his beer he looks out at the Atlanta skyline.

He forgot how pretty it was here at night. Of course, there's nothing like Times Square, but sometimes there's also no place like home. Someone else comes out onto the balcony, and he hears a voice that he now knows so well.

"If I didn't know better, I would think you are trying to avoid me tonight," Leigh says.

He turns around, and there she is dressed in a fitted black dress that hugs all of her curves. The heels that she has on make her legs look even sexier than he remembered from last night.

He had been avoiding her, but that didn't keep him from watching her all night in that dress and those heels.

"Hello, gorgeous. I've just been busy doing my brotherly duties on my sister's big day. Plus I'm sure my brother wouldn't like it if I tried to steal the prettiest girl in the room away from him again."

"I don't know about that," Leigh says "But thank you for the compliment."

"What trouble in paradise already," Chase says.

"Like we said last night we're just friends. We do enjoy spending time together, but we aren't in a relationship. I don't think Christopher wants that. I'm not going to push him into anything he doesn't want."

Thinking about what Christopher had told him yesterday, Chase nods. Maybe Christopher is not as into Leigh as Chase had originally thought.

"Anyway, sorry to ruin the mood by talking about all of this serious stuff," Leigh says.

"I just wanted you to know that you don't have to avoid me to keep from making Christopher mad. I enjoy talking to you. I would hate to think if you ever do come back to Atlanta to visit, that we couldn't spend time around each other because of Christopher."

He would love to spend more time with her and get to know her better. However, he will have to leave the reception soon to get to the airport. He had already booked his flight home tonight.

"I really have enjoyed meeting this weekend Leigh," Chase says. "I wish we could spend more time getting to know each other, but unfortunately I am going home tonight."

"I am so glad that Christopher asked me to come to the wedding this weekend to meet all of you. It's great to meet some new people outside of work. We work a lot of crazy hours on set as you know, so sometimes it's hard to get out and meet new people. I am totally serious though if you are ever back in Atlanta please come by for a visit. We can at least go get some coffee. I promise I will try not to spill it all over you."

Chase couldn't help but smile at her heartfelt words. At that moment all he could think was Christopher is a fool if he lets Leigh slip through his fingers. If she lived in New York he wouldn't hesitate to ask her out on a date.

"I promise that if I am ever back in Atlanta, I will definitely come by and knock on your door for a visit. We will go get that cup of coffee for sure."

"What no breakfast," Leigh says with a smile on her face.

"I'd love to have breakfast with you Leigh, but I generally like to have breakfast in bed when I'm with a beautiful woman."

Before Leigh could respond Christopher walks out onto the balcony looking for Leigh. "There you are," Christopher says. "I've been looking all over for you."

"Glad you are so concerned about me big brother, but as you can see I am perfectly alright."

"Very funny Chase, you know I was talking to Leigh. Anyway, the party is winding down. I thought we might head home if that's ok with you Leigh."

Leigh laughs and says, "Sure I'm ready to go if you are."

They all go back inside to say their goodbyes.

"Do you need a ride to the airport?" Christopher asks Chase.

"No thanks, I will just call a cab. I have to run upstairs to my room to change and get my bags. You two go on home, and don't worry about me."

"I wish you could stay longer," Christopher says. "We never get to see each other anymore."

"I know man, but I have to get back for rehearsals."

They all say their goodbyes to everyone.  Their mom tries to talk Chase into staying longer, but she understands he has to go.

Just as Chase is about to walk out of the room he has to take one last look across the room at Leigh. It may be the last time he ever sees her, so he can't help but watch her one last time.

She looks up at him right at the time he says the words, "Goodbye gorgeous" and walks out of the room.

Chase arrives home tired and ready to go to bed. He knows he probably won't get much sleep tonight though. He tried to sleep on the plane, but every time he would almost get to sleep he would think of Leigh.

As he gets to his apartment door he remembers Sidney has his keys. "Shit," Chase says frustrated. Now he can't get into his apartment. He can't call her this late, and ask her to bring them over either.

Probably not a good idea to go over there this late, but he has to get his keys so he can get in his apartment. She will ask him to just stay there with her when he gets there.

Chase had been trying to break it off with her so that is not going to happen. What a mess. He knew he shouldn't have asked her to look after his place while he was gone. Now he has to go over there in the middle of the night to get his keys.

Chase decides to call Sidney on the way to her apartment to make sure she was home, and alone.

She was surprised that he was home so early. Maybe he missed her after all.

When he gets there she invites him in. "Why did you come home so soon? Did something go wrong at the wedding?" Sidney asks.

"Everything went fine. It was great getting to see my family after so long. I just had to get out of there and get back to New York," he replies.

"Well since it's so late you're welcome to stay here tonight," she offers seductively.

"Thanks, but I'm really tired. I need to go home and crash. Plus I have to spend the day tomorrow unpacking, and then go to rehearsals."

Once again she covers up her hurt expression with a smile, and hands him his keys.

Taking the keys Chase says, "Thanks again for checking on my place for me while I was gone."

"Maybe we can get together for dinner this week so I can repay you for doing this for me," Chase offers.

"I would like that, but it's not necessary. I was glad to help out," she says walking him to the door.

"Okay I will give you a call later this week to make those dinner plans," Chase says walking out the door.

"Sounds great," Sidney says closing the door behind him.

"One day I will come up with a way to get Chase to love me and stay with me forever," she says as she gets back into bed.
